El cantante, teclista y compositor sueco de AOR/Melodic Rock, Thomas Lassar, lanzó su álbum debut 'From Now On' el 14 de abril a través de Art of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music Group. Excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con Thomas Lassar sobre su debut discográfico.
MiM: Thomas, a pesar de ser este tu álbum debut, eres un músico muy conocido por tu trabajo en la banda Crystal Blue, una de las bandas más queridas y de culto en Suecia. ¿Qué recuerdos tienes de esos años con Crystal Blue? ¿Cómo surgió la idea de este proyecto en solitario?
TL: Tengo en su mayoría buenos recuerdos de esos años. He estado pensando en lanzar un álbum en solitario durante muchos años, pero realmente nunca tuve tiempo para sentarme y escribir canciones porque también trabajo como músico de sesión. Pero cuando la pandemia golpeó al mundo y todo estaba bloqueado, finalmente encontré el momento para comenzar a escribir de nuevo.
MiM: "From Now On" (Art of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music, 2023) es un excelente álbum!! Alto vuelo compositivo de la música. Un regalo para todos los amantes del género. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción? ¿Quién estuvo a cargo de la producción y en qué estudio de grabación se llevó a cabo?
TL: Gracias… El proceso de grabación tomó un tiempo, no grabamos a la antigua con toda una banda junta en el estudio. Hicimos cada instrumento por separado y cada músico tocó su parte en mis demos. Yo y mi viejo amigo Fredrik Akermo, quien también tocó la batería en el último álbum de Crystal Blue, "Detour". El disco está grabado en mi propio estudio en Orebro, Suecia.
MiM: "From Now On" es un álbum sólido, te transporta a los años dorados de AOR y me recuerda a bandas como Journey y la voz de Thomas inevitablemente me recuerda al gran Steve Perry. Me gustaría saber si desde un principio ya tenía muy claro el sonido que tendría este disco.
TL: Tenía algunas ideas sobre el sonido del disco en una etapa temprana. Pero a medida que avanzaba la grabación, se convirtió en un sonido algo más moderno del que estoy muy contento.
MiM: Thomas, sin duda tienes una de las voces más melódicas y limpias del panorama AOR internacional. ¿Tienes una formación académica o es empírica?
TL: Soy un cantante autodidacta.
MiM: En este disco tiene a Rob Marcello (Danger Danger) como invitado especial en tres canciones. ¿Cómo surgió la idea? Cuéntame sobre la experiencia de trabajar con Rob.
TL: Conozco a Rob desde hace muchos años y fue una decisión bastante fácil preguntarle a Rob si quería tocar en algunas pistas del álbum. Siempre es un placer trabajar con él.
MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum?
TL: Tengo dos chicos geniales en Burning Minds Group, Stefano y Pierpaolo, que me ayudan mucho. Por el momento, el único concierto que está reservado es la fiesta de lanzamiento en mi ciudad natal, Orebro, Suecia.

Swedish AOR/Melodic Rock singer, keyboardist and songwriter Thomas Lassar released his debut album "From Now On" on April 14 via Art of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music Group. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to Thomas Lassar about his recording debut.
MiM: Thomas, despite this being your debut album, you are a musician well known for your work in the band Crystal Blue, one of the most beloved and cult bands in Sweden. What memories do you have of those years with Crystal Blue? How did the idea of this solo project come about?
TL: I have mostly good memories from those years. I´ve been thinking of releasing a solo album for many years, but I really never had the time to sit down and write songs because I also work as a session musician. But when the pandemic hit the world and everything was in lockdown I finally found the time to start writing again.
MiM: From Now On (Art of Melody Music/Burning Minds Music, 2023) is an excellent album!! High compositional flight of music. A gift for all fans of the genre. How was the recording and production process? Who was in charge of the production and in which recording studio did it take place?
TL: Thanks… The recording process took a while, we didn´t record the old fashion way with a whole band together in the studio. We made each instrument separately and every musician played their part to my demos. And my long-time friend Fredrik Akermo who also played drums on the last Crystal Blue album “Detour”. The record is recorded in my own studio in Orebro, Sweden.
MiM: "From Now On" is a solid album, it takes you back to the golden years of the AOR and reminds me of bands like Journey and Thomas' voice inevitably reminds me of the great Steve Perry. I would like to know if from the beginning I was already very clear about the sound that this record would have.
TL: I had some ideas about the sound for the record at an early stage. But as the recording progressed it developed to a somewhat more modern sound that I’m quite happy about.
TL: I am a self-taught singer.
MiM: On this album he has Rob Marcello (Danger Danger) as a special guest on three songs. How did the idea come about? Tell me about the experience of working with Rob?
TL: I´ve known Rob for many years and it was quite an easy decision to ask Rob if he wanted to play on some tracks on the album. It´s always a pleasure to work with him.
MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album?
TL: I´ve got two great guys on Burning Minds Group, Stefano and Pierpaolo, who help me a lot. For the moment the only concert that is booked is the release party in my home town Orebro, Sweden.
