houston

houston

Hank Erix  - ¡Por supuesto!

English version

MiM - Hello friends! In three months Houston will be playing in Spain, only one night in Madrid. We would like to interview you about this concert and the release of Relaunch II. Why is going to be one night only?

Hank Erix - We really wanted to do more gigs but we also want to make sure we fill the venue, and if that goes well we will plan a tour as soon as possible.

MiM -The band will be here in Madrid presenting Relaunch II. ¿How many songs from this CD will be in your set list?

Hank Erix  - We have had requests to focus on Houston self titled and Houston II so that’s what we’ll do, but we have a long set planned for you guys so we will probably play about 4 tracks from Relaunch II.

MiM - In your concerts, do you prefer to include more covers or original songs?

Hank Erix - Of course we’re focusing on our own material at live shows but we do squeeze in a few of our more popular covers like Runaway and Carrie.

houston

MiM - This CD is the following to Relaunch, Why did you decided to record a second Relaunch?

Hank Erix - The first one became so popular so we just had to make a second one! We decided shortly after the release of Relaunch that we will make another after Houston II!

MiM - I´m sure the songs included in this recording are part of your personal soundtrack. “Love is blind” was originally recording in “Head First” by Uriah Heep. Why did you choose it?

Hank Erix  - Actually it’s John O’Banion who did the first recording (I think) and it’s a perfect rock/westcoast tune that fits well in to Houston classic sound and vision!   (an editor´s note - Neither her nor me. Was written by Joey Carbone. John O'Banion recorded it in 1981 and Uriah Heep in 1983)

MiM - “Souls” is a very sentimental song. What kind of memories brings you a song like that? Why did you choose it?

Hank Erix - I’ve always been a fan of Rick Springfield, he has been a big influence on us while writing our own material so it was only natural to record one of his best songs to show you where we come from!

houston

MiM - Some of the songs are not originally AOR songs, like the Lady Gaga version or the country Cruise” originally written by Florida Georgia Line. But these songs are really different when Houston plays it. How is the process of songs selection?

Hank Erix - We wanted this album to be a cross-over album to something new, since our original main songwriters Freddie and Ricky is not with us anymore, we have to evolve and prepare our audience for a more modern touch. It’s just ridiculous trying to make the same albums over and over again without the old songwriter members. We are going towards more of a Heavy Pop sound than AOR since it’s more natural for the new band and it also gives us a chance to widen our fan base.

MiM - “Do What You Want” is specially transformed in an adult oriented song. I like the special treatment you did to this song. Lizette Von Panajott did a good job. How did you find and invite her to the recording sessions?

Hank Erix - She’s a friend from Stockholm and we thought, where can we find a talented as crazy female singer as lady gaga but with more of a rock touch? We all thought of Lizette. Check her band “Lizette &” out and you’ll understand!

MiM - There are four original songs. “Don´t Look Back” is really amazing and I hope the band will play it alive. The song title is the same that a Boston song you must remember very well. Was only a coincidence?

Hank Erix - Of course we will play it live, it’s a killer tune! I think that it’s a coincidence since the bands guitarist Calle who wrote the song doesn’t listen to Boston, but Ricky may have forseen that haha.

houston

MiM - But the cover of the CD remembers us some Boston front covers. What are the connections between Boston the band and Houston? Even now I can see that both Boston and Houston are American cities. Are there more coincidences?

Hank Erix - We wanted to make our band so authentic as possible. We are not much for the new modern AOR sound that everybody’s doing; it’s all guitars and no keyboard. Boston might not influence us that much musically but we’re very inspired of their style.

MiM - “Our Love” is another song originally written by Houston. This remembers me a band like Survivor. Astonishing song! Who wrote it? Are you thinking in a nearly future to record only original songs written by the band?

Hank Erix - Thank you! Our love was written by Ricky & Mats Rubarth from Casablanca. Since we were recruiting a new band when we released the single it came natural to invite some of the friends we’ve met under the years of touring. Next in the pipeline we are planning a new album with just original songs, a lot has happened in the Houston line up during our journey but now we feel that we need a new album to show the new direction of Houston with a new band and brand new songs.

MiM - Have you good memories from your first visit to Spain? What did you like most? Is there some funny story about this visit?

Hank Erix - I actually met Pepe from Reckless love there and that was the beginning of the collaboration on “Our love”. We had a great time and we love the Spanish audience but I’m afraid we couldn’t party that much since we lived so far away from the venue! I hope that will change this time.

MiM - Is there something more you would like to tell your Spanish fans?

Hank Erix - You are so important to us and I hope you stay with us and support us all the way and we will try not to disappoint you with future releases and live shows. Come down to Madrid with us, bring your friends and your party mood and we will have one hell of a time! Make sure to check out our new music video for “Standing on the moon” single-edit! Take care, love you all!

We hope to see you here in Madrid in May. Long Live Houston man, the band is really unique.
