Nightrage2015

¿Qué te parecieron las bandas locales Rise To Fall y The Descent?

Keep it metal.

ENGLISH VERSION

The European Tour. How’s it going?

Hey man thanks for the chance to talk to your website, Euro mini tour went really nice and smooth so far we played some shows in Sweden, and then Italy and Spain with our good buddies from Methedras and Bloodhunter, was an awesome experience for us to be able to get back in these territories and play the new songs for all our fans. On the other hand we also got some unlucky because 2 Euro back to back tours, have been cancelled. The Balkans and the Ektomorf tours because of reasons that they were out of our hands, since we really wanted to play on those tours. But we are looking at the future with hope and it will be bright anyways, no let downs can hold us back, we truly love this band and we are working on more shows and tours right now.

Tell us about your experience in the concerts in Spain?

It was really nice we love to play in Spain and we have played there some years ago and for us it felt that we haven’t lost the great connection with our fans, we played great shows and we met really nice people that loving the band and they were also expecting to see us playing live. We were lucky enough to tour with this amazing band from Italy, Methedras, that we became really close friends, during the tour, and we feel that we are on the same page as friends doing an awesome band package, and also the mighty Bloodhunter, really cool guys and band. Spain is a beautiful country with very nice people, which are into the music a lot, they are really passionate, and that for us it’s our reward doing these shows and exchange some metal amazing feelings.

I could see you in Bilbao at the Xmas In Hell, where I met you before you jumped onstage. We felt a good relationship between the bands involved on Tour, was everything fine?

Yeah everything was more than fine to be honest with you, there is only good memories for us meeting all these great bands, the chemistry was great and that’s the thing with metal music, I feel there is always this sense of brotherhood that connecting people, I mean you just met some new bands for the very first time, and you instantly feel the love and the kindred spirits, that make u feel home really. We are not fucking rock stars and we always appreciate new bands, always trying to help whatever is the situation, we feel responsible to ourselves and to all our fans, that we are here to make them feel good, spread some love for metal, and that’s exactly was the case on the show.

What do you thing about the local bands Rise To Fall and The Descent?

I think I like them a lot and I appreciate their efforts and professionalism, we got to hang out with Carlo from The Descent and he is a super cool and kind guy that loves metal to death, and for us having all those unforgettable experiences that will stay forever in our minds, what else you want in Life? Great bands, great sound, lots of potential there, wish them the best for the future and to keep it up no matter what.

Ronnie Nyman is a machine! What energy!

Thank you, and yeah I feel so lucky to have to meet Ronnie and started working together on Nightrage, he gives so much into Nightrage and not only in the studio, I feel his best deal is on the live shows where he gives all his power and charisma. He loves to be on stage and doing these super energetic performances, and I can see and feel that his hardcore background playing an important role to have this character on stage, i mean even if someone that don’t listening to us see us live, he will definitely like what Ronnie is doing, because he is full of energy and he means every word he sang, he wants you be there with us, or he is coming down for u anyways, love him for that. And with him I feel confident and he makes the band sound so much better.

Who was the drummer in your live band?

This is Lawrence Dinamarca from Carnal Forge and Loch Vostok, he is helping us as a session for the time being on our shows, and we are looking forward to have him as a more stable member, amazing dude and drummer. He is super fast and also has this Latin groove that makes his playing more unique.

Your most recent album is “The Puritan”. How’s it going in terms of audience response?

We got really good comments from our fans and also the press and some big magazines gave us really good scores. I feel that this album really bringing forward all the good elements of what is Nightrage all about, and I feel that we came back stronger than ever before, with our re-born kind of mentality. We are back and we prove that we can take any pain and any hardship and always get back better than ever before, we are here to stay and Nightrage will carry on no matter what. The album has that “keep your head up high” sort of mentality and for us its our way to show the middle finger to those who have failed us.

In this CD you have the classical Nightrage sound, with a more modern touch and lightly thrash. It has been on purpose or just a coincidence?

I think that the songs came very naturally we knew that we didn’t want to compromise at all and keep the metal pure feelings all over the album and just be plain honest with our music, no bullshit tricks.

"The Puritan" is the outcome of another great struggle, the songs are even simpler and the sound we have this time, it´s the best and rawer sound that we have ever had. The new album speaks for itself. On one hand we are still the same band and we are doing what we have done all those years, so the long time fans they understand that is us and we are back stronger than ever before. On the other hand we have evolved and finally found ourselves musically, we are writing way more mature songs and the best is yet to come.

Which was the more difficult song in "The Puritan" to write and finish? Why?

I think that the title track for me was the most challenging song to record and in overall that album was not an easy task to accomplish. The title track was very fast at times and also I needed to get the right groove on my riffs to make them sound tight and natural.

Do you usually enter the studios with all the songs finished? How do you do it?

Yeah we are pretty much ready with all the songs, since we are writing all preproduction demos before for all songs, and lyrics. But in the end on the studio we need to change a lot of stuff and this time we got some assistance from Daniel Bergstrand that helped us make the songs better, plus Ronnie re-wrote a lot of lyrics and all vocal melodies were composed on the studio.

The CD sounds really good. How was the collaboration with Daniel Bergstrand and George Neratzis?

We are very satisfied from the sound of the new album, getting working with Daniel that was our new singer Ronnie idea since they are good friends he suggested that we could work with Daniel and I thought that could be the greatest thing to do, since I know Daniel and all the great work he has done with so many cool bands like Inflames and Meshuggah. Daniel Bergstrand and George Nerantzis are very professional in what they are doing and they gave us the biggest and loudest sound that we ever got, we are so pleased with the results and that is the first time for us felt that we have found some guys that born to care, love our songs and also they are willing to work countless hours to give us the best possible results and The Puritan is a great example of that collaboration.

Are you happy with the work done by Despotz Records?

Very much these guys are the best.
We got in contact with Despotz records, after searching for quite some time and from the first time we just clicked and they really liked the 4 song demo that we have send them, so they are offered us a deal that was really good and we could see a great potential in our cooperation. So far everything working really smooth on our cooperation and they are delivering everything that they have promised to us and even more, they having great ideas down and they are cool people, that they know the business and they are lovers of the music, something that is really important I think.

Please, tell me something about Greece, your homeland? I guess the crisis would have affected it local scene from which a lot of good bands and musicians have risen.

Yeah that whole economy collapse is affecting everything in my country but still people trying to live with it and make a better life with what they have. I mean it’s not the end of the world like some other people or media want to show it, for sure things have changed but we all need to work together to make the best out of it.

Yeah for sure that has affected the local scene but I guess for that kind of scene they didn’t mind too much since even on the years of the good times let’s say all the money the shitty music gets anyway, it was hard for them then and its hard now, so I feel that does not make that of a big difference anyway, metal its always the scapegoat, the music that scares people, the music that is against the norm and the hip, it’s the antihero music, and I like that because this way in the end only the ones that love it will stay and still believe in.

I still remember when I listened for the first time Deepest Side of Fear, the second Exhumation demo, as far as 1994. By this time I was a fanzine editor in Cuba. What are your memories from those times?

Oh thanks that you mention that I still love that demo and that was actually my first recording introduction on the metal world, I still have the best memories from this recordings we were so naive and inexperienced back then, but we had enormous passion and hunger to record the songs and express ourselves. At that time we were like almost underground heroes, presented in fanzine covers and getting rave reviews, and now u are mention it, this demo will be included as a bonus on the forthcoming CD-re-release of the first Exhumation album “Seas of Eternal Silence” from Vic records in early 2016. So wait for it.

What are your plans for 2016?

Doing a new album we already have 6 songs as rough preproduction demos, and we are also working on 2 Euro tours, one North American tour, A Russian tour, A Greek tour and also an Asian tour, we are confirmed for 2 festivals in Sweden and Finland already and we are looking for more options to go out there and promote our recent album "The Puritan".

Is there something you would like to include in this interview? Something I forgot to ask?

Thanks a lot for the nice Interview we had a blast in Spain and we can’t wait to come back. Keep it metal.
