Empezamos a enviarle algunas demos y se las mostró a Nicke Andersson (The Hellacopters/Imperial State Electric).

'Part Human, Mostly Beast'.

Hello, I wanted to congratulate you on the great album you are about to publish, it sounds great.

Thank you!

HDisease

This album still has groove and sounds organic but also the vocal arrangements have a strong presence. What do you think?

That's right, we put a lot of focus on the vocal arrangements on this record. On the debut album Jenna were doing all the lead vocals but we also experimented and had a lot of fun with the backing vocal arrangements. So this time we wanted to take it even further and worked a lot with soul influences for the vocals. Acid also took the mic for some lead so in the end it almost became 50/50 between Jenna and Acid. Which also made us realize that it's super cool when they both sing lead together, like they do in the song “Four Stroke Woman”. NIGHT's singer Oskar Andersson also joined for some backing vocals which put a lot of heavy spice into the record.

How has the process of conception of the album gone?

It's been a long, sweaty but fun ride. Between touring we've actually been writing songs since “The Transcendence” was recorded 2015. But like every band we've had some distractions. We changed record label and two band members, but when Cedric joined on bass last year things was put on place and we could write a lot together. We have always been touring during the whole pre-production. Which sometimes been stressful but mostly great because we've got the chance to try out some new material live. A really good way for the songs to develop because we want to capture the live feeling.

part human mostly beastWhich track was harder to complete and why?

That's hard to say. Some songs have been evolving a lot during the writing process. I think “Rymdvals”, “Tail Twister” and “Night By Night” are the tracks that have had most different shapes. But in the end they turned out great. It's important to dare to  change and to let the songs develop.

And the recording? To what extent was it different from previous records?

In the studio everything went pretty smooth and we didn't put too much effort in making stuff compeletly perfect. We wanted it rough and real. All the basics are recorded live in a few days and we actually choose to have a lot of guitar solos live too. This is the big difference from the debut album where we recorded everything completely seperate. It was a really fun experience to make it so different and I think we captured our live sound and intensity better this time.

You have recorded with Ola Ersfjord, a very important producer for a lot of Swedish bands. Do you know personally before? How has it been working with him?

Yes, Ola actually showed up on our second show ever in Stockholm 2014. Even though we of course were really new in the game he saw potential in us and wanted to keep in touch. We started to send him some demo tapes and he showed them to Nicke Andersson (The Hellacopters/Imperial State Electric). In the same time we got a record deal and after three month we were in the middle of the recordings of the debut album, which also is produced by Ola and co-produced by Nicke.

Since that first night in Stockholm we've been good friends and it came pretty natural to work with Ola again this time. He's been like a fifth member for us these past years and helped us grow a lot, both as a band and as musicians.

In which studio was recorded?

The studio is called Studio Ganymeden and is located in Linköping, Sweden. The town which is the headquarters for our label The Sign Records.

How would you define this new album?

It's a high voltage rock'n'roll record spiced with powerful and groovy soul. An album which is dangerous to listen to while driving.

It is a very varied album. I love songs like: “Tail Twister”, “Needle In Your Eye” & “Fly Bird, Fly High”, the latter has a very tuff Chuck Berry. What can you tell us about them?

It's a lot of variety between some songs which is pretty clear in the title “Part Human, Mostly Beast”. We can be soft, but watch out because the beast will be unleashed. “Fly Bird, Fly High” actually has a funny history. When we toured Spain last spring we did a show in Vitoria. The audience was crazy and even though we did two encores they couldn't accept that the show was finished. We could almost not breath anymore but they forced us up once again. We decided to do “Fly Bird, Fly High” even though it still was in the writing process. It was insane and so damn fun that we continued doing it on the rest of the tour. And the song ended up on the record exactly as it was played on that tour.

I had the opportunity to see you live in Portugalete, it was a strange concert for the place and the attempt to shorten it in concert. But I had a lot of fun, it was a great concert. Will you be back soon in Spain to present this new LP?

Haha, that was for sure a crazy show aswell! It was the hottest show we've ever done and so packed with people. When we had some songs left to play the cops came to shot the concert down. It was some weird minutes there but some nice guy gave us permission to play one more. I think we actually played two more and the audience was really great. A fun night and we can't wait to come back to Spain! So yes, we will for sure!

Any message passing our readers and fans in Spain?

Hope you guys like the new record. We can't wait to come back and drink pacharán and dance with you crazy people the whole night long!
