La banda italiana de Dark/Extreme Metal Graveworm lanzó su nuevo álbum 'Killing Innocence' bajo AFM Records a finales de abril. Made in Metal habla con el cantante Stefan Fiori para saber todo sobre el nuevo disco. (al final de la entrevista puedes escuchar el disco completo)

MiM: "Killing Innocence" (AFM Records, 2023) tiene un sonido sorprendente, envolvente, pesado y oscuro. Tu voz parece provenir del inframundo. Cuéntame sobre el proceso de producción del disco. ¿Quién estaba a cargo? ¿En qué estudio de grabación tuvo lugar?

GW: Hola. Esta vez cambiamos nuestro proceso normal de grabación. La batería se grabó en Linz (Austria) en los estudios Doomsound porque nuestro baterista Moe vive allí y le fue más fácil trabajar en ella. Las guitarras y el bajo se grabaron en Meran en los estudios Soundcontrol con Lukas, nuestro guitarrista, en el álbum "(N)utopia" y las voces se grabaron en Munich en los estudios Serious Black con Mario. La mezcla y masterización estuvo a cargo de Lawrence Mackrory en Suecia.

MiM: ¿Cómo es el proceso creativo de la composición de la música, es un proceso colectivo, o solo uno o quizás dos son los que componen en la banda?

GW: Solo Steve, nuestro guitarrista, es el compositor principal. Él compone toda la música, guitarras, teclados, etc. Cuando la canción está terminada nos reunimos todos en la sala de ensayo y trabajamos en ella. Todo el mundo tiene algunas ideas que tratamos. Cuando la canción está completamente terminada empiezo a trabajar en la letra.

MiM: ¿Cómo ves la posición de Graveworm en el panorama actual?

GW: Todavía somos una pequeña banda de metal de algunos locos que solo quieren divertirse en el escenario y divertirse con otras personas después de nuestros shows. La banda es un hobby para nosotros. Todos tenemos trabajos normales además de las actividades musicales.

MiM: El sonido de la banda navega por el Death Metal oscuro, melódico y el Black y el Gothic Metal. ¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias? ¿Cómo tratas de incluir elementos personales al crear música?

GW: Todos estamos influenciados por la música que escuchamos actualmente cuando componemos. Y el rango de ajuste es realmente grande. Desde la muerte hasta la música negra, oscura y, a veces, algo moderno. SI quieres o no, serás influenciado cuando escribas música. Pero eso no está mal. Todos somos fanáticos de la música y escribimos música de fanáticos para fanáticos.

MiM: Son una banda con varios años de formación con discos y muchos conciertos en su carrera. Mirando hacia atrás, ¿cómo calificarías el trabajo de la banda todos estos años?

GW: Pasamos mucho de nuestro tiempo componiendo, practicando y otras cosas que necesitas hacer para un álbum o para shows en vivo, entrevistas y otras cosas. Pero todavía lo estamos haciendo porque el resultado de este arduo trabajo es simplemente increíble. Puedes estar en el escenario, tocar frente a personas a las que les gusta tu música, puedes viajar por el mundo, conocer nuevos amigos, divertirte. El trabajo duro paga... y todavía estamos aquí y lo hacemos porque nos encanta.

MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum? ¿Conciertos o giras programadas en este nuevo año?

GW: Por el momento tenemos planeados algunos festivales para el verano y tenemos planeada una gira por Latinoamérica para el próximo año. Veremos qué nos depara el futuro.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.

Italian Dark/Extreme Metal band Graveworm released their new album "Killing Innocence" under AFM Records. Made in Metal talks with the singer Stefan Fiori to find out everything about the new album.

MiM: "Killing Innocence" (AFM Records, 2023) has a surprising, enveloping, heavy, and dark sound. Your voice seems to come from the underworld. Tell me about the production process of the record. Who was in charge? What recording studio did it take place in?

GW: Hey. This time we changed our normal recording process. The drums were recorded in Linz (Austria) at the Doomsound studios because our drummer Moe lives there and it was easier for him to work on it. Guitars and the bass were recorded in Meran at the Soundcontrol studios with Lukas our guitarist on the "(N)utopia" album and the vocals were recorded in Munich at the Serious Black studios with Mario. Mix and mastering were done by Lawrence Mackrory in Sweden.

MiM: How is the creative process of the composition of the music, is it a collective process, or only one or maybe two are the ones that compose in the band?

GW: Just Steve our guitarist is the main songwriter. He composes all the music, guitars, Keyboards, and so on. When the song is finished we meet all in the rehearsal room and work on them. Everyone has some ideas that we try. When the song is completely finished I start working on the lyrics.

MiM: How do you see the position of Graveworm in the current scene?

GW: We are still a small metal band of some crazy people who just want to have fun to be on stage and to party with other people after our shows. The band is a hobby for us. We all have normal jobs besides band activities.

MiM: The band's sound navigates through Dark, Melodic Death Metal and Black and Gothic Metal. What are your main influences? How do you try to include personal elements when creating music?

GW: We are all influenced by the music that we currently listening to when we compose music. And the range o fit is really big. From death to black, dark music, and sometimes some modern stuff. If you want or not you will be influenced when you write music. But that´s not bad. We are all music fans and we are writing music from fans for fans.

MiM: They are a band with several years of training with records and many concerts in their career. Looking back, how would you rate the work of the band all these years?

GW: We spent a lot of our time composing, practicing, and other things you need to do for an album or for live shows, interviews, and other stuff. But we are still doing it because the result of this hard work is just amazing. You can be on stage, playing in front of people who like your music, you can travel around the world, meet new friends, having fun. The hard work pays… and we are still here and doing it because we love it.

MiM: What plans do you have to promote this Album? Are concerts or tours scheduled in this new year?

GW: At the moment we have some festivals planned for summer and we have a tour in latin america planned for next year. We will see what the future will bring to us.
