"Estábamos tocando en un festival y un pájaro se cagó en el hombro de Alex"
La banda alemana de stoner/rock alternativo Bird's View lanzó su álbum debut 'Red Light Habits' en el sello Drakkar Entertainment / Soulfod Music el 19 de mayo. Excelente oportunidad para que Made in Metal hable con el cantante y guitarrista Niko Huber para conocer detalles sobre este álbum y la historia de la banda. MiM: ¿Cuéntame sobre los inicios de la banda? ¿Cómo surge la idea de formar la banda? ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre de la banda?
BV: Comenzamos la banda en 2019 después de que nuestro baterista Jan y el bajista Max se unieran a la banda. El lanzamiento de nuestro EP fue en febrero de 2020, por lo que entramos directamente en COVID, que no era el momento perfecto para salir de gira como siempre quisimos. La idea de formar esta banda era escribir y tocar nuestras propias canciones. ¡Para recorrer nuestros traseros y, con suerte, viajar con nuestra música a diferentes países para tocarlos! En pocas palabras: estábamos tocando en un festival y un pájaro se cagó en el hombro de Alex, nuestro guitarrista. Y eso de alguna manera fue la inspiración para el nombre de nuestra banda. ¡No muy espectacular jaja!
MiM: “Red Light Habits” (Drakkar Entertainment / Soulfood Music, 2023) es un excelente álbum. Sonido limpio y bien logrado. Me recuerda a lo mejor del rock británico. ¿Qué me puedes decir de este álbum?
BV: ¡Gracias por las amables palabras, hombre! Escribimos y grabamos nuestro álbum debut en medio de COVID. Para nosotros es un disco con un sonido muy diverso que era una especie de objetivo para nosotros. Riffs geniales, en la cara, pero aún dinámicos en su propio estilo. ¡Buenas canciones para hacer mosh y rebotar!
MiM: ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción? ¿Quién estuvo a cargo de la producción?
BV: Fue la primera vez que pasamos un período más largo en el estudio en Tonstudio Bieber, aquí en Alemania, Offenbach. Hicimos el disco junto con Oli Rüger. Fue genial escribir estas canciones y grabarlas. En retrospectiva, el proceso se sintió bastante fácil, aunque pasamos un montón de tiempo trabajando en ese disco. ¡Lo pasamos muy bien!
MiM: ¿Podríamos definir el sonido de la banda o, por el contrario, son una banda inquieta a la que le gusta innovar y abrir nuevas propuestas?
BV: Creo que no somos muy fanáticos de definir la música o empujar a las bandas directamente a un género o cajón. Pero quiero decir que definitivamente puedes escuchar de dónde venimos musicalmente, qué bandas nos influenciaron y dónde nos sentimos como en casa. ¡Y que las primeras influencias se queden! Pero quién sabe a dónde va todo esto...
MiM: ¿Cómo se da el proceso creativo en la banda a la hora de componer, estructurar y decidir qué canciones o composiciones formarán parte de un disco?
BV: Para este disco debut, "Red Light Habits", teníamos un montón de demos que grabamos en nuestra sala de ensayo. Por lo general, uno de nosotros tiene una idea y empezamos a improvisar. Muy de la vieja escuela… Así es como escribimos casi todas nuestras canciones. Luego fuimos al estudio, elegimos 13 canciones con nuestro productor Oli Rüger y comenzamos a arreglarlas muy detalladamente. Así que, en general, es un proceso bastante democrático, jaja…
MiM: Normalmente, cuando sacas un disco nuevo, lo normal después es salir de gira. ¿Qué planes tenéis para promocionar este disco?
BV: En primer lugar, queremos tocar el disco en vivo, reservar tantos espectáculos/festivales como sea posible y ¡girar nuestros traseros! Realizamos una pequeña gira por Alemania en mayo y hay muchas cosas planeadas para el resto del año... ¡así que será mejor que consultes nuestras redes sociales para no perderte nada! Realmente comencé a disfrutar de las entrevistas de radio en vivo; son casi siempre relajados y tienes una buena conversación cara a cara. Y luego, por supuesto, entrevistas, colaboraciones con Influencers, revistas, etc. ¡Y luego, por supuesto, crear tantos escándalos como sea posible! Cualquier cosa es buena promoción, ¿verdad?
MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.

Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with singer & guitarist Niko Huber to learn everything about this album and the history of the band.
MiM: Tell me about the beginnings of the band. How did the idea of forming the band come about? What is the concept behind the name of the band?
BV: We started the band in 2019 after our drummer Jan and bassist Max joined the band. Our EP release was in Feb 2020 so we slid right into COVID which wasn’t the perfect timing to go on tour what we always wanted. The idea of forming this band was to write and play our own songs. To tour our asses of and hopefully travel with our music to different countries to play those! Story short: We we’re playing on a festival and a bird shit on the shoulder of Alex our guitarist. And that somehow was the inspiration for our band’s name. Not very spectacular haha!
MiM: “Red Light Habits” (Drakkar Entertainment / Soulfood Music, 2023) is an excellent album. Sound clean and well achieved. It reminds me of the best of British rock. What can you tell me about this album?
BV: Thanks for the kind words man! We wrote and recorded our debut album in the middle of COVID. For us, it’s a very diverse sounding record which was kind of a goal for us. Kick ass riffs, in the face, but still dynamic in its own style. Good songs to mosh and to bounce to!
MiM: How was the recording and production process? Who was in charge of the production?
BV: It was our first time spending a longer period in the studio at Tonstudio Bieber, here in Germany, Offenbach. We made the record together with Oli Rüger. It was great, writing these songs and recording them. In retrospect, the process felt quite easy although we spent a shit ton of time working on that record. We just had a very good time!
MiM: Could we define the sound of the band or, on the contrary, are they a restless band that likes to innovate and open new proposals?
BV: I think we’re not very big fans of defining music or pushing bands right away into a genre or drawer. But I mean you can definitely hear where we’re musically coming from, what bands influenced us, and where we feel at home. And that early influences stay! But who knows where this whole thing is going…
MiM: How does the creative process take place in the band when it comes to composing, structuring and deciding which songs or compositions will be part of an album?
BV: For this debut record “Red Light Habits” we had a whole bunch of demos which we recorded in our rehearsal room. Usually one of us has an idea and we start jamming around. Very old school… This is how we write almost all of our songs. Then we went into the studio, picked 13 songs with our producer Oli Rüger and started to arrange them out very detail. So all in all it’s a quite democratic process haha…
MiM: Normally when you put out a new record, the normal thing to do afterward is to go on tour. What plans do you have to promote this record?
BV: In the first place we want to play the record live, book as many shows/ festivals as possible, and tour our asses off! We play a small Germany Tour in May and a lot of things are planned for the rest of the year… so you better check our socials to not miss anything! I really started to enjoy live radio interviews; they’re almost every time chill and you have a good face-to-face conversation. And then, for sure interviews, collaborations with Influencers, magazines, etc. And then for sure to create as many scandals as possible! Anything is a good promo, right?
MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers.
