Fundados en 1979, Nightmare se han convertido en una parte integral de la escena del metal europeo durante tres décadas y han sido prolíficos con el lanzamiento de sus álbumes mientras actualizaban y evolucionaban su sonido.

Estos veteranos franceses lanzarán su nuevo álbum “Encrypted” el próximo 7 de junio a través del prestigioso sello discográfico AFM Records. Fue una excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con Barbara Mogore, la cantante de la banda.

MiM: Hola, mi nombre es Raúl Cardona y es un privilegio hablar contigo. “Encrypted” (AFM Records, 2024) es un álbum con un sonido oscuro y pesado. Con una producción impecable. ¡¡Espléndido!! ¿Qué puedes decirme sobre este álbum?

NM: ¡Hola! Barbara, por Nightmare, gracias por invitarme. ¡Diría que es probablemente el álbum más ambicioso y ecléctico de Nightmare! Nos divertimos mucho creándolo y grabándolo. Y dejamos el proceso de mezcla y masterización a la excepcional Simone Mularoni de Domination Studio. Estamos muy orgullosos del álbum.

MiM: Este álbum será el primero contigo, quien le otorga una fuerza increíble y un rango vocal que le permite llevar a cabo diferentes cambios vocales. ¿Crees que la inclusión de Bárbara en la banda ha sido un beneficio?

NM: Hum, mira, eso espero. Me uní a la banda en 2022, con un rango diferente y diferentes influencias. Para mí era importante compartir mi interpretación e inspiraciones también; Agregar voces extremas ampliaría las posibilidades en el proceso de composición y le daría otro color y dimensión al nuevo álbum.

MiM: “Encrypted” es un disco con excelentes canciones, y casi se podría decir que es uno de los más relevantes dentro de la extensa discografía de la banda. ¿Cómo lo ves?

NM: Como dije antes, Nightmare es más ambicioso y tiene muchos matices y colores diferentes.

MiM: Más de cuatro décadas de carreteras son difíciles de sostener. ¿Cómo recuerdas esos inicios? ¿Qué tan difícil ha sido mantenerla?

NM: Soy nuevo en la banda, pero, como puedes imaginar, 40 años de historia significan numerosos cambios: formación, rupturas, industria musical, etc. Así que el objetivo era mejorar cada vez más y seguir disfrutando.

MiM: El sonido de la banda navega por el heavy metal con toques de death metal. ¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias? ¿Cómo intentas incluir elementos personales al crear música?

NM: Tenemos diferentes influencias y gustos en la música metal, pero todos estamos de acuerdo en el hecho de que queríamos crear algo melódico, con estribillos pegadizos, y siempre mantenemos ese número 1 en nuestra lista de objetivos. Todas nuestras influencias alimentan la composición y dan a nuestras pistas varios colores y matices.

MiM: ¿Cómo ha sido el proceso de grabación y producción musical de este nuevo álbum?

NM: El proceso fue como siempre: los guitarristas envían las instrumentales y luego creamos las líneas vocales.

MiM: ¿Crees que es superior al álbum anterior?

NM: Diferente, seguro, probablemente más rico; ahora es el momento de descubrir cómo lo recibirá la audiencia. Lanzaremos el nuevo álbum el 7 de junio, así que estamos en la era de la promoción, días de promoción y numerosos festivales hermosos en Francia, Italia, Eslovenia y Túnez. Estamos muy ilusionados con lo que viene.

Founded in 1979, Nightmare have become an integral part of the European metal scene for three decades and have been prolific with the release of their albums while updating and evolving their sound.

These French veterans will release their new album “Encrypted” on June 7 through the prestigious record label AFM Records. It was an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to Barbara Mogore, the singer of the band.

MiM: Hello, my name is Raúl Cardona, and it is a privilege to talk to you. “Encrypted”  (AFM Records, 2024) is an album with a dark and heavy sound. With impeccable production. Splendid!! What can you tell me about this album?

NM:Hi!! Barbara, for Nightmare, thanks for having me. I’d say that it’s probably Nightmare’s most ambitious and eclectic album! We had a lot of fun creating and recording it. And we left the mixing and mastering process to the exceptional Simone Mularoni from Domination Studio. We are very proud of the album.

MiM: This album will be the first with you, who imbues her with incredible strength and a vocal range that allows her to make different vocal changes. Do you think that Barbara's inclusion in the band has been a gain?

 NM:  Hum, look, I hope so. I joined the band in 2022, with a different range and different influences. It was important to me to share my interpretation and inspirations too; adding extreme vocals would widen the possibilities in the composition process and give another color and dimension to the new album.

MiM: “Encrypted” is an album with excellent songs, and one could almost say that it is one of the most important within the band's extensive discography. How do you see it?

NM: Like said before, NM’s most ambitious and has plenty of nuances and different colors.

MiM: More than four decades of roads are difficult to sustain. How do you remember those beginnings? How difficult has it been to maintain?

NM: I’m newly in the band, but, as you can imagine, 40 years of history means numerous changes: line-up, breaks, music industry, etc. So the aim was to improve more and more and keep on enjoying.

MiM: The band's sound navigates heavy metal with touches of death metal. What are your main influences? How do you try to include personal elements when creating music?

NM: We have all different influences and tastes in metal music, but we all agree on the fact that we wanted to create something melodic, with catchy choruses, and we always keep that #1 on our goal list. All our influences feed the composition and give our tracks various colors and shades.

MiM: How has the recording and musical production process for this new album been?

NM: The process was as usual: the guitarists send the instrumentals, and then we create vocal lines.

MiM: Do you think it is superior to the previous album?

NM: Different for sure, probably richer; now it is time to figure out how the audience will receive it. We're going to release the new album on June 7th, so we are in the promotion era, so promo days and numerous beautiful festivals in France, Italy, Slovenia, and Tunisia. We are very excited about what is coming.
