"Esperamos la oportunidad de actuar frente a una audiencia mundial"
La banda japonesa de rock progresivo con sede en Kansai, Kansai Progressive Rock Orchestra, lanzará su álbum 'KPRO' bajo Wormholedeath Records. Made in Metal habla con el teclista Dune Tanaka para conocer todo sobre este álbum y la historia de la banda.
MiM: Dune, ¿cuéntanos sobre los inicios de la banda?
DT: Cada uno de nosotros tocábamos en bandas de rock progresivo, así que nos conocíamos mucho antes de formarnos, y nos reuníamos y tomábamos tragos cada vez que teníamos la oportunidad. La idea de formar la banda fue concebida por Yasuhiro en una fiesta de bebidas.
MiM: “Kansai Progressive Rock Orchestra” (Wormholedeath Records, 2022) es un excelente álbum de Rock Progresivo. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción?
DT: Antes de grabar, los arreglos fueron ensayados y decididos a fondo. A continuación, cada miembro grabó las canciones en sus PC de casa basándose en datos MIDI creados por el compositor de cada canción. Mezclé los datos grabados para completar el álbum.

DT: Me gusta trabajar en cosas nuevas y me gusta probar cosas nuevas. Eso es rock progresivo.
MiM: ¿Cómo es el proceso creativo en la banda al momento de escribir, estructurar y decidir qué canciones o composiciones formarán parte de un disco?
DT: Yasuhiro, Derollin' y Shohei también componen música para otra banda. Tratamos de hacer uso de las personalidades y características de los miembros. Cuando se completan algunas canciones, agregamos canciones como piezas faltantes para el álbum. Las piezas que faltan para este álbum son "Introducción" y "Kirkus", por ejemplo.
MiM: Excelente diseño de portada de disco. ¿Quién estaba a cargo?
DT: Todos discutimos el concepto del álbum juntos. Le contamos el concepto a los diseñadores. El concepto se basa en la novela de larga duración "Traveling Lagos" de Yasutaka Tsutsui. Los diseñadores, Satoshi Tonokito y Motoyori Edure, dieron forma a nuestra imagen. Creemos que hicieron un buen trabajo.
MiM: ¿Qué puede hacer un sello como Wormholedeath Records y qué ventajas aporta a una banda como KPRO?
DT: Esperamos que Wormholedeath lleve nuestra música a un público más amplio. Como resultado, esperamos la oportunidad de actuar frente a una audiencia mundial.

DT: Realizamos conciertos principalmente en Osaka, Kobe y otras áreas de Kansai (nacional de Japón). Estamos buscando un agente de reservas, ya que también nos gustaría hacer una gira.

Kansai-based Japanese Progressive Rock band Kansai Progressive Rock Orchestra will be releasing their album "Rebels" under Wormholedeath Records. Made in Metal talks with the keyboard player Dune Tanaka to find out everything about this album and the history of the band.
MiM: Dune, tell us about the beginnings of the band.
DT: We each played in progressive rock bands, so we knew each other well before we formed, and we would get together and have drinks whenever we had the chance. The idea to form the band was conceived by Yasuhiro at a drinking party.
MiM: “Kansai Progressive Rock Orchestra” (Wormholedeath Records, 2022) is an excellent Progressive Rock album. How was the recording and production process?
DT: Before recording, the arrangements were thoroughly rehearsed and decided upon. Next, each member recorded the songs on their home PCs based on MIDI data created by the composer of each song. I mixed the recorded data to complete the album.
MiM: Tell me about the instrument called "Melodion". What is it about?
DT: Keyboard harmonica. It may be often recognized as a "Melodica" by Westerners.
MiM: Wakyo, the band's drummer is 17 years old. That's great! Is he empirical or does he have any academic training?
DT: Wakyo started piano at age 3 and started playing drums at age 10. He was taught by a professional (our previous drummer) and joined the brass band club in middle school. He also participated in rock sessions and other activities from around the age of 12. Wakyo joined the band on the recommendation of the previous drummer.
MiM: How do you see the Progressive Rock scene in Japan and which bands would you recommend me to listen to?
DT: There are many good bands and they are active. However, there are no commercially successful bands. Most of them have jobs for a living. I recommend Show-Yen and Derollin'. These are bands that our members are in and are active.
MiM: Could we take the sound of the band for granted or, on the contrary, are they a restless band that likes to innovate and open up new proposals?
DT: I like to work on new things, and I like to try new things. That's progressive rock.
MiM: How is the creative process in the band at the moment of writing, structuring, and deciding which songs or compositions will be part of an album?
DT: Yasuhiro, Derollin’, and Shohei also compose music for another band. We try to make use of the members' personalities and characteristics. When some songs are completed, we add songs as missing pieces for the album. The missing pieces for this album are "Introduction" and "Kirkus", for example.
MiM: Excellent album cover design. Who was in charge?
DT: We all discussed the concept for the album together. We told the concept about the designers. The concept is based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's full-length novel "Traveling Lagos". The designers, Satoshi Tonokito and Motoyori Edure, gave shape to our image. We think they did a good job.
MiM: What can a label like Wormholedeath Records do and what advantages does it bring to a band like KPRO?
DT: We expect Wormholedeath to bring our music to a wider audience. As a result, we look forward to the opportunity to perform in front of a worldwide audience.
MiM: Concert projects and tours for the rest of the year?
DT: We are performing concerts mainly in Osaka, Kobe, and other Kansai (Japan domestic) areas. We are looking for a booking agent, as we would like to tour as well.
