Billy Graziadei es más conocido como vocalista y guitarrista de Biohazard, la banda que desafió el género y saltó a la fama en los años 90. Pero esta vez nos anuncia un nuevo álbum de su proyecto en solitario BillyBio, “Leaders And Liars” que saldrá el 25 de marzo con AFM Records, así que estaremos conversando con él, sobre los pormenores de este lanzamiento.
MiM: ¡Hola Billy! ¿Cómo estás?
BB: ¡Hola Raúl! ¡Gracias por tomarte el tiempo para hablar conmigo sobre el nuevo disco "Leaders and Liars" y todo lo que está pasando!
MiM: Este nuevo álbum “Leaders And Liars” tiene un sonido poderoso. Puro Hardcore directo para destrozar los cerebros de los fans del género. ¿Qué me puedes decir al respecto?
BB: ¡Gracias! “Leaders and Liars” es mi segundo lanzamiento como BillyBio y, como siempre, no doy golpes ni me contengo. ¡Me doy la vuelta y comparto mis sentimientos más profundos y mis emociones más fuertes en una amplia gama de temas personales, sociales y mundiales! Te dejaré como periodista describir con tus palabras lo que piensas de él porque para mí es como un niño; ¡Solo tengo orgullo por algo que he creado!
MiM: ¿Cómo fue grabar y producir el álbum al mismo tiempo? El trabajo de los coros fue espectacular.
BB: Realmente no me propongo ningún objetivo cuando estoy creando, enfocarme en la idea en este momento eventualmente conduce a una colección de canciones que pintan una imagen, para mí, esta es "Leaders and Liars". Cada segundo lanzamiento de cualquier artista digno es siempre un nivel superior para mí. Es como lo que realmente hace a un artista en su esencia más profunda. ¡Tenemos toda nuestra vida para hacer el primer lanzamiento, pero solo unos pocos años para llegar al segundo lanzamiento!
MiM: “Leaders And Liars” seguramente se convertirá en uno de los álbumes Hardcore más importantes de los últimos años. En este disco tuviste varios invitados de lujo. ¿Cómo surgió la idea? ¿Cómo fue trabajar con Robbie Davidson y Ra Diaz?
BB: Wow, esa es una declaración poderosa. Sigo siendo humilde y agradecido de poder seguir creando y compartiendo lo que tengo dentro de mí. Esos tipos son amigos y tocan en BillyBio, así que supongo que no los consideraría invitados :) Ra también tocó el bajo en el primer lanzamiento de BillyBio; ¡Él y yo hemos estado de gira juntos durante años y somos amigos durante más tiempo! ¡Dan tiene que ser uno de los guitarristas líderes más prolíficos con los que he trabajado! Fred es un buen amigo y también mi baterista de Powerflo, ¡lo entregó todo en este nuevo lanzamiento! Robbie y yo somos amigos desde que salimos de gira con The Exploited. ¡Un tipo talentoso, un director increíble!
MiM: En el álbum hay quince pistas. Normalmente, los álbumes de Hardcore no tienen tantas canciones. ¿Cómo surgió la idea?
BB: Siempre estoy creando, escribiendo, tocando y nunca me detengo. Llega un punto en el que el álbum salta y toma forma. Hubo un punto en el que tenía un montón de canciones que parecían encajar y formar una imagen de lo que veía en mi cabeza que se convirtió en "Leaders and Liars". ¡Hay un documental increíble en mi página www.patreon.com/billybiohazard que trata sobre la escritura del primer sencillo/video de "One life to live", con Toby Morse de H20! En cuanto a hacerlo por mi cuenta, creo que siempre fui un artista en solitario, traje tantas canciones a los chicos de Biohazard, que creo que no les gustó porque no podían hacerlas, ¡eso es una broma! ¡Por supuesto que amo y respeto cómo funciona una banda! Luego lo pasaríamos por lo que llamamos la "picadora de carne Biohazard" en la que todos agregamos nuestras personalidades a la canción. Con BilllyBio, es como un artista que termina una pintura, da un paso atrás y la ama o la tira. No invitan a sus amigos a pasarles un pincel y pinturas diciendo ‘adelante, cambia lo que quieras’….
MiM: “Sheepdog” parece ser como la introducción de la próxima canción “Deception”. Pero su sonido electrónico rompe un poco con el sonido del propio disco.
BB: No hay solo dos tipos de personas en el mundo, el cazador y el cazado, o el fuerte y el débil... ¡Hay ovejas que necesitan ser defendidas de los lobos! Un perro pastor entiende los caminos del lobo y tiene compasión por los débiles o los oprimidos. De ahí venía yo con esa canción.
MiM: Una vez que el disco esté disponible para todos los fans de la banda, ¿cuáles son vuestros planes para promocionarlo?

MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.
BB: Acabo de terminar un nuevo video esta mañana para una canción llamada "Black Out". La ira reside muy dentro hasta que despierta. La supresión hace que el cáncer se propague hasta un punto en el que no hay retorno, carcomiendo desde lo más profundo hasta que explota. El autocontrol es un camino que muchos no siguen. La capacidad de lidiar con las emociones oscuras de manera positiva es la verdadera iluminación. Perdí la marca demasiadas veces en mi vida como para seguir ese camino en otro momento. La verdadera fuerza proviene del poder de vencer el instinto. Una cosa que todos debemos recordar: no confundas la amabilidad con la debilidad. Todos tenemos ese punto de quiebre, una línea en la arena que dibujamos. “Black Out” trata sobre la lucha por no cruzar esa línea y las consecuencias de cruzarla.
Aprendí desde el principio que establecer sus principios y valores ayuda a construir una base sólida. “Lost Horizon” y, de otra manera, “Generation Kill” tratan de lidiar con esto. Mantener esos ideales cerca es algo que creo que el mundo ha perdido. Muchos ignoran sus creencias fundamentales por varias razones, tal vez por miedo a la desaprobación entre sus compañeros o por miedo a ser "cancelados". Para mí, todo se reduce al principio básico de respeto, necesitamos más.

Billy Graziadei is best known as the vocalist and guitarist for Biohazard, the band that defied the genre and rose to fame in the '90s. But this time he's announcing a new album from his solo project BillyBio, “Leaders And Liars” coming out on March 25 with AFM Records, so we'll be chatting with him about the details of this release.
MiM: Hi Billy! How are you?
BB: Hello Raúl! Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about the new record “Leaders and Liars” and everything I have going on!
MiM: This new album “Leaders And Liars” has a powerful sound. Pure Hardcore direct to destroy the brains of fans of the genre. What can you tell me about it?
BB: Thank you! “Leaders and Liars” is my second release as BillyBio and as always, I don’t pull punches or hold back. I turn myself inside out and share my deepest feelings and my strongest emotions on a wide range of personal, social, and world issues! I’ll let you as a journalist describes in your words what you think of it because for me, it’s like a child; I only have pride in something I create!
MiM: How was recording and producing the album at the same time? The work of the choirs was spectacular.
BB: I don’t really set out with any goal when I'm creating, focusing on the idea at the moment eventually leads to a collection of songs that paint a picture, for me, this one is “Leaders and Liars”. Every second release for any worthy artist is always a level up for me. It’s like what really makes an artist at their deepest core. We have our whole life to make the first release but only a few years to come up with the second release!
MiM: “Leaders And Liars” is sure to become one of the most important Hardcore albums in recent years. In this album, you had several luxury guests. How did the idea come about? How was it working with Robbie Davidson and Ra Diaz?
BB: Wow, that’s a powerful statement. I remain humble and thankful that I can continue to create and share what I have inside of me. Those guys are friends and play in BillyBio so I guess I wouldn’t consider them guests :) Ra played bass on the first BillyBio release also; he and I have been touring together for years and friends for even longer! Dan has to be one of the most prolific lead guitar players I’ve ever worked with! Fred is a good friend and also my drummer for Powerflo, he delivered the goods on this new release! Robbie and I have been friends since we’ve been touring together with The Exploited. Talented dude, amazing director!
MiM: In the album, there are fifteen tracks. Normally Hardcore albums don't have that many songs. How did the idea come about?
BB: I’m always creating, writing, jamming, and never really stop. There comes a point where the album kind of jumps out and takes form. There was a point where I had a bunch of songs that just seemed to fit together and form a picture of what I saw in my head that became “Leaders and Liars”. There’s an awesome documentary on my patreon.com/billybiohazard page that goes through the writing of the first single/video for “One Life to live”, featuring Toby Morse from H20! As for doing it on my own, I think I was always a solo artist, I brought in so many finished songs to the Biohazard guys, to the point where I think they didn’t like it because they couldn’t do it, that’s a joke. I of course love and respect how a band works! We would then put it through what we called the “Biohazard meat grinder” of sorts where we all add our personalities to the song. With BilllyBio, it’s like an artist who finishes a painting stands back and either loves it or throws it away. They don’t invite their friends over to hand them a paintbrush and paints saying ‘go ahead and change what you want’….
MiM: “Sheepdog” seems to be like the Intro of the next track “Deception”. But its electronic sound breaks a little with the sound of the album itself.
BB: There are not just two types of people in the world, the hunter and the hunted, or the strong and the weak…There are sheep that need to be defended from the wolves out there! A sheepdog understands the ways of the wolf and has compassion for the weak or oppressed. That’s where I was coming from with that track.
MiM: Once the album is available to all the fans of the band, what are your plans to promote it?

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers?
BB: I just finished a new video this morning for a song called “Black Out”. Anger resides deep inside until it awakes. Suppression causes cancer to spread to a point where there’s no return, eating away from deep within until it explodes. Self-control is a path not followed by many. The ability to deal with dark emotions in a positive manner is true enlightenment. I’ve missed the mark too many times in my life to go down that road another time. True strength comes from the power to overcome instinct. One thing we all need to remember: don’t mistake kindness for weakness. We all have that breaking point, a line in the sand that we draw. “Black Out” is about the struggle to not cross that line — and the consequences of it being crossed.
I learned early on that setting your principles and values help build a strong foundation. “Lost Horizon” and in another way, “Generation Kill” are both about dealing with this. Keeping those ideals close is something I think the world has lost. So many disregard their core beliefs for various reasons, maybe out of fear of disapproval among peers, or fear of being ‘canceled’. For me, it all comes down to the basic principle of respect, we need more of it.
