“En cuanto escuché una guitarra shredder, me enamoré por completo de ella”
Tras la marcha de cuatro integrantes de la leyenda del Power Metal, Primal Fear, la banda anunció la confirmación del fichaje de una nueva guitarrista, Thalia Bellazecca (Frozen Crown, Angus McSix, de origen ítalo-cubano). Fue una excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con ella y conocer su historia.
MiM: Thalia, echando la vista atrás, me gustaría que me contaras cómo empezó todo, es decir, ¿cuándo sentiste que te gustaba tocar la guitarra? ¿Por qué la guitarra eléctrica y no otro instrumento?
TB: Empecé a tocar la guitarra a los ocho años, y tengo que agradecer a mis padres porque me vieron saltando en el sofá fingiendo tocar la guitarra y decidieron hacerme aprender el instrumento. Fue amor a primera vista, y en cuanto escuché una guitarra shredder, me enamoré por completo de ella.
MiM: Estuviste en Frozen Crown desde el principio hasta 2020. ¿Cómo recuerdas esa etapa? ¿Crees que estar en la banda te ayudó a desarrollarte como músico?
TB: Fue una buena experiencia que me ayudó a crecer como persona y como músico. Fue útil porque comencé a acercarme a la industria musical y comencé a desarrollar mi personalidad escénica a una edad muy temprana.
MiM: En todas las reseñas, dice que eres italiano/cubano. ¿Naciste en Cuba? ¿Tus padres, o al menos uno de ellos, son cubanos? ¿Dónde vives actualmente?
TB: Nací en Italia y vivo aquí. Fui a Cuba solo un par de veces cuando era pequeño. Mi madre nació y creció en Cuba, en La Habana.
MiM: ¿Cómo fue el proceso de firma de Primal Fear para ti? Cuéntame sobre la reunión con Ralf Scheepers.
TB: Conocí a Ralf en un festival aquí en Italia llamado Luppolo in Rock; él estaba aquí porque iba a interpretar algunas canciones con Gamma Ray esa noche. Nos conocimos allí y discutimos sobre varios temas; fue una conversación agradable y relajada. Unas semanas después de que me contactara para que me convirtiera en el nuevo guitarrista de Primal Fear, pensó en mí después de ver mis videos donde toco y pensó que era una buena opción para la banda.
MiM: Ralf Scheepers tuvo palabras de elogio para ti, cuando hizo el anuncio oficial de tu entrada en la banda. ¿Crees que, a partir de ahora, será una nueva etapa de desarrollo y promoción para ti como guitarrista? ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas?
TB: Es un paso gigante para mí ser parte de esta legendaria banda. Estoy seguro de que creceré aún más con estos músicos, no solo profesionalmente sino también personalmente. Estoy más que feliz de ser parte de esto porque siempre estoy abierta y feliz de aprender de personas mayores que yo, y tener esta oportunidad me hace sentir realmente honrada y orgullosa. No tengo expectativas; solo estoy listo para absorber todo lo que veo y escucho, y estoy listo para crecer y desarrollarme aún más en la persona que soy.
MiM: ¿Cuándo será tu primera actuación con la banda? ¿Qué expectativas tienes?
TB: Tendremos los primeros shows el año que viene, 2025. Estoy segura de que será épico y muy divertido. Me siento ansiosa si lo pienso, pero en el buen sentido, por supuesto. Muy emocionada; no puedo esperar a subir al escenario con todos estos músicos excepcionales.
MiM: Eres zurda y creo que eso te hace especial a la hora de tocar la guitarra. ¿Fue algo que tuviste claro desde el principio? ¿Cómo lo ves?
TB: ¡Muchas gracias! Siempre supe que era zurda y para mí es totalmente normal tocar así. Entiendo y veo que no es algo común de ver por ahí, pero para mí es totalmente normal. Desde que empecé a tocar, siempre quise mantener mi mano izquierda como dominante, así que siempre toqué de esta manera.
MiM: ¿Cuáles son tus grandes influencias en la guitarra?
TB: Mis mayores influencias fueron Megadeth, Joe Satriani, Kiko Loureiro, Angra y Andy Timmons. Estos fueron los primeros artistas que escuché desde que empecé a tocar.
MiM: Voy a mencionar tres nombres de guitarristas femeninas dentro del mundo del rock y el metal para que, en una palabra, me des tu opinión sobre su trabajo como instrumentista. Nita Strauss, Lita Ford y Jennifer Batten.
TB: Estas mujeres me han encantado desde que las descubrí. Hicieron un trabajo notable en el mundo del rock y el metal, sobre todo en demostrar que las mujeres también pueden hacer esto y de la mejor manera posible. Todas ellas, y por supuesto hay más, son músicos espectaculares, y aunque nunca las conocí, creo que todas son personas increíbles también. Fueron una inspiración para seguir adelante en este mundo y nunca rendirse, porque si ellas lo lograron, todos podemos lograrlo también.
MiM: ¿Conoces Cuba y su realidad? ¿Conoces o has escuchado alguna banda de rock cubana?
TB: Sé de la situación actual en Cuba y estoy muy triste y enojada por ello. Me encantaría hacer algo para cambiar las cosas, pero desafortunadamente, no se puede hacer mucho. Me encantaría volver allí porque me siento muy cercana a ese país. Incluso cuando nací y crecí en Italia, Cuba sigue siendo mi país también. Desafortunadamente, no sé. No conozco ninguna banda de rock cubana, pero seguro que las buscaré.
MiM: Por último, ¿te gustaría compartir algunas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores?
TB: Quiero agradecer a todos los fans que me han estado siguiendo desde que comencé a tocar y a hacer giras y a los nuevos que me acaban de descubrir. Ni siquiera pueden imaginar cuánto significa esto para mí; ver el amor, el apoyo y cómo me defienden es reconfortante. Sigan siendo la persona asombrosa que son, difundan amor y, si tienen una meta, trabajen duro para lograrla porque no hay nada mejor que ser feliz y estar satisfecho con la vida que crearon.
After the departure of four members of the Power Metal legends, Primal Fear, the band announced the confirmation of the signing of a new guitarist, Thalia Bellazecca (Frozen Crown, Angus McSix, of Italian-Cuban origin). It was an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to her and know her story.
MiM: Thalia, looking back, I would like you to tell me how it all started, that is, where did you feel that you liked playing the guitar? Why the electric guitar and not another instrument?
TB: I started playing the guitar when I was eight, and I have to thank my parents because they saw me jumping on the sofa pretending to play the guitar and decided to make me learn the instrument. It was love at first sight, and as soon as I heard a guitar shredding, I was completely in love with it.
MiM: You were in Frozen Crown from the beginning until 2020. How do you remember that stage? Do you think being in the band helped you develop as a musician?
TB: It was a good experience for helping me to grow as a person and as a musician. It was helpful because I started approaching the music industry and I started to develop my stage persona at a really young age.
MiM: In all the reviews, it says that you are Italian/Cuban. Were you born in Cuba? Are your parents, or at least one of them, Cubans? Where are you currently living?
TB: I was born in Italy, and I live here, I went to Cuba just a couple of times when I was little. My mom was born and raised in Cuba, in Havana.
MiM: How did the Primal Fear signing process happen to you? Tell me about the meeting with Ralf Scheepers?
TB: I met Ralf at a festival here in Italy called Luppolo in Rock; he was here because he was going to perform some songs with Gamma Ray that night. We met there, and we discussed any topic; it was a nice and chill conversation. A few weeks after he contacted me about becoming the new guitarist of Primal Fear, he thought of me after he saw my videos where I play and thought that I was a good fit for the band.
MiM: Ralf Scheepers had words of praise for you, when he made the official announcement of your entry into the band. Do you think that from now on, it will be a new stage of development and promotion for you as a guitarist? What are your expectations?
TB: It is a giant step for me to be part of this legendary band. I’m sure I will grow even more with these musicians, not only professionally but also personally. I’m more than happy to be part of this because I’m always open and happy to learn from older people than me, and having this opportunity makes me really honored and proud. I don’t have expectations; I’m just ready to absorb everything I see and hear, and I’m ready to grow and build up even more into the person I am.
MiM: When will your first performance with the band be? What expectations do you have?
TB: We will have the first shows next year, 2025. I’m sure that it will be epic and a lot of fun. I’m a bit anxious if I think about it, but in a good way, of course. I’m just really excited, and I can’t wait to go on stage with all these outstanding musicians.
MiM: You are left-handed, and I think that makes you special when it comes to playing the guitar. Was it something that you were clear about from the beginning? How do you see it?
TB: Thank you so much! I always knew that I was a lefty, and for me, it’s totally normal to play like this. I understand and see that it’s not a common thing to see around, but for me, it’s totally normal. Since I started playing, I always wanted to keep my left hand as the dominant one, so I always played in this way.
MiM: What are your great influences on the guitar?
TB: My greatest influences were Megadeth, Joe Satriani, Kiko Loureiro, Angra and Andy Timmons. These were the first artists I listened to since I started playing.
MiM: I am going to mention three names of female guitarists within the world of rock and metal so that, in one word, you can give me your opinion about their work as an instrumentalist. Nita Strauss, Lita Ford, and Jennifer Batten.
TB: I have loved these women since I discovered them. They did a remarkable work in the rock and metal world, especially about showing that women can do this as well and in the best way ever. All of them, and of course there are more out there, are spectacular musicians, and even if I never met them, I think that they are all awesome people as well. They were an inspiration for keeping on pushing in this world and never giving up because if they made it, we can all make it as well.
MiM: Do you know about Cuba and its reality? Do you know or have you heard any Cuban Rock bands?
TB: I know about the current situation in Cuba, and I’m really sad and pissed about it. I would love to do something to make a change, but unfortunately, you can’t do much alone. I would love to go back there because I feel really close to that country. Even if I was born and raised in Italy, Cuba, it’s still my country as well. Unfortunately, I don’t know any Cuban rock bands, but I will for sure look out for them!
MiM: Finally, would you like to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers?
TB: I want to thank all the fans that have been following me since I started playing and touring and the new ones that just discovered me. You can’t even imagine how much this means to me; seeing the love, support, and how you guys defend me out there is heartwarming. Keep on being the astonishing person you are out there, spread love, and if you have a goal, work hard for achieving it because there’s nothing better than being happy and satisfied with the life you created.
