“Somos percibidos como una banda con nuestra propia identidad única”
La banda italiana de hard rock, Anims, lanzó su nuevo álbum “Good 'n' Evil” el 31 de mayo, a través de los sellos discográficos: Sneakout Records/Burning Minds Music Group. Es una excelente opción para Made in Metal hablar con Francesco Di Nicola, el guitarrista y bajista, para conocer todo lo relacionado con este nuevo material del álbum.
MiM: ¡Good 'n' Evil (Sneakout Records/Burning Minds Music Group, 2024) es un álbum con una energía increíble! ¿Qué me puedes contar sobre este álbum?
FDN: ¡Oh, en primer lugar, muchas gracias por el maravilloso cumplido! Good 'n' Evil ha sido creado con la experiencia y el discernimiento artístico de solo tres músicos, lo que da como resultado un álbum que es una mezcla entre hard rock y heavy metal. Ya hemos leído muchas críticas notables, y esto es algo genial para nosotros. Un aspecto positivo es que a la gente le cuesta compararnos con una banda famosa, y cuando los críticos lo hacen, siempre mencionan bandas diferentes, nunca la misma. Esta es quizás nuestra mayor satisfacción: ser percibidos como una banda con nuestra propia identidad única. Por supuesto, este no es un tema nuevo, pero las referencias bíblicas en las que se basan la mayoría de las letras son frecuentes y poderosas. El metal a menudo se asocia con la exaltación de los demonios, los ídolos y el mal; siempre esperamos que esto se haga principalmente por broma, como cuando ves una película de terror por la emoción de tener miedo, pero sabiendo que, sea cual sea el final de la película, no te pasará nada. FDN: ¡Gracias de nuevo, Raúl! Paolo Caridi y yo ya hemos tocado juntos en otro álbum, “Deserts” de Krell. El cantante principal era Luca Bonzagni, cantante principal de la banda italiana Crying Steel durante mucho tiempo. Fueron capaces de crear una sinergia increíble en ese álbum, por lo que su colaboración continuó con Good 'n' Evil.
El álbum nació básicamente de los riffs de guitarra y las melodías que compuse. Él creó bases musicales parcialmente crudas, lo que permitió que Paolo tocara la batería en el estudio. De hecho, tocaron juntos en los primeros tiempos de Danger Zone, y tocaron juntos en el primer trabajo oficial del grupo: “Victim of time” en 1984. En el 40 aniversario de la canción, decidimos tocarla de nuevo e insertarla en este segundo álbum de Anims. Es un tema rápido y ciertamente muy de los 80, una composición fresca y joven: una composición de juventud. Disfrutamos mucho tocando “Victim of Time” en el estudio por su frescura y velocidad. En cierto modo, también representa a Anims.
MiM: Elle Noir es sin duda una vocalista con una fuerza increíble, que le da un estilo único a la banda. ¿Tu formación es académica o empírica? ¿Cómo mantienes tu voz en forma?
FDN: Creemos que la voz de Elle Noir, junto con nuestra influencia musical de los 80, es lo que hace que sea tan difícil para los críticos de Anims compararnos fácilmente con bandas famosas. La voz de Elle es indudablemente potente, pero nosotros mismos no la consideramos una voz clásica del metal: puede ser rasposa para el metal más oscuro, aterciopelada para las partes más suaves y, a veces, incluso sorprendentemente blusera. Elle Noir lleva mucho tiempo cantando a nivel profesional; además, tiene una sólida base académica, es apasionada y está constantemente practicando y mejorando.
MiM: ¿Qué planes tenéis para promocionar este álbum?
FDC: Paolo Caridi se va de gira europea con Reb Beach; Elle Noir está igualmente ocupada grabando un programa de televisión semanal y preparándose para una serie de veladas en solitario, por lo que no podemos organizar conciertos en este momento. Sin embargo, aunque es un poco tarde, estamos pensando en grabar el videoclip de “The Cherubims”, el tema de apertura del álbum. Fue elegido como la primera canción del álbum porque representa bien todo el trabajo.
MiM: Por último, ¿queréis compartir unas palabras con vuestros fans y nuestros lectores?
FDC: Sí, gracias. Aunque todos estamos muy ocupados con nuestra música, hemos empezado a trabajar en el tercer álbum. Esperamos que, mientras tanto, algunos de vosotros tengáis la curiosidad suficiente para escuchar atentamente “Good ‘n’ Evil”.
Dicho esto, recordad siempre pensar en el bien como la ausencia del mal. Recordad siempre que si disfrutáis pensando en el mal, es mucho mejor pensar en el bien. Por último, recordad siempre que el bien es la ausencia del mal. Nunca tengas miedo de revelar la parte más bonita de ti mismo porque, si lo piensas, no hay nada más gratificante.

The Italian hard rock band, Anims, released their new album “Good 'n' Evil” on May 31, under the Sneakout Records/Burning Minds Music Group record labels. It is an excellent option for Made in Metal to talk to Francesco Di Nicola, the guitars & bass player, to find out everything related to this new album material.
MiM: Good 'n' Evil (Sneakout Records/Burning Minds Music Group, 2024) is an album with incredible energy! What can you tell me about this album?
FDN: Oh, firstly, thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! Good ’n’ Evil has been created with the experience and artistic discernment of just three musicians, resulting in an album that is a mix between hard rock and heavy metal. We have already read so many great reviews, and this is a great thing for us. A positive aspect is that it's hard for people to compare us to a famous band, and when reviewers actually do so, they always mention different bands, never the same one. This is perhaps our biggest satisfaction: being perceived as a band with our own unique identity. For us, the album contains deep lyrics, with a common theme being the contrast between good and evil. Of course, this is not a new topic, but the biblical references on which most lyrics are based are frequent and powerful. Metal is often associated with the exaltation of demons, idols, and evil; we always hope that this is done mostly out of jest, like when you watch a horror movie for the thrill of being scared, but knowing that however the movie ends, nothing will happen to you. Real life, however, is not a movie: if you really believe in evil, it's probably much better to think of good defeating it, don't you think?
MiM: Your work together with Paolo Caridi has resulted in an excellent Hard Rock album! Surprising sound, well-made melodies, and impeccable production. What was the recording and production process for the album like?
FDN: Thanks again, Raul! Paolo Caridi and I have already played together on another album, “Deserts” by Krell. The lead singer was Luca Bonzagni, long-time lead singer for the Italian band Crying Steel. They were able to create amazing synergy on that album, so their collaboration continued with Good 'n' Evil.
The album was basically born from the guitar riffs and melodies I composed. He created partially crude musical bases, allowing Paolo to play the drums in the studio. I subsequently played the definitive guitar and bass tracks over the drums. Finally, Elle Noir added the vocals, expertly recorded and mixed by Roberto Priori in his Pristudio in Bologna, Italy.
MiM: “Victim of Time” is a song with fast guitars, guitar solo with excellent melodies and cuts!! What can you tell me about this topic?
FDN: The sound engineer Roberto Priori and I are old friends. In fact, they played together in the early Danger Zone days, and they played together in the group's first official work: “Victim of time” in 1984. On the song's 40th anniversary, we decided to play it again and insert it in this second album by Anims. It's a fast track and certainly very 80s, a fresh and young composition: a composition of youth. We truly enjoyed playing “Victim of Time” in the studio because of its freshness and speed. In a way, it also represents Anims.
MiM: Elle Noir is undoubtedly a vocalist with incredible strength, giving a unique style to the band. Is your training academic or empirical? How do you keep your voice in shape?
FDC: We believe that Elle Noir's voice, together with our 80s musical influence, is what makes it so difficult for Anims reviewers to easily compare us with famous bands. Elle's voice is unquestionably powerful, but we ourselves don't consider it a classic metal voice: it can be scratchy for darker metal, velvety for softer parts, and at times even surprisingly bluesy. Elle Noir has been singing at a professional level for a long time; furthermore, she has a solid academic base, she is passionate, and she is constantly practicing and improving herself.
MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album?
FDC: Paolo Caridi is going on a European tour with Reb Beach; Elle Noir is just as busy recording a weekly TV show and preparing for a series of solo evenings, so we can't organize concerts at the moment. However, even though it's a bit late, we are thinking of shooting the video clip for “The Cherubims”, the opening track of the album. It was chosen as the first song on the album because it represents the entire body of work well.
MiM: Finally, do you want to share a few words with your fans and our readers?
FDC: Yes, thank you. Even though we are all very busy with our music, we have started working on the third album. We hope that, in the meantime, some of you will be curious enough to attentively listen to “God ‘n’ Evil”!
That said, always remember to think of good as being the absence of evil. Always remember that if you enjoy thinking about evil, it is much better to think about good. Finally, always remember never to be afraid to reveal the most beautiful part of yourself because, if you think about it, there is nothing more rewarding.
