Primeramente agradecer vuestro tiempo por la siguiente entrevista que hemos preparado con algunas preguntas de cara al lanzamiento de vuestro quinto disco de estudio que se lanzará el 25 de enero bajo el título de ‘Bitter’ y a través del sello Despotz Records

Tengo que admitir que mi primer contacto con Corroded fue a raíz del cuarto disco ‘Defcon Zero’, el cual me pareció un gran trabajo y que suponía un aire fresco dentro de la escena metalera. Lo estuve escuchando durante semanas a raíz de la reseña que hice en su momento. ‘Bitter’ es vuestro quinto disco de estudio y hace justamente diez años de vuestro debut con ‘Eleven Shades Of Black’. ¿Qué nos podéis contar sobre vuestro recorrido musical durante estos diez años?

Cuando grabamos el primer álbum no éramos más que niños que no sabían nada de nada. Ahora todos somos mayores y aún no sabemos nada de nada. Bromas aparte, creo que siempre hemos estado grabando las cosas que queremos grabar. Pero en estos dos últimos álbumes "Defcon Zero" y "Bitter", tuvimos la oportunidad de hacerlo sin ninguna implicación del lado de la etiqueta. Y eso nos dio la oportunidad de explorar un sonido Corroded que es más áspero, más duro y más al núcleo de quiénes somos.

Musicalmente ‘Bitter’ es superior a ‘Defcon Zero’. Posee mucho más cuerpo sonoro, suena más compacto, contundente pero a la vez algo más pausado en donde se ha mimado y cuidado mucho la melodía tanto a nivel musical como en lo vocal. Seguramente ‘Bitter’ será vuestro mejor trabajo hasta la fecha, tal como afirman la mayoría de las bandas a la hora de lanzar su nueva obra musical. Para los fans que no han tenido aún tiempo de escucharlo al completo. ¿Nos gustaría saber un poco más sobre el concepto o la historia que hay detrás en vuestro nuevo álbum?

Bueno, creo que teníamos el mismo enfoque que siempre cuando empezamos a escribir y grabar cosas nuevas. Si es bueno vamos a usarlo, y si no es bueno, entonces lo desechamos. No es ciencia de cohetes por ningún medio. La diferencia en este álbum sin embargo, es el hecho de que sólo tuvimos un fin de semana para escribir cosas juntos como una banda, y que era un nuevo tipo de desafío. I (Jens) y Tomás escribieron mucho juntos a través de Skype y nos enviaron un montón de proyectos a través de Internet.

Un detalle que me ha parecido sorprendente es que todas las canciones que vienen en ‘Bitter’ son a través de títulos de una sola palabra. ¿Nos podéis dar el significado de dicha decisión?

Eso comenzó como una herramienta para que yo escribiera la letra. Le di a cada canción una palabra para describir el sentimiento que tenía cuando lo oí por primera vez, y resultó ser tan bueno que lo mantuvimos de esa manera.

Hemos visto que habéis lanzado dos vídeos que corresponden a los nuevos cortes ‘Burn’ y ‘Cross’. El primero me ha parecido muy divertido y desternillante, no vamos a dar más detalles del mismo. Merece la pena su visión. ¿Contadnos un poco de quién fue la idea de ese aparatoso robo que se produce en ‘Burn’?

Bueno, en realidad es al revés. El primer video en esta trilogía de videos es "Cross" y eso es una especie de video "ordinario", que termina con el secuestro de Bjarne nuestro bajista. El segundo video es "Burn" es todo acerca de lo que tenemos que hacer si queremos conseguir que regrese. El tercer video es "Breathing" y que sale el viernes 18 de enero (la entrevista se preparó dos semanas antes del lanzamiento de su tercer vídeo, disponible al final de la entrevista), y que contiene el gran clímax de la trilogía.

Sólo queríamos hacer algo más que los videos de metal "normal", y simplemente siendo estúpidos hicimos estos videos. Tomás (guitarra) escribió todos los videos y tuvo una colaboración con Ted Lindén (Bullsize) que grabó y editó todas las cosas.

Un detalle que me gustaría hablar con vosotros ha sido que después del lanzamiento de ‘Defcon Zero’, habéis publicado un más que interesante EP de tres canciones del disco, ‘A Note To Me’, Day Of Judgement’ y ‘Carry Me My Bones’,  pero en formato muy íntimo y acústico bajo el título ‘A Note To Me – The Nevo Sessions’. Sin duda alguna se trata de un desnudo a nivel musical de la banda y su sonido a través del vídeo del corte de la balada ‘A Note To Me’ me ha parecido fantástico. ¿Se trata de un trabajo puntual o puede haber una posible continuación durante los próximos meses?

Eso no es algo que hemos estado planeando hacer para este álbum, pero nunca lo que depara el futuro.

Así de directos somos. ¿Cuales son vuestras principales influencias musicales?

Tenemos muchas influencias musicales diferentes en la banda, casi demasiadas para mencionar. Sin embargo casi todos en la banda tienen sus raíces musicales firmemente basadas en el barro y la arena de los años setenta, con bandas como Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin y así sucesivamente. Yo mismo soy un gran fan de AC/DC. Cuando se trata de cosas más modernas, son bandas como Machine Head, Slayer, Pantera, e In Flames, por citar algunas.

Me consta que habéis estado actuando en festivales internacionales fuera de España pero a día de hoy no habéis pisado nuestro país para ofrecer vuestra propuesta musical, la cual e insisto me parece adecuada para hacerlo a través de una propia gira, o cómo teloneros o en uno de los festivales que tanto solemos tener a nuestro país. ¿Qué les podéis decir a los promotores de nuestro país para que se fijen en Corroded?

Nos encantaría actuar más en España, pero desafortunadamente no nos toca a nosotros, necesitamos que ustedes nos ayuden cuando se trata de eso. Hablé con sus festivales locales, envíe correos electrónicos y llamadas de teléfono y diga ... Hey por qué no está Corroded actuando aquí en este festival, los necesitamos para tocar aquí para nosotros ....

En el caso de ser teloneros de una importe banda internacional ¿Con qué banda os gustaría compartir escenario? y ¿Qué podemos esperar de un directo de Corroded?

Una banda como Slipknot, Machine Head o algo así sería super cool para abrir. Lo que conseguirías es ver toda la fuerza de lo que Corroded puede dar en directo.

En vuestra página web aún no hay fechas visibles de vuestro tour de presentación de ‘Bitter’. Supongo que hasta la salida del disco no habrá confirmaciones de ningún tipo pero ¿Nos podéis adelantar algo o es un asunto ‘top secret’?

Desafortunadamente no está nada super ordenado hasta ahora, pero mientras tanto siempre se puede ver nuestro Facebook para las noticias con referencia a nuestros próximos conciertos.

First of all thank your time for the following interview we have prepared with some questions for the launch of your fifth studio album to be launched in the coming days under the title of 'Bitter' and through the label Despotz Records.

I have to admit that my first contact with Corroded was in the wake of the fourth album 'Defcon Zero', which I thought was a great job and that supposed a fresh air inside the metal scene. I've been listening for weeks following the review I made at the time. 'Bitter' is your fifth studio album and just ten years ago of your debut with 'Eleven shades of Black'. What can you tell us about your musical journey during these ten years?

When we recorded the first album we were nothing but kids who didn’t know anything about anything. Now we are all older and still don’t know anything about anything. All kidding aside, I think that we have always been recording the stuff that we want to record. But on these last two albums “Defcon Zero” and “Bitter”, we had the chance to do it without any involvement from the label side. And that gave us a chance to explore a CORRODED that is rougher, harder and more to the core of who we are.

Musically 'Bitter' is superior to 'Defcon Zero'. It has much more sound body, it sounds more compact, forceful but at the same time something more leisurely where it has pampered and very careful the melody both at musical level and in the vocal. Surely 'Bitter' will be your best work to date, as most bands say when launching their new musical work. For fans who have not yet had time to listen to the full. Would you like to know a little more about the concept or the story behind your new album?

Well, I think that we had the same approach as we always do when start to write and record new stuff. If it’s good we will use it, and if it’s not good then we discard it. It’s not rocket science by any means. The difference on this album however, is the fact that we only had one weekend to write stuff together as a band, and that was a new kind of challenge.  I (Jens) and Tomas wrote a lot together via Skype and we sent a lot of projects to each other via internet.

One detail that I found surprising is that all the songs that come in 'Bitter' are through titles of one word. Can you give us the meaning of that decision?

That started out as a tool for me to write the lyrics. I gave each song one word to describe the feeling a got when I heard it for the first time, and it turned out so good that we kept it that way.

We have seen that you have released two videos that correspond to the new cuts 'Burn' and 'Cross'. The first one has seemed very funny and hilarious, we will not give more details of it. It's worth your vision. Did you tell us a little bit of who was the idea of that robot robbery that's produced in 'Burn'?

Well it is actually the other way around. The first video in this trilogy of videos is “Cross” and that is kind of an “ordinary” video, which ends with the kidnapping of Bjarne our bass player. The second video is “Burn” is all about what we need to do if we want to get him back. The third video is “Breathing” and that comes out Friday the 18’Th of January, and that contains the big climax of the trilogy.

We just wanted to do something else other than the “normal” metal videos, and since we all like to goof around and just being plain stupid we did these videos. Tomas (guitar) wrote all the videos and had a collaboration with Ted Lindén (Bullsize) who recorded and edited the all the stuff.

One detail that I would like to talk to you about was that after the launch of 'Defcon Zero', you have published a more than interesting EP of three songs of the album, 'A Note To Me', 'Day Of Judgement' and 'Carry Me My Bones', but in very intimate and acoustic format under the title 'A Note to Me – The Nevo Sessions'. Without a doubt it is a nude musical level of the band and its sound through the cut video of the ballad 'A Note to Me' I found fantastic. Is it a timely job or can there be a possible continuation over the next few months?

That is not something that we have been planning on doing for this album, but you never what the future holds.

That's how we live. What are your main musical influences?

We have lot of different musical influences in the band, almost too many to mention. However almost everyone in the band have their musical roots firmly based in mud and grit of the seventies, with bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and so forth. I myself am a huge fan of AC/DC. When it comes down to more modern stuff, it is bands like Machine Head, Slayer, Pantera, In Flames that rocks our boat.

I know that you have been acting in international festivals outside Spain but today you have not stepped on our country to offer your musical proposal, which and I insist it seems appropriate to do so through a tour, or how openers or one of The festivals that we usually have in our country. What can you tell the promoters of our country to be fixed in Corroded?

We would absolutely love to play more in Spain but unfortunately is not up to us, we need you guys to help us when it comes to that. Talk to your local festivals, send emails and phone them and say….. Hey why is not CORRODED playing here at this festival, we need them to play here for us.

In the case of being openers of an amount international band what band would you like to share the stage?. And what can we expect from a direct from Corroded?

A band like Slipknot, Machine Head or something like that would be super cool to open for. What you would get is the full force of what CORRODED can give.

On your website there are still no visible dates of your 'Bitter' presentation tour. I suppose that until the exit of the disc there will be no confirmations of any kind but can you advance us something or it is a matter 'top secret'?

Unfortunately is nothing super sorted so far, but in the meantime  you can always check out our facebook for news.
