Los power metaleros finlandeses Frozen Land lanzaron su nuevo álbum 'Out Of The Dark' el 16 de junio a través de Massacre Records. Made in Metal habla con el guitarrista Tuomas Hirvonen para saber todo sobre este disco.

MiM: Después de 5 años de tu último sello discográfico, ¿cómo se siente volver al estudio? ¿Cómo han sido estos últimos cinco años?

FL: En primer lugar, ¡gracias por tomarte el tiempo de contactarnos! Parece que hay tanta música en línea hoy en día que siempre es más difícil llamar la atención. Es Tuomas aquí respondiendo, por cierto. Me sentí un poco decepcionado por la situación en el negocio de la música después del lanzamiento del último álbum. Es una tontería, porque lo que puedes controlar es hacer mejor música y promocionarla mejor. En cambio, no hicimos música nueva en varios años. En la Navidad de 2022, nuestro gran admirador Artur Miasik se puso en contacto con nosotros y nos preguntó si estábamos dispuestos a hacer otro álbum y él podría ayudarnos si queríamos. El correo electrónico de Artur es realmente el motivo del nuevo álbum. Nos trajo “Out of the dark” y me dio la alegría de hacer música de nuevo.

MiM: “Out Of The Dark” (Massacre Records, 2023) es un álbum con un sonido increíble. Epic Power Metal a la vieja escuela que nos hace viajar por una gran historia. ¿Qué me puedes decir de este disco? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción? ¿Quién estuvo a cargo de la producción?

FL: Wow, ¡muchas gracias por los elogios, Raúl! Realmente intentamos hacer metal de la vieja escuela para la gente a la que le gusta el power metal de los 90. A veces puede parecer que estamos copiando bandas, pero bueno, todo se ha hecho antes. No somos la banda más original, eso seguro. Solo queremos traer algo a la gente que dice “Ojalá esta banda clásica hiciera otro disco como sus clásicos…” La producción se hizo en 5 meses. Eso significa composición, letras, preproducción. Nuevamente Tuomas hizo la música y principalmente en el auto manejando a algún lado, tarareando riffs y melodías al iphone. La producción se realizó principalmente en línea debido a razones económicas. Nino Laurenne de Sonic Pump hizo un trabajo fantástico en la mezcla. Creemos que tiene un sonido abierto y fresco.

MiM: "King's A Bitch" es una excelente canción con un mensaje muy moderno. ¿Qué me puedes decir?

FL: Se trata de todos los tiranos del mundo, esos cabrones. Todo el mundo debería hacer algunos hongos y tener un puto agarre. Paz y amor. Algunas personas están enojadas porque suena como un sonido de Helloween. ¡Claro que sí! Fue hecho para honrar a esa gran banda. Una vez más, no debe tomarse demasiado en serio.

MiM: El diseño de la portada es espectacular. ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del diseño? ¿Quién estaba a cargo?

FL: ¡Gracias! Nosotros también lo sentimos. Fue hecho por Andrey Vasilchenko. Gran artista. Queríamos esa figura de "Señor de la escarcha" y una especie de sentimiento al viejo estilo de Dio. Ya sabes, santo buceador...

MiM: Con "The Slayer" y "Senorita" dan un giro diferente musicalmente hablando. Estos dos últimos temas del álbum mezclan metal con Eurodance. ¡¡Es excelente!! ¿Es tan? ¿Cómo surgió la idea? ¿Me puedes decir al respecto?

FL: Jaja, eres el primero que escucha esas canciones. ¡Excelente! En el primer álbum hicimos una versión de Eurodance de E-type Angels llorando. Ahora quería hacer un par de nuestras propias canciones originales en ese estilo. Una vez más, nos lo pasamos muy bien jugando esos. Solo espero que la gente capte nuestro humor. Tal vez después de un par de tequilas, ¿verdad? Disfrutamos de todo tipo de música y la industria de la música va a ser de solteros de todos modos, así que no sentimos que el estilo del álbum fuera violado por estas canciones.

MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum? Conciertos o giras programadas.

FL: Desafortunadamente no ahora. Necesitaríamos un enema para refrescar nuestra mirada y un gerente.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.

FL: No te tomes la vida demasiado en serio, no dejes que los murciélagos oscuros te arrastren al infierno, abre tus alas y vuela hacia el cielo. Dale un mordisco a la luna. Toma un par de tragos y dale un poco de amor a tu media naranja. Sonríe a tu vecino. ¡Mantente mental!

Finnish power metallers Frozen Land released their new album "Out Of The Dark" on June 16 via the prestigious record label Massacre Records. Made Made in Metal talks to the guitar player Tuomas Hirvonen to find out everything about this album.

MiM: After 5 years of your last record label, how does it feel to go back to the studio? How have these last five years been?

FL: First of all thanks for taking the time to contact us! Seems that there’s so much music online nowadays that it’s always harder to get the spotlight. It's Tuomas here answering by the way. I kind of felt disappointed about the situation in the music business after the release of last the last album. It’s a silly thing because what you can control is to make better music and to promote it better. Instead, we didn’t make any new music in several years. In Christmas 2022 we were contacted by our big fan Artur Miasik and he asked that if we were willing to do another album and if he could help if we wanted to. Arturs email really is the reason for the new album. It brought us “Out of the dark” and gave me joy in making music again.

MiM: “Out Of The Dark” (Massacre Records, 2023) is an amazing-sounding album. Epic Power Metal to the old school that makes us travel through a great story. What can you tell me about this record? How was the recording and production process? Who was in charge of the production?

FL: Wow, thanks so much for the compliments, Raul! We really try to make old-school metal for people who like 90s power metal. It sometimes may seem that we are copying bands, but hey, its all been done before. We aren’t the most original band, that's for sure. We only want to bring something to people who say “I wish this classic band would do another record like their classic ones…” The production was done in 5 months. That means composition, lyrics, and pre-production. Again Tuomas did the music and mainly in the car driving somewhere, humming riffs and melodies to iPhone. Production was done mostly online due to economic reasons. Nino Laurenne at Sonic Pump did a fantastic job on the mixing. We think it’s open sounding and fresh.

MiM: "King's A Bitch" is an excellent song with a very modern message. What can you tell me?

FL: It’s about all the tyrants in the world, those pissants. Everybody should do some shrooms and get a fucking grip. Peace and love. Some people are angry because it sounds like a Helloween sound. Sure it does! It was made to honor that great band. Again, it’s not to be taken too seriously.

MiM: The cover design is spectacular. What is the concept behind the design? Who was in charge?

FL: Thanks! We feel so too. It was made by Andrey Vasilchenko. Great artist. We wanted that “Frost lord” figure to it and a kind of old Dio-style feeling. You know, holy diver…

MiM: With "The Slayer" and "Senorita" they take a different turn musically speaking. These last two tracks on the album mix metal with Eurodance. It's excellent!! Is it so? How did the idea come about? Can you tell me about it?

FL: Haha, you’re the first one that gets those songs. Great! On the first album, we did a Eurodance cover of E-type Angels Crying. Now I wanted to do a couple of our own original songs in that style. Again, we had a great time playing those. I just hope that people would get our humor. Maybe after a couple of tequilas, right? We enjoy all kinds of music and the music industry is going to be singles anyway, so we didn't feel that the style of the album was raped by these songs.

MiM: What plans do you have to promote this Album? Concerts or scheduled tours.

FL: Unfortunately not right now. We would need an enema to freshen our look and a manager.

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers.

FL: Don’t take life too seriously, don’t let the dark bats drag you to hell, but spread your wings and fly to the sky. Have a bite of the moon. Take a couple of drinks and give your better half some loving. Smile to your neighbor. Stay metal!
