"Una banda que nunca para, que lo da todo en cada show"
La banda alemana de Power Metal Melódico Freedom Call lanzará el 14 de julio su nuevo álbum 'The M.E.T.A.L. Fest' bajo el prestigioso sello discográfico Steamhammer/SPV. Excelente oportunidad para que Made in Metal hable con Francesco Ferraro, el bajista de la banda, para saber todo sobre este álbum.
MiM: El M.E.T.A.L. Fest (Steamhammer/SPV, 2023) es un disco en directo explosivo, lleno de energía y fuerza. Canciones pegadizas y épicas que te llevan a través de toda una historia. ¡Impresionante! Francesco, ¿cómo recuerdas esos dos conciertos?
FF: Oh oh oh, ¡realmente nunca podré olvidar esos shows! Ha sido mi primera vez en el Metal Fest de Plzen (CZ) y me ha encantado el ambiente, el público, el escenario... todo estaba en el lugar adecuado para un momento épico. ¡Y el clima también estuvo de nuestro lado, porque esperó solo a que termináramos el concierto, y luego comenzó a llover a cántaros sobre el campo! ¡Y el concierto de Regensburg también estuvo genial! ¿Una sala llena de gente y amigos de toda Europa que viajaron solo para verte tocar? Eso es algo genial, ¿no? Personalmente, pensé que debería haber estado más nervioso por la grabación, ¡pero no lo estaba! ¡Y estoy muy feliz por eso! eh eh...
MiM: El M.E.T.A.L. Fest es la única pista nueva grabada en el estudio. ¿Cómo surgió la idea?
FF: Queríamos decir que estamos de regreso, que la máquina Freedom Call tiene hambre de más, y ¿cómo hacer esto mejor que dar un gran éxito de Freedom Call que dice exactamente esto?
MiM: M.E.T.A.L y Union Of The Strong son sin duda una declaración de principios para la banda. ¿Qué me puedes decir al respecto?
FF: Claro, “M.E.T.A.L.” y “Union of the Strong”, al igual que varias otras canciones, son verdaderos himnos de lo que es Freedom Call: música metal, fiestas felices, fuertes sentimientos de hermandad y aceptación y orgullo de quienes somos. Pero creo que hay otras canciones que pueden ser más fuertes al explicar lo que estamos trayendo a cada escenario: “Metal is for Everyone” realmente encaja con el trabajo, sin ningún rastro de duda. Es un llamado a un vínculo sin restricciones, sin fronteras. Es una invitación para que todos se unan a la fiesta y se diviertan.
Y, seguro que lo veremos, “El M.E.T.A.L. Fest” pronto se convertirá en un buen aspirante al trono del himno Happy Metal Party, en mi opinión.
MiM: Francesco, en este álbum en vivo es muy notable lo bien que Chris Bay está en la voz, muestra que estás en excelentes condiciones. ¿Cómo crees que logra mantener esa fuerza en su voz a pesar de los años?
FF: Realmente no lo sé. Pero Chris es un ser enérgico, siempre está en movimiento, haciendo muchas cosas para la banda y por él. Creo que es el talento, la dedicación y la condición natural que lo ayuda con la fuerza de su voz. Está cuidando su voz, claro, pero eso no significa que esté evitando todos los días todas las cosas que tenemos que hacer y los esfuerzos que requiere la gira. Efectivamente es totalmente lo contrario...
MiM: Son una banda con varios años de formación con discos y muchos conciertos en su carrera. Mirando hacia atrás, ¿cómo calificarías el trabajo de la banda todos estos años?
FF: Oye, hasta 2019 solo soñé con poder ser parte de una banda de este nivel, entonces, ¿cómo puedo calificarlos como menos que realmente geniales?
Es una banda que nunca para, que lo da todo en cada show, que es realmente amada por los fans y gente de todas partes disfruta viendo sus presentaciones...
MiM: Una vez que el disco esté disponible para todos los fans de la banda, ¿qué planes tenéis para promocionarlo?
FF: Sí, ya estamos en movimiento para la temporada de festivales de verano: ya hemos estado en Suecia y Alemania; pronto estaremos en Suiza, España, volviendo a Alemania, República Checa, Finlandia, Italia, Eslovaquia, Austria... ¡y más por venir! Será un verano genial saltando de un escenario a otro... y también tendremos algunas sorpresas que mostrar, ¡así que no te las pierdas!
MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.

MiM: The M.E.T.A.L. Fest (Steamhammer/SPV, 2023) is an explosive live album, full of energy and strength. Catchy, epic songs that take you through a whole story. Awesome! Francesco how do you remember those two concerts?
FF: Oh oh oh, I really can never forget those shows! It has been my first time at the Metal Fest in Plzen (CZ) and I loved the atmosphere, the crowd, the stage... everything was in the right spot for an epic time. And the weather was on our side too, because it waited just for us to end the concert, and then it started to pour rain on the field! And the Regensburg concert was great too! A room full of people and friends from all over Europe that traveled just to see you play? That's some great stuff, isn't it? Personally, I thought I should have been more nervous about the recording, but I wasn't! And I'm very happy about it! Eh eh...
MiM: The M.E.T.A.L. Fest is the only new track recorded in the studio. How did the idea come about?
FF: We wanted to say that we are back, that the Freedom Call machine is hungry for more, and how to do this better than giving out a Freedom Call smashing hit that says exactly this!?
MiM: M.E.T.A.L and Union Of The Strong are undoubtedly a statement of principles for the band. Is it so? What can you tell me about it?
FF: Sure, “M.E.T.A.L.” and “Union of the Strong”, as much as several other songs are real hymns of what Freedom Call is all about metal music, happy partying, strong brotherhood feels and acceptance and pride of who we are. But I think that there is one other song that can stand stronger in explaining what we are bringing to every stage: “Metal is for Everyone” really fits the job, without any trace of doubt. It's a call for a bond without restrictions, without borders. It's an invitation to everyone to join the party and have fun. And, we will see for sure, “The M.E.T.A.L. Fest” will soon become a good claimant to the throne of Happy Metal Party hymn, in my opinion!
MiM: Francesco, on this live album it's very remarkable how well Chris Bay is on vocals, it shows you're in excellent condition. How do you think he manages to maintain that strength in his voice despite the years?
FF: I really don't know. But Chris is an energetic being, is always in movement, doing a lot of things for the band and by himself. I think it's talent, dedication, and natural condition that helps him with his vocal strength. He is taking care of his voice, sure, but this does not means that he is avoiding every day all the things we have to do and the efforts that touring requires. It is indeed totally the opposite thing...
MiM: They are a band with several years of training with records and many concerts in their career. Looking back, how would you rate the work of the band all these years?
FF: Hey, 'til 2019 I just dreamed to be able to be part of a band on this level, so how can I rate´em less than truly great?
It's a band that never stops, that gives everything in every show, that is truly loved by the fans and people from everywhere enjoy seeing their performances...Really, the rate comes by itself, don't you think?
MiM: Once the album is available to all the fans of the band, what plans do you have to promote it?
FF: Yep, we are already on the move for the summer festival season: we already have been in Sweden and Germany; soon we will be in Switzerland, Spain, coming back to Germany again, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Slovakia, Austria... and more to come! It will be a very great summer jumping from one stage to the other...and we will also have some surprises to show, so don't miss them!
MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers
