“Somos como un cálido abrazo y un huracán al mismo tiempo”
La banda sueca de stoner rock/fuzz groove, Greenleaf, lanzó su nuevo álbum The Head & The Habit el 21 de junio a través de Magnetic Eye Records. Liderados por el guitarrista Tommi Holappa, cofundador de los creadores europeos de rock desértico Dozer, varios grupos de Greenleaf con miembros de Lowrider, Truckfighters, Demon Cleaner y Dozer aparecieron y desaparecieron durante esos primeros años. MiM: “The Head & The Habit” (Magnetic Eye Records, 2024) es un álbum con un sonido sucio, potente y pesado. Una producción excepcional. ¿Qué me puedes contar sobre este álbum?
GL: Nuestro objetivo era combinar el material que, pensamos, era genial de los álbumes anteriores y luego agregarle un poco más de energía. Para hacer algunos éxitos de verdad. Hemos tenido un gran impulso en la banda desde que comenzamos a tocar en vivo nuevamente después del coronavirus, y lo usamos mucho en el proceso de composición.

GL: Creo que tomamos influencias de todas partes para ser sinceros. Ninguno de nosotros necesariamente escucha mucho stoner rock a diario. Pero, por supuesto, el rock de los años 70 y la era del heavy rock de los años 90 son la base de nuestra música. Como cantante, estoy muy influenciado por mucha música soul y pop, cantantes con voces diversas y un gran sentido de la melodía.
MiM: ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción musical del álbum?
GL: Karl Daniel Lidén, nuestro productor, siempre está a cargo del sonido y la producción. Cuando se trata de ese tema, confiamos completamente en él. En cuanto a la composición de canciones, Tommi generalmente tiene la última palabra, pero siempre discutimos las cosas juntos.
MiM: ¿Podríamos definir el sonido de la banda o, por el contrario, son una banda inquieta a la que le gusta innovar y abrir nuevas propuestas?
GL: Creo que constantemente tratamos de renovarnos mientras tratamos de mantenernos fieles a nuestro sonido. Dedicamos mucho tiempo a que eso suceda.
MiM: En relación con la presentación del álbum “The Head & The Habit” en vivo. ¿Cómo dirías que es un concierto de Greenleaf?
GL: Como un cálido abrazo y un huracán al mismo tiempo, ja, ja, ja. Queremos dejar a la gente boquiabierta, pero de una manera cómoda.
MiM: Normalmente, cuando se lanza un nuevo álbum, lo normal después es hacer una gira. ¿Qué planes tenéis para promocionar este álbum?
GL: Ahora estamos de gira por Europa en otoño y tenemos numerosas fechas programadas para el próximo año también. Tocaremos tanto como podamos.

The Swedish Stoner Rock/Fuzz Groove band, Greenleaf, released their new album The Head & The Habit on June 21 through Magnetic Eye Records. Led by guitarist Tommi Holappa, co-founder of European desert rock creators Dozer, various Greenleaf setups featuring personnel from Lowrider, Truckfighters, Demon Cleaner and Dozer came and went during those early years. It was an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to his singer, Arvid Hällagård.
MiM: “The Head & The Habit” (Magnetic Eye Records, 2024) is an album with a dirty, powerful, and heavy sound. Exceptional production. What can you tell me about this album?
GL: Our goal was to combine the stuff that, we thought, was cool from the previous albums and then add a bit more energy to it. To make some real bangers. We have had a real kick in the band since we started playing live again after Corona, and we used that a lot in the writing process.
MiM: What are the most direct influences when composing new material for the band?
GL: I think we take influences from all over to be truthful. None of us necessarily listen that much to stoner rock on a daily basis. But, of course, 70s rock and the 90s era of heavy rock is the foundation for our music. As a singer, I'm very influenced by a lot of soul and pop music, singers with diverse voices and a great sense of melody.
MiM: How was the recording and musical production process for the album?
GL: Karl Daniel Lidén, our producer, is always in charge of the sound and the production. When it comes to that stuff, we trust him completely. Songwriting wise, Tommi usually has the last say, but we always discuss stuff together.
MiM: Could we define the sound of the band or, on the contrary, are they a restless band that likes to innovate and open new proposals?
GL: I think we constantly try to renew ourselves while trying to stay true to our sound. We put a lot of time into making that happen.
MiM: In relation to presenting the album “The Head & The Habit” live. What would you say a Greenleaf concert is like?
GL: Like a warm hug and a hurricane at the same time, haha. We want to blow people away, but in a comfortable way.
MiM: Normally, when you release a new album, the normal thing afterward is to tour. What plans do you have to promote this album?
GL: We are touring Europe now in the fall & have numerous dates lined up for next year as well. We will play as much as we can.
MiM: Finally, did I want you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers?
GL: I just hope people dig the album & that they will have the chance to see us live! We will do our best to entertain, haha.
