Tristan Harders es el vocalista de esta interesante banda de power metal y conversa con Raúl Cardona acerca de la historia de la banda.
MiM: ¿Hola Tristán! ¿Cómo estás?
TA: ¡Hola Raúl! Estoy bien, ¡gracias por invitarme!
MiM: ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre de la banda?
TA: El nombre Terra Atlantica se traduce como 'Tierra Atlántica'. Esto, por supuesto, se refiere a la legendaria ciudad de Atlantis, que es el centro de la historia que recorre nuestros álbumes. Originalmente queríamos llamar a la banda solo Atlántica pero ese nombre ya estaba tomado.
MiM: Tristán, el álbum debut de la banda se tituló 'A City Once Divine' (Gegentred Records, 2017) es un excelente disco y tiene un sonido increíble. ¿Cuál es el concepto musical del álbum? ¿Cuál es la historia que se cuenta en este álbum?
TA: La historia (que, por cierto, se puede leer en nuestro sitio web en su totalidad) trata sobre un hombre del siglo XIX que descubre que en su vida anterior fue ciudadano de la Atlántida. Quiere saber más sobre su pasado y poco a poco va descubriendo la historia de cómo la ciudad fue ahogada por los Dioses hace 1100 años debido a la codicia y ansia de poder de sus habitantes.
MiM: ¿Cómo fue la recepción y reacción de los fans por este álbum?
TA: A mucha gente le gustó el álbum, y especialmente el hecho de que tratamos de tocar power metal al estilo de bandas de principios de la década de 2000 como Edguy. Esto nos animó a poner aún más empeño en el segundo álbum.
MiM: El último disco de la banda es 'Age of Steam' (Pride & Joy Music, 2020), ¿Puedes hablarme de este álbum? ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás de las letras de las canciones? ¿En qué estudio de grabación tuvo lugar?
TA: En el segundo álbum decidimos agregar más elementos steampunk, como ya lo hicimos en el primer álbum, representados en nuestros atuendos de escenario. La historia es una secuela del primer álbum. La ciudad de Atlantis resurge de nuevo a la superficie en el siglo XIX y con la invención de la máquina de vapor inicia la revolución industrial. Sin embargo, al Imperio Británico no le hace gracia esto y los ve como una amenaza. Entonces comienza una guerra y los héroes de la historia deben salvar a la ciudad de su segunda destrucción. Grabamos el álbum en la Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas de Hamburgo, donde solía estudiar en ese momento. Allí tenían un estudio de grabación.
MiM: Según la crítica, la influencia de bandas como Running Wild y Hammerfall se nota en este álbum. ¿Qué criterio tienes al respecto? ¿Cuáles son vuestras principales influencias a la hora de componer nuevo material?
TA: Bueno, nuestro concepto es tocar música en un estilo que otras bandas solían hacer pero que ya no. Así que nuestra intención es sonar como los primeros Hammerfall. Sin embargo, no nombraría a Running Wild como una influencia. Apenas conozco canciones de ellos. Nuestras principales influencias son Edguy, Avantasia y Rhapsody.
MiM: ¿Fue este un disco que se grabó antes de la cuarentena? ¿Qué tan difícil fue cuando lo comparas con el proceso de grabación del álbum anterior?
TA: Grabamos “Age of Steam” en 2018. No había cuarentena en ese entonces. Sin embargo, lo lanzamos en 2020 y eso fue un gran problema porque no pudimos tocar en ningún concierto para promocionar el álbum y todavía no hemos podido hacerlo hasta el día de hoy. Ahora mismo estamos grabando el tercer álbum, pero como casi todo lo hacemos nosotros mismos, las restricciones no son un problema.
MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum? ¿Conciertos o giras programadas en este nuevo año?
TA: Tenemos una gira planeada para abril junto con Grailknights que durará dos semanas en toda Alemania. ¡Esperemos que no se cancele! Aparte de eso, también tenemos planeados dos conciertos en festivales, así como dos shows de lanzamiento para el nuevo álbum en octubre.
MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.
TA: ¡Usaré esta oportunidad para dar las gracias a todos nuestros fanáticos que siguen escuchando nuestra música todos los días! MiM: Hi Tristan!! How are you?
TA: Hi Raúl! I'm fine, thanks for having me!
MiM: What is the concept behind the name of the band?
TA; The name Terra Atlantica translates to 'Atlantic Land'. This of course refers to the legendary city of Atlantis, which is the center of the story that goes throughout our albums. Originally we wanted to call the band just Atlantica but that name was already taken.
MiM: Tristan, the band's debut album was entitled “A City Once Divine” (Gegentred Records, 2017) is an excellent record and has an amazing sound. What is the musical concept of the album? What is the story told in this album?
TA: The story (which can be read on our website in its entirety by the way) is about a man in the 19th century who finds out that in his former life he was a citizen of Atlantis. He wants to know more about his past and slowly discovers the history of how the city was drowned by the Gods 1100 years ago due to the greed and lust for power of its inhabitants.
MiM: How was the reception and reaction of the fans to this Album?
TA: A lot of people liked the album, especially the fact that we try to play power metal in the style of early 2000s bands like Edguy. This encouraged us to put even more work into the second album.
MiM: The latest record of the band is “Age of Steam” (Pride & Joy Music, 2020), Can you tell me about this Album? What is the concept behind the lyrics of the songs? In which recording studio did it take place?
TA: In the second album, we decided to add more steampunk elements, represented in our stage outfits, as we already had on the first album. The story is a sequel to the first album. The city of Atlantis rose again to the surface in the 19th century and the invention of the steam engine initiates the industrial revolution. The British Empire however is not amused by this and sees them as a threat. So a war begins and the heroes of the story have to save the city from its second destruction. We recorded the album at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, where I used to study at that time. They had a recording studio there.
MiM: According to critics, the influence of bands like Running Wild and Hammerfall is noticeable on this album. What criteria do you have in this regard? What are your main influences when composing new material?
TA: Well our concept is to play music in a style that other bands used to do but don't anymore. So it is our intention to sound like the early Hammerfall. I wouldn't name Running Wild as an influence though. I hardly know any songs of them. Our main influences are Edguy, Avantasia, and Rhapsody.
MiM: This was an album that was recorded in full quarantine. How difficult was it when you compare it to the recording process of the previous album?
TA: We recorded “Age of Steam” in 2018. No quarantine back then. We released it in 2020 though and that was a big problem because we couldn't play any gigs to promote the album and still couldn't do so to this day. Right now we are recording the third album but as we mostly do everything ourselves restrictions aren't a problem for that.
MiM: What plans do you have to promote this Album? Concerts or tours scheduled in this new year?
TA: We have a tour planned for April together with the Grailknights which will go for two weeks in the whole of Germany. Let's hope that it doesn't get canceled! Apart from that we also have two Festival gigs planned as well as two release shows for the new album in October.

TA: I will use this opportunity to say a big thank you to all our fans who keep listening to our music every day! This really keeps us motivated in continuing with our music. You can all be excited about our third album. It will be even better than the first two. Metal on!
