La banda francesa de Black/Doom Metal Ǥứŕū lanzó su álbum debut 'Nova Lvx' el 26 de mayo bajo el sello Sleeping Church Records. Excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con Jerry, uno de los miembros originales, vocalista y compositor, para descubrir todo sobre este álbum y la historia de la banda. MiM: ¡Hola, es un placer hablar contigo!

GR: ¡Hola! Soy Jerry, uno de los miembros originales de Ǥứŕū. ¡Es mi primera entrevista para una revista en español, así que es un doble placer!

MiM: ¿Cómo surgió la idea de formar la banda y de dónde proviene el nombre de la banda?

GR: Estaba buscando varias propuestas en internet para unirme a proyectos de metal como cantante. De hecho, tengo mi propia banda desde hace aproximadamente quince años y quería mejorar mis habilidades vocales. Encontré a dos guitarristas que intentaron durante un tiempo ponerse de acuerdo sobre un estilo de metal para tocar. Pero después de algunos riffs de death metal de la vieja escuela, decidí tomar la composición y hacer que las cosas avanzaran. No me gusta mucho el death metal, así que compuse cuatro temas de black/doom metal. Y después de algunos cambios en la formación, ¡aquí estamos!

MiM: "Nova Lvx" (Sleeping Church Records, 2023) es un álbum lleno de grandes sorpresas. Excelente sonido e impresionante trabajo musical y vocal. ¿Qué nos puedes contar sobre este álbum?

GR: Creé canciones largas para darme espacio para experimentar con la voz y progresar en los sentimientos que quería cantar. Grabé los cuatro temas como preproducción para darle a cada miembro una idea de la música final que imaginé. Luego cada uno grabó su parte instrumental. Las guitarras y el bajo fueron grabados por Anne-Laure y Rudy. Quentin grabó la batería en Darkened Studio, Nantes, con Nerik Hemery, quien también mezcló y masterizó el álbum.

MiM: ¡En "Nova Lvx" el trabajo de las voces es espectacular!

GR: Gracias. Sí, hice todas las voces. De hecho, creé esta banda para explorar diferentes tipos de voces. Me encanta cómo vocalistas como Attila Csihar o Mike Patton, por ejemplo, pueden agregar dimensiones espirituales a una canción exagerando con teatralidad vocal decadente.

MiM: ¿Crees que fue arriesgado trabajar en temas tan extensos? ¿Podría ser un impedimento para la promoción en programas de radio o podcasts?

GR: No creo que la experimentación sea un riesgo; no hay nada que perder y todo por lograr, como ganar habilidades o contar cosas que las palabras no pueden expresar.

MiM: Al escuchar el álbum siento una conexión entre todas las canciones. ¿"Nova Lvx" es un álbum conceptual? ¿De qué tratan las canciones líricamente hablando?

GR: En estas cuatro canciones imaginé ser un gurú o un profeta que les dice a las personas que se separen del resto de la humanidad... para contemplar su autodestrucción y seguir un camino purificador hacia el fin del mundo. Mientras "In the crimson smoke" y "Nova lvx" son sermones más directos, canciones como "Pilgrim" y "Bathed in sunlight" se centran más en los sentimientos interiores a través de esta búsqueda apocalíptica.

 MiM: ¿Los críticos especializados los definen como Black/Doom Metal. ¿Es así?

GR: Diría que sí, aunque no soy un gran seguidor del doom metal. Quiero decir... me gustan algunas canciones de Type O Negative o Reverend Bizarre, por ejemplo, pero estoy mucho más involucrado en la escena del black metal. Presentaría nuestra música como un black metal teatral, lo que significa una música intensamente emocional y grandilocuente. Para ser más precisos, hay partes de doom y rock'n'roll.

 MiM: ¿Qué planes tienen para promocionar este álbum?

GR: Por ahora no tenemos conciertos planeados, todavía estamos ensayando y elaborando una escenografía.

MiM: Por último, quería que te sientas libre de compartir algunas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores.

French Black/Doom Metal band Ǥứŕū will release their debut album "Nova Lvx" on May 26 under Sleeping Church Records. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with Jerry, one of the original members, singer, and songwriter, to find out everything about this album and the history of the band.

MiM: Hello, it is a pleasure to talk with you.

GR: Hello! I'm Jerry, one of the original members of Ǥứŕū. It's my first interview for a Spanish cine so it's a double pleasure!

MiM: How did the idea of forming the band come about and where did the name of the band come from?

GR: I was looking for various propositions on the internet to join metal projects as a singer. I've actually had my own band for approximately fifteen years now and I wanted to improve my vocal skills. I found two guitarists who tried for a while to agree on a metal style to play. But after a few old-school death metal riffs, I decided to take over the composition and get the ball rolling. I'm not really into death metal so I composed four black/doom tracks. And after a few line-up changes, here we are!

MiM: "Nova Lvx" (Sleeping Church Records, 2023) This is an album full of great surprises. Excellent sound and impressive musical and vocal work. What can you tell me about this album?

GR: I created long tracks to give me space for vocal experimentations and progression in the feelings I wanted to sing. I recorded all four tracks as pre-production to give every member an idea of the final music I imagined. Then everybody went to record their instrumental part. The guitars and bass were self-recorded by Anne-Laure and Rudy. Quentin recorded the drums at Darkened Studio, Nantes, with Nerik Hemery, who also mixed and mastered the album.

MiM: In "Nova Lvx" the work of the voices is spectacular!!

GR: Thanks. Yes, I did all the vocals. Actually, I created this band to explore various kinds of vocals. I love how vocalists like Attila Csihar or Mike Patton for example can add spiritual dimensions to a song by going overboard with decadent vocal theatrics.

MiM: Do you think it was risky to work on such extensive themes? Could this be an impediment to promotion on radio shows or podcasts?

GR: I don't think experimentation is ever a risk; there is nothing to lose and everything to achieve - like gaining skills or recounting things that words cannot.

MiM: Listening to the album I feel a connection between all the songs. "Nova Lvx" is a concept album? What are the songs about, lyrically speaking?

GR: On these four tracks I imagined being a guru or a prophet telling people to separate from the rest of humanity... to contemplate their self-destruction and to follow a purifying path towards the end of the world. When “In the crimson smoke” and “Nova lvx” are more directly-spoken sermons, songs like “Pilgrim” and “Bathed in sunlight” are more about interior feelings through this apocalyptic quest.

 MiM: Specialized critics define them as Black/Doom Metal. Is it so?

GR: I would say yes, even if I am not a huge doom-metal listener. I mean... I like some Type O Negative or Reverend Bizarre tracks for example, but I'm far more involved in the black metal scene. I would present our music as theatrical black metal, which means heavily emotional and grandiloquent music. To be more precise, there are doom and rock'n'roll parts.

 MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album?

GR: For now we have no concerts planned, we're still rehearsing and elaborating a scenography.

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our reader.

GR: I hope the album will be well-received by the extreme metal scene and I hope Ǥứŕū keeps being inspired for many years! Thanks to Made in Metal for this interview!
