"Cada vez que estoy en el escenario con Vixen tengo que pellizcarme"

Fundadas en 1980, Vixen son leyendas femeninas del Hard Rock norteamericano y llevan varios años en activo, dando conciertos sin parar. Made in Metal charla con Britt Lightning, la guitarrista, para conocer los próximos pasos de la banda.

MiM: Has sido parte de la formación de esta gran banda durante seis años. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de entrada a la banda? ¿Cómo fue la recepción por parte de los integrantes?

VX: El proceso fue genial, los fans son increíbles, fui recibido calurosamente en la banda y hago lo mejor que puedo para representar a Jan y honrar su legado lo mejor que puedo.

MiM: Britt, ¿cuál ha sido tu aprendizaje en todos estos años? ¿Qué ha significado para ti ser parte de estas leyendas?

VX: Cada vez que estoy en el escenario con Vixen tengo que pellizcarme. Cuando era niña, Vixen fue una de las pocas bandas de rock exclusivamente femeninas que me inspiraron y me mostraron que era posible ser una mujer en el rock n roll. No sólo todos en la banda son músicos increíbles, sino también personas increíbles que me motivan continuamente y a quienes estoy orgullosa de poder llamar hermanas.

MiM: ¿Cuándo podrán los fans de la banda escuchar material nuevo?

VX: ¡Tenemos un nuevo sencillo y vídeo musical que saldrá el 2 de octubre! ¡Estará disponible en todas partes en línea!

MiM: En una entrevista, el baterista de VIXEN, Roxy Petrucci, habló sobre el estado de la nueva música de la banda. Ella dijo (transcrito por Blabbermouth.net): "Vamos a lanzar un nuevo sencillo. Para finales del verano, tendremos un nuevo sencillo y vídeo. VX: Sí, creo que el legado de Vixen seguirá vivo como lo ha sido desde la primera encarnación de la banda en los años 70. El espíritu de Jan sigue con la banda impulsándola hacia adelante y continuamos inspirando y aportando energía positiva del rock 'n' roll en cada show. MiM: ¿Cómo fue trabajar con Alejandro Sanz y Alejandra Guzmán? ¿Alguna anécdota que recuerdes?

VX: Tanto Alejandro como Alejandra son personas súper logradas e increíbles. Su creatividad es infinita y trabajar con ambos fue un sueño. Estar de gira con Alejandro durante aproximadamente 3 años fue una de las experiencias más increíbles de toda mi vida que nunca olvidaré. Verlo emocionarse en el escenario y tocar con los increíbles músicos que componen su banda fue un sentimiento que nunca olvidaré, sentí escalofríos en cada actuación. Es un verdadero artista y lo da todo en cada espectáculo. Una cosa que siempre recordaré es que Alejandro quería que la banda probara un pimiento picante antes de uno de los shows. ¡Todos salieron al escenario llorando por la especia! ¡Él tiene un gran sentido del humor!

VX: Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp nació del deseo de brindarle al público la experiencia de vivir la vida de un Rock Star, con Rock Stars, durante unos días, y adquirir conocimientos en el camino. La idea se le ocurrió a David Fishof después de años de producir giras de rock por todo el mundo. Durante los últimos 25 años, hemos tenido invitados como Roger Daltrey, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Jerry Cantrell y muchos más. Founded in 1980, Vixen are female legends of North American Hard Rock and have been active for several years, giving concerts non-stop. Made in Metal chats with Britt Lightning, the guitarist, to learn about the band's next steps.

MiM: You have been part of the alienation of this great band for six years. How was the process of entering the alienation of the band? How was the reception by the members?

VX: The process was great, the fans are amazing, I was warmly welcomed into the band and I do my best to represent Jan and honor her legacy the best I can.

MiM: Britt, what have you been learning in all these years? What has it meant to you to be part of these legends?

VX: Every time I am on stage with Vixen I have to pinch myself. As a young girl, Vixen was one of the very few all-female rock bands out there that inspired me and showed me it was possible to be a female in rock n roll. Not only are everyone in the band incredible musicians, but also amazing people who continually motivate me and who I am proud I can call sisters.

MiM: When will the fans of the band be able to hear new material?

VX: We have a new single and music video coming out October 2! It will be available everywhere online!

MiM: In an interview, Vixen's drummer Roxy Petrucci spoke about the state of the band's new music. She said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth.net): "We're going to release a new single. By the end of the summer, we're going to have a new single and a new video. We're looking for the right opportunity to – you know, everything has to come together, the promotion and all that, and then we're going to release that asshole. It's pretty energetic. I think it's a good mix of the old 80s with the new 2023 VIXEN." What can you tell me about it?

VX: I agree with Roxy, I think the new single, “Red”, has the sentiment of classic Vixen with a modern touch.

MiM: There are many contemporary bands with Vixen that are finishing. Do you think there will still be Vixen for a long time? 

VX: Yes, I believe the legacy of Vixen will continue to live on as it has been since the first incarnation of the band in the ‘70s. Jan’s spirit is still with the band driving it forward and we continue to inspire and bring positive rock ’n’ roll energy at every show. I have also noticed more young teenagers in the crowds at every show, which is great for reaching a new audience.

MiM: How was working with Alejandro Sanz and Alejandra Guzman? Any anecdote that you remember?

VX: Both Alejandro and Alejandra are super accomplished and incredible people. Their creativity is endless and working with them both was a dream. Getting to tour with Alejandro for about 3 years was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life that I will never forget. Watching him emote on stage and playing with the incredible musicians that make up his band was a feeling I will never forget, I got chills at every performance. He is a true artist and gives it all he has every single show. One thing I will always remember is Alejandro wanted the band to try a ghost pepper before one of the shows. Everyone went out onto the stage in tears from the spice! He has a great sense of humor! 

VX: Rock ’n' Roll Fantasy Camp was born out of the desire to give the public the experience of living the life of a Rock Star, with Rock Stars, for a few days, and gaining their knowledge along the way. The idea came to David Fishof after years of producing rock tours throughout the world. Over the past 25 years, we have had guests ranging from Roger Daltrey, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Jerry Cantrell and many more. I am the Musical Director and also a counselor at the camps and additionally hosted over 160 online master classes with rock stars during covid. Our next Rock Camp is Metal Mania III where campers will learn from and jam with Zakk Wylde (Ozzy, BLS, Pantera), Marty Friedman (formerly of Megadeth) and Mike Portnoy (formerly of Dream Theater). MiM: What are Vixen's next concerts or tours for the rest of the year?

VX: We are winding down after a very busy summer of touring. We have two shows left on the books before the end of the year, one in Kansas for ’80’s Rock Invasion along with our good friends Stephen Pearcy, Great White, and Slaughter, and one at the Life After Death Horror Festival in Mexico City with Lacuna Coil, Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, and many others.
