Sus fans tuvieron que esperar seis largos años para la llegada de un nuevo álbum del grupo estadounidense de metal Prong, no solo por la pandemia con sus innumerables incertidumbres y conmociones, sino también por una serie de agradables acontecimientos en la vida privada del cantante. -guitarrista Tommy Victor. Pero ahora Prong está de regreso con fuerza: su último lanzamiento "State Of Emergency" sale el 6 de octubre en el prestigioso sello discográfico Steamhammer/SPV. MiM: “State Of Emergency” (Steamhammer/SPV 2023) cuenta con un sonido espectacular. Es un disco muy fuerte. Un riff de guitarra cortante y aplastante. ¡¡Excelente!! ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este álbum?

PR: Steve Evetts lo produjo. Trabajó con Prong antes. (En “Carved Into Stone” y “Ruining Lives”). El gran sonido tiene mucho que ver con él. Creo que trazamos bien todo el proceso. Me decidí por él. Fue un tiempo de unos meses para escribir las canciones y hacer una demostración. Luego hicimos una preproducción de 4 días. Luego grabamos. Steve lo mezcló. Arthur Rizk lo masterizó. Así que comencé en junio de 2022 y terminé en noviembre.   Esperamos para comenzar el disco después de que me mudé de regreso a Nueva York y me instalé. Escribí todas las canciones yo mismo en el apartamento de mi familia. Hice todo el trabajo mientras mi hijo estaba en la guardería. El disco fue grabado y mezclado en Nueva Jersey. en el estudio de Steve Evetts.

PR: Dado que Prong es un grupo clásico, creo que las principales influencias son los discos anteriores. También hay un poco de riffs de tipo metal industrial en el disco. También hay algunas cosas de estilo alternativo. Al componer, documento los riffs "A" que encontré. combinarlos con algunos "B". Los "C" se tiran a la basura. MiM: Incluido en este álbum está la portada del tema de Rush "Working Man". Al parecer no hay conexión musical entre Rush y Prong. ¿Cómo surgió la idea?

 PR: Por un lado, somos un trío. Además, yo era fanático de Rush cuando era niño. El riff de "Working Man" es un clásico. La letra era algo consistente con el tema de una persona frustrada como en la canción inicial. “The Descent” Por lo tanto, el chico frustrado de la canción de cierre felicita al chico de la canción de apertura.

MiM: En este disco la guitarra tiene una presencia importante.

PR: Por supuesto. Es totalmente un disco de guitarra. Traté de darle lo mejor que pude con riffs geniales en la tradición de Prong.

MiM: Sois una banda con varios años de formación con discos y muchos conciertos en su carrera, mirando hacia atrás, ¿cómo valorarías el trabajo de la banda todos estos años?

 PR: No creo que haya sido tan bueno como podría haber sido. Sin embargo, no sabíamos nada mejor. Realmente nadie nos ayudó mucho con el show en vivo. Además, fuimos aprendiendo a medida que avanzábamos. Siempre ha sido una lucha. ; nunca es fácil. Creo que los espectáculos han sido mejores en los últimos años. Ojalá fuéramos más grandes y tuviéramos más dinero para invertir en el espectáculo. En lo que respecta a los discos, hemos tenido algunos buenos discos que "cambiaron las reglas del juego". "Cleansing" fue un éxito. Algunos discos no tuvieron tanto éxito. Algunos fueron mal producidos. Creo que hubo una buena racha de discos. Creo que esto El nuevo es fuerte. Intento aprender de mis errores. Nunca nada es perfecto. Estoy contento con la forma en que salió este. No estoy seguro de qué tan bien será recibido. No estoy seguro de cuán notado será. His fans had to wait six long years for the arrival of a new album from the American Metal group Prong. Not only because of the pandemic with its countless uncertainties and upheavals but also because of a series of pleasant events in the private life of singer-guitarist Tommy Victor. But now Prong is back with a bang: his latest release "State Of Emergency" is on October 6th on the prestigious Steamhammer/SPV record label. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with the band to find out everything about this new release.

MiM: “State Of Emergency” (Steamhammer/SPV 2023) boasts a smashing sound. It is a very strong disc. Cutting and crushing guitar riff. Excellent!! What can you tell me about this album? 

PR: Steve Evetts produced it. He worked with Prong before. (On “Carved Into Stone” and “ Ruining Lives”)The excellent sound has a lot to do with him. We mapped out the whole process well I think. I settled on a time of a few months to write the songs and make a demo. Then we did 4 days of preproduction. Then we recorded. Steve Mixed it. Arthur Rizk mastered it. So I started in June 2022 and it was finished in November.   We waited to start the record after I moved back to New York and settled in. I wrote all the songs myself in my family’s apt. I did all the work while my son was in daycare. The record was recorded and mixed over in New Jersey at Steve Evetts’ studio.

PR: Since Prong is a legacy group, I think the main influences are the preceding records. There’s a bit of industrial metal-type riffs on the record too. There’s some alternative style stuff too. When composing I document the “A” riffs I came up with them match them with some “B“ ones. The “C” ones get tossed in the trash. Writing bs knob NY had a bit of influence too. The lousy rainy weather for the most part. Being back, close to where I grew up had a bit of influence as well.

MiM: This album includes the cover of Rush's theme "Working Man". Apparently, there is no musical connection between Rush and Prong. How did the idea come about?

PR: We will be a trio for one thing. Moreover, I was a fan of Rush growing up. The “Working Man” riff is a classic. The lyric was somewhat consistent with the theme of a frustrated person like in the opening track “The Descent”. Therefore, the frustrated guy in the closing song compliments the guy in the opening song.

MiM: In this album, the guitar has an important presence. 

PR: Of course. It’s totally a guitar-driven record. I tried to give it my best shot with cool riffs in the Prong tradition. 

MiM: You are a band with several years of training with records and many concerts in their career. Looking back, how would you rate the work of the band all these years?

PR: I don't think it was as good as it could have been. However, we did not know any better. No one really helped us with the live show much. Moreover, we were learning as we went along. It’s always been a struggle; it’s never easy. The shows have been better in recent years I think. I wish we were bigger and had more money to put into the show.  As far as the records go, we have had some nice “game-changing “records. “Cleansing” was a success. Some records were not as successful. Some were poorly produced. I think there was a good run of records. I think this new one is strong. I try to learn from my mistakes. Nothing is ever perfect. I am happy with the way this one came out. I am not sure about how well received it will be. I’m not sure how noticed it will be. There is simply so much out there. You can get lost in the shuffle .it’s still worth it. I contribute to the legacy.

MiM: Once the album is available to all the fans of the band, what plans do you have to promote it? 

PR: We’re doing one local show.  We are touring Europe in November with Life Of Agony, then maybe a tour in America next year.
