"Si hay algo que define a esta banda es su eclecticismo"

El grupo madrileño de Heavy/Power Metal Ankhara lanzará su nuevo álbum “De Aquí a La Eternidad”, que cuenta con colaboraciones de artistas internacionales. Art Gates Records lo editará el 20 de octubre. Made in Metal conversa con el guitarrista Ceci Sánchez, para hablar de este y otros temas.

MiM: “De Aquí a La Eternidad” (Art Gates Records, 2023) es un regalo para todos los fans de la banda y para los amantes del Heavy Metal. Sonido fuerte, riffs de guitarras cortantes y rápidas con una base de bajo y batería poderosa. ¿Qué me pueden contar de este álbum? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción? 

CS: El proceso fue bastante rápido. Compusimos una serie de temas en muy poco tiempo y seleccionamos los que se integran en el EP, siendo en el último momento, casi, cuando decidimos incluir la versión de Fight. En cuanto a la grabación, también fue todo bastante rápido, ya que llevábamos las canciones muy cerradas y no hubo casi modificaciones significativas. La grabación se llevó a cabo en los estudios The Mixtery a cargo de Raúl Abellán y la producción a cargo de Alberto de nuevo. Con respecto al sonido quisimos continuar con una producción dura y contundente, algo más afilada, tal vez, que en el trabajo anterior (“Premonición”).

MiM: "Into The Pit", versión del mítico tema de Rob Halford y su banda Fight, que formó cuando se separó de Judas Priest, es todo un puñetazo en la cara, duro, contundente y agresivo. ¿Cómo surgió la idea?

CS: Siempre nos gustó ese álbum, creo que es una gran obra en su totalidad, sin embargo, decidimos elegir este tema porque es muy potente y directo, características que buscábamos para definir la tónica general de este trabajo, y además pensamos que podría quedar muy bien con la voz de Pacho, como así fue finalmente.

MiM: El EP abre con la pista “Tu verdad”, colaboración con la leyenda del Power Metal Ralf Scheepers, el cual de manera sorprendente canta en español. ¿Cómo surgió la idea? 

CS: Pues lo cierto es que nunca nos planteamos inicialmente que fuera a cantar en castellano. Valoramos su colaboración para una versión que queríamos incluir, y que iba en inglés, pero luego opinamos que podría ser muy curioso escuchar la voz de Ralf en castellano, ya que sabíamos que él hablaba un poco nuestro idioma, y lo cierto es que ha funcionado genial. 

MiM: “Soy el fuego” es el cuarto tema y he aquí la segunda colaboración, la de Andy Laroque. Composición agresiva, con excelentes melodías y el plus de Andy hace que el tema brille por sí solo. Una vez más, ¿cómo surgió la idea? 

CS: Personalmente, es uno de mis guitarristas favoritos de heavy desde que era un crío, siempre he admirado sus solos y sus riffs, y cuando Alberto comentó que él tenía cierto contacto con Andy surgió la idea. Es un privilegio poder solear junto a uno de tus ídolos, son cosas que no se pueden explicar muy bien con palabras, pero ahí está ese pedazo de solo de Andy.

MiM: El sonido de la banda navega entre el Power Metal y Heavy Metal. ¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias? ¿Cómo tratáis de incluir elementos personales a la hora de la creación musical?

CS: Todos tenemos muchas y muy diversas influencias. Aunque personalmente no creo que específicamente se trasluzca ninguna en concreto, sí pienso que hay algo que resulta de esa diversidad de estilos musicales que todos escuchamos y que de alguna manera se integra en nuestro propio sonido, en nuestros temas, aportando el carácter que queremos darles.

MiM: Ankhara es una banda con varios años establecidos en el tan difícil mundo de la industria musical. ¿Cuál sería el consejo que estarían dispuestos a darles a las nuevas generaciones de músicos que apenas acaban de comenzar este a camino de la música?

CS: Que trabajen duro, que no traten de imitar a nadie y que desarrollen su propio potencial y su propia personalidad, esto no garantiza el éxito, y mucho menos en nuestros días, pero al menos serán ellos mismos.

MiM: Son una banda con varios años de formados, con discos y muchos conciertos en su carrera. Mirando atrás, ¿cómo calificarían el trabajo de la banda todos estos años?

CS: Creo que si hay algo que define a esta banda es su eclecticismo. En mi opinión, opino que lo mejor que tiene Ankhara es que con los años todos fuimos evolucionando en nuestra carrera musical. Cada disco es muy diferente al anterior, aunque siempre tiene nuestro sonido, hagamos lo que hagamos, considero que eso es lo que hemos logrado como banda en todos estos años, y pienso que es algo genial, sonar a ti.

MiM: ¿Una vez que el disco esté disponible para todos los fans de la banda que planes tienes para promocionarlo? 

CS: Nuestra oficina lleva ya algún tiempo trabajando en las primeras fechas del próximo año y la idea es tocar todo lo que se pueda. Además, tenemos preparada una gira muy especial.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libre para compartir unas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores.

CS: Muchas gracias a toda la gente que apoya el rock y el heavy metal en general y a Ankhara en particular. Nos vemos ahí fuera.

The Madrid Heavy/Power Metal group Ankhara will release their new album “De Aqui a La Eternidad”, which features collaborations with international artists. Art Gates Records will release it on October 20. Made in Metal talks with guitarist Ceci Sánchez to talk about this and other topics.

MiM: “From Here to Eternity” (Art Gates Records, 2023) is a gift for all fans of the band and for lovers of heavy metal. Strong sound, cutting, and fast guitar riffs with a base of bass and powerful drums. What can you tell me about this album? What was the recording and production process like?

CS: The process was pretty quick. We composed a series of songs in a very short time and selected the ones that make up the EP, almost at the last moment, when we decided to include the Fight version. As for the recording, everything was also quite fast, since we had the songs very tight and there were almost no significant modifications. The recording took place at The Mixtery studios by Raúl Abellán and the production was again by Alberto. Regarding the sound, we wanted to continue with a hard and forceful production, perhaps somewhat sharper than in the previous work (“Premonición”).

MiM: “Into The Pit”, a version of the legendary song by Rob Halford and his band Fight, which he formed when he separated from Judas Priest, is a real punch in the face, hard, forceful, and aggressive. How did the idea come about?

CS: We always liked that album; I think it is a great work in its entirety. However, we decided to choose this song because it is powerful and direct, characteristics that we were looking for to define the general tone of this work. We also thought that it could go very well with Pacho's voice, as it finally did.

CS: Well, the truth is that we never initially considered that I would sing in Spanish. We valued his collaboration on the version that we wanted to include, and that was in English. Then we thought that it could be very curious to hear Ralf's voice in Spanish, since we knew that he spoke our language a little, and the truth is that it has worked brilliantly.

MiM: “Soy el fuego” is the fourth song, and here is the second collaboration, that of Andy Laroque. Aggressive composition, excellent melodies, and the addition of Andy make the song shine on its own. Again, how did the idea come about?

CS: Personally, he has been one of my favorite heavy guitarists since I was a kid. I have always admired his solos and his riffs, and when Alberto commented that he had some contact with Andy, the idea arose. It is a privilege to be able to sunbathe with one of your idols; these are things that cannot be explained very well in words, but there is that piece of Andy's solo.

CS: We all have many and very diverse influences. Although personally, I don't think that any specific one specifically comes through, I do think that there is something that results from that diversity of musical styles that we all listen to and that in some way is integrated into our sound, into our songs, providing the character that we want to give them.

MiM: Ankhara is a band with several years of experience in the difficult world of the music industry. What advice would you be willing to give to new generations of musicians who have just begun their journey into music?

CS: That they work hard, that they do not try to imitate anyone, and that they develop their own potential and their personality. This does not guarantee success, much less in our days, but at least they will be themselves.

CS: I think if there is something that defines this band, it is its eclecticism. In my opinion, the best thing about Ankhara is that, over the years, we all evolved in our musical careers. Each album is very different from the previous one, although it always has our sound. Whatever we do, I consider that that is what we have achieved as a band in all these years, and I think it is something great, sounding like you.

MiM: Once the album is available to all the band's fans, what plans do you have to promote it?

CS: Our office has been working on the first dates of next year for some time now, and the idea is to play as much as possible. In addition, we have a very special tour prepared.
