Unblessed Divine, la banda con sede en Polonia y Sudáfrica que incluye a ex miembros de las legendarias bandas de metal Malevolent Creation, Sinister y Decapitated, lanzó su álbum debut 'Portal to Darkness' el 18 de agosto con Masacre Records. Excelente oportunidad para que Made in Metal converse con el guitarrista y sintetizador Michael Grall, para conocer todo sobre este disco y la banda.

MiM: Unblessed Divine es una banda de nueva creación formada por músicos experimentados de la escena Extreme Metal. ¿Cómo surgió la idea de formar la banda? ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre de la banda?  

 Michal Grall: Tal como escribiste, somos nuevos en la escena, pero tocamos en bandas como Sinister, Malevolent Creation y muchas más, así que somos Death Metallers experimentados jaja. Formar esta banda fue casi accidental. Ya éramos amigos de Lee, ya que hizo un diseño increíble para las camisetas de Sinister. Un día vi su publicación en Facebook, que busca teclista, pero en Sudáfrica. Le envié un mensaje diciéndole que, si no encontraba a nadie cerca, simplemente lo ayudaría y le arreglaría esas partes. Y hombre, esto funcionó tan bien, que tres años después de eso, ambos somos los autores intelectuales de Unblessed Divine, hacemos toda la música, las partes vocales y las claves juntas para obtener resultados tan geniales como los que puedes escuchar en "Portal To Darkness", las canciones individuales de "Book Of Lies" y me alimento. Además, nos hicimos amigos en la vida cotidiana y eso también nos ayuda a componer, ya que podemos confiar en nosotros mismos y encontrar sólo las mejores soluciones sonoras. El nombre corresponde al concepto lírico y visual. Esta música va exclusivamente en contra de quedar atrapado en la religión y anima a tomar decisiones propias, sin la ayuda de ningún dios.

MiM: "Portal to Darkness" (Masacre Records, 2023) es un álbum con un sonido crudo y sólido, con una mezcla del sonido moderno y electrónico de bandas contemporáneas. ¿Qué puedes contarme sobre este disco? ¿Quién estuvo a cargo de la producción?

Michal Grall: Tuvimos suerte de encontrar a ZED, nuestro productor, que casi al instante entendió cómo debía sonar este álbum. Y sí, dado que crecimos con los hitos del Metal de los 90 como Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vader, etc., queríamos rendir homenaje a esos tiempos, pero con la identidad de Unblessed Divine y lo logramos. Lo que diferencia a Unblessed Divine es un suave toque de electrónica, pero de una manera para enfatizar la oscuridad en nuestra música y no para hacerla orquestal. Hombre, estoy súper feliz con este álbum y no cambiaría nada, incluso después de muchos meses después de su masterización final.

MiM: "I feed" es evidentemente una declaración de la banda contra el adoctrinamiento que la gente sufre a diario por parte de la iglesia. ¿Es tan? ¿Cuéntame sobre eso?

Michal Grall: Sí, tienes un 666% de razón en esto. Más aún, es el hecho de que estamos en 2023 y la gente todavía necesita elegir a Dios para satisfacer sus debilidades. Pero eso no es lo peor. Digamos que es elección de todos, pero la iglesia y el catolicismo todavía tienen tanto poder, que es increíble (¡sic!) que la humanidad realmente esté de acuerdo en eso. Es genial tener tus propias virtudes. Todos pueden elegir fácilmente entre el bien y el mal en la rutina diaria; aun así, la iglesia sigue cobrando su precio en las sociedades y teniendo un impacto masivo en personas de todo el mundo. ¿Te imaginas que en el siglo XXI se formen grupos para cancelar conciertos por culpa del satanismo? La gente todavía no se había dado cuenta de que el satanismo no se trata de rituales y ofrendas de vírgenes.

MiM: "The Book of Lies" es una canción con una marcada influencia del Death Metal de los 90 y de la misma manera con un mensaje directo y claro. ¿Cómo lo ves?

Michal Grall: Como arriba, el concepto detrás de todo el álbum es elegir tu vida y tu voluntad por encima de las tonterías religiosas. Naturalmente, "Book Of Lies" es obviamente una metáfora de la Biblia, pero para profundizar más, nuevamente alienta a cada entidad a tener su propia vida. ¿Qué puedo decir? No hay dios ni Dios ni nada parecido. De eso se trata la MENTIRA.

MiM: Me gustaría saber si desde el principio tienen un sonido muy claro que tiene la banda.

Michal Grall: Sí, Unblessed Divine se formó para tocar Death Metal oscuro y brutal, con la ideología mencionada anteriormente. Nuestro EP debut ya tenía la misma vibra, aunque no sonó tan increíble como el álbum. Incluso elegimos una canción del EP (The Exalted One) para incluirla en "Portal To Darkness". Eso demuestra claramente, que somos totalmente conscientes de lo que hacemos y queremos hacer. ¡La Divina Bendita permanecerá oscura como el infierno!

MiM: ¿Unblessed Divine es un proyecto efímero o una banda consolidada en la escena del metal?

Michal Grall: Es una banda que editará discos, tocará en vivo y estará en escena. Ya ensayamos para próximos shows. Lee y yo somos los creadores de la idea de Unblessed Divine e hicimos toda la música, pero no queremos limitarnos a lanzar un solo álbum. Portal To Darkness y las nuevas canciones serán una maravilla en el escenario.

MiM: ¿Qué planos tienen para promocionar este disco?

Michal Grall: Sí, queremos dar conciertos tan pronto como toda la banda, incluidos los miembros nuevos y en vivo, esté lista. Queremos que Unblessed Divine demuestre ser algo único y estoy seguro de que podemos lograrlo. No puedo decir mucho más, ya que comenzamos a programar fechas después del estreno del álbum, pero queremos traer oscuridad a todo el mundo.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que te sintieras libre de compartir algunas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores.

Unblessed Divine, the Polish/South African based band featuring former members of legendary Metal bands Malevolent Creation, Sinister and Decapitated, will release their debut album "Portal to Darkness" on August 18th on Masacre Records. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to the guitar and synth player Michael Grall, to learn everything about this album and the history of the band.

MiM: Unblessed Divine is a newly created band made up of experienced musicians from the Extreme Metal scene. How did the idea of forming the band come about? What is the concept behind the name of the band?

Michal Grall: Just as you wrote, we are new on the scene, but we played in such bands as Sinister, Malevolent Creation and many more, so we are experienced Death Metallers haha. Forming this band was almost accidental. We were already friends with Lee, since he made an amazing design for Sinister t-shirts. One day, I saw his FB post, that he is seeking a keyboard player, but in South Africa. I messaged him, that if he cant find anyone around, then I will just help him and arrange those parts for him. And man, this worked so well, that three years after that we were both masterminds of Unblessed Divine, making all music, vocal parts, and keys together so it forms such great results as you can hear on Portal To Darkness and single songs "Book Of Lies" and "I Feed". Moreover, we became friends in everyday life and that also helps us compose since we can rely on ourselves and find only the best-sounding solutions. The name corresponds to a lyrical and visual concept. This music is purely against being trapped in religion and encourages one to make own decisions, without any gods help.

MiM: "Portal to Darkness" (Masacre Records, 2023) is an album with a raw and solid sound, with a mix of the modern and electronic sound of contemporary bands. What can you tell me about this record? Who was in charge of the production?

Michal Grall: We were lucky to find ZED, our producer, who almost instantly understood what this album should sound like. And yeah, since we grew on Metal milestones of the 90s like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vader etc, we wanted to pay homage to those times, but with Unblessed Divine’s identity and we made it. What differs Unblessed Divine is a soft touch of electronics, but in a way to emphasize darkness in our music and not make it orchestral. Man, I am super happy with this album and wouldn't change anything, even many months after its final master. 

MiM: "I feed" is evidently a statement by the band against the indoctrination that people suffer daily from the church. Is it so? Tell me about it?

Michal Grall: Yeah, you are 666% right on this. More to that is the fact, that it is 2023 and people still need to choose god, to satisfy their weaknesses. But, that is not the worst. Let’s say it is everybody’s choice, but church and catholicism has still so much power, that it is unbelievable (sic!) that humanity actually agrees on that. It is great to have your own virtues. Everyone can easily choose between good and bad in daily routine, but still church is still taking it’s toll in societies, having a massive impact on people around the globe. Can you imagine, that in 21 century, groups are formed to cancel concerts, because of Satanism? People still didn't notice that Satanism is not about rituals and virgin offerings. 

MiM: "The Book of Lies" is a song with a marked influence of the Death Metal of the 90s and in the same way with a direct and clear message. How do you see it?

Michal Grall: As above, the concept behind the whole album is to choose your life and will over religious bullshit. Naturally, "Book Of Lies" is obviously a metaphor for the bible, but to dig deeper, it again encourages every entity, to have their own life. What can I say – there is no god or God or whatever. That is what LIES is all about. 

MiM: I would like to know if from the beginning they have a very clear sound that the band has?

Michal Grall: Yes, Unblessed Divine was formed to play dark and Brutal Death Metal, with ideology as stated earlier. Our debut EP already had the same vibe, tho it didn't sound as amazing as the album does. We even chose one song from the EP (The Exalted One), to have it included on Portal To Darkness. That clearly shows, that we are totally aware of what we do and want to do. Unblessed Divine will remain dark as hell!

MiM: Is Unblessed Divine a temporary project or a consolidated band in the metal scene?

Michal Grall: It is a band that will release albums, play live and be on the scene. We already rehearse for upcoming shows. Me and Lee are the creators of the Unblessed Divine idea and we made all the music, but we don't want to stop on just releasing one album. Portal To Darkness and new songs will be a blast on stage. 

MiM: What planes do they have to promote this album? 

Michal Grall: Yeah man, we want to play gigs as soon as the whole band including new and live members are ready. We want Unblessed shows to be something unique and I am sure that we can achieve that. Can't say much more since we start scheduling dates after the album premiere, but we want to bring darkness all over the globe.

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers.

Michal Grall: Thanks for your support since this interview was quite a lot about ideology – then do your own job, and stay back from religion, everyone can make their own choices, we don’t need others telling us what to do. And thanks for the huge support and only the great reviews we had after our new videos. We find them amazing, so we are glad you like them too. We will gratify that with stunning shows and we want to see you there!
