"Se está escribiendo y grabando nueva música, ¡mantén tus ojos y oídos abiertos!"
La banda internacional de Death Metal afincada en Suecia, Frantic Amber es una de las más interesantes del circuito internacional de Death Metal. Teniendo en cuenta que esta semana la banda tocará en Barcelona, Made in Metal charla con la pelirroja guitarrista Isabelle Romhagen para hablar de la banda desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad
MiM: Por favor, Isabelle, cuéntanos sobre los inicios de la banda.
IR: La banda comenzó en Estocolmo, Suecia, como una idea para un proyecto de la guitarrista Maria Säfstrand, que quería tocar música más pesada con otras mujeres. Probó diferentes géneros y miembros antes de decidirse por el death metal melódico con la formación original. Frantic Amber llegó a los escenarios casi de inmediato y comenzaron su viaje juntas.
MiM: ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre Frantic Amber?
IR: Frantic y Amber son dos palabras que representan las partes más brutales y ásperas de nuestra música junto con las partes más melódicas y suaves. Se trata de los contrastes y la dinámica.
MiM: El Death Metal parece estar pasando por una muy buena etapa en cuanto a calidad y cantidad de bandas y lanzamientos. ¿A qué crees que se debe esto? ¿Qué bandas estás escuchando últimamente?
RI: ¡Sí, definitivamente! No estoy seguro, pero Internet podría haber jugado un papel. Hoy en día es muy fácil lanzar música en línea y encontrar bandas en todo el mundo para inspirarse. Las bandas que escucho con frecuencia son Be'lakor, Oceans of Slumber, Opeth, Gojira, Archspire, Septic Flesh, Suffocation...
MiM: El último álbum de la banda “Bellatrix” (GMR Music Group, 2019) es un excelente disco que tiene excelentes críticas. ¿Qué me puedes decir de este álbum?
IR: ¡Gracias, me alegra saber que te gusta! “Bellatrix” es un homenaje a las mujeres guerreras de diferentes culturas a lo largo de la historia. Se invirtió mucho pensamiento y esfuerzo en hacer que el sonido y la atmósfera de las canciones reflejaran la cultura en la que se encuentran. Las guitarras, el bajo y las voces se grabaron en nuestro propio Raventone Studio, la batería en Mikael Wikman Drum Studio. El álbum fue mezclado y masterizado por Daniel Bergstrand. Después de que se inició la grabación, la computadora se estropeó y el material grabado se perdió, así que tuvimos que empezar de nuevo.
MiM: “Scorched Earth” es una canción poderosa, con un sonido aplastante, guitarras cortantes como cuchillos y una base muy fuerte de bajo y batería. ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este tema?
IR: Ya había algunos riffs brutales, así que lo combinamos con la feroz historia de Boudicca, la reina celta que reunió un ejército y quemó tres ciudades como venganza contra los romanos por traicionarla y azotar y violar a sus hijas.
MiM: A nivel musical, a la hora de construir música. ¿Cuáles son sus referencias?
IR: Siempre buscamos desarrollar nuestro sonido y evolucionar como compositores y músicos. Nos inspiramos mucho en diferentes bandas de metal, desde brutal death hasta death metal sinfónico y melódico, mira las bandas enumeradas anteriormente.
MiM: Han pasado varios años desde que salió el último álbum de la banda. ¿Planean lanzar un nuevo álbum este año?
IR: Mientras hablamos, se está escribiendo y grabando nueva música, ¡mantén tus ojos y oídos abiertos! Mientras tanto, recientemente lanzamos dos sencillos del próximo álbum que puedes ver, 'Angel Maker' y 'Bloodbath'.
MiM: ¿Cómo es un concierto de Frantic Amber? Como banda, cuando tocan en vivo, ¿qué ofrecen a los fanáticos y al público en general?
IR: ¡Siempre damos el 100% en el escenario! ¡Hay mucha pasión por la música que interpretamos y esperamos que se muestre también en nuestras presentaciones en vivo!
MiM: ¿Proyecto de gira o conciertos este año?
IR: El próximo es el festival BAM en Barcelona el 24 de septiembre. Tenemos algunos planes de gira para fin de año que se anunciarán en breve, ¡estén atentos a nuestras redes sociales para obtener actualizaciones sobre esto!

The international Death Metal band settled down in Sweden, Frantic Amber is one of the most interesting on the international Death Metal circuit. Taking account this week the band will play in Barcelona, Made in Metal chats with the redhead guitar player Isabelle Romhagen to speak about the band from the beginning to today.
MiM: Please Isabelle, tell us about the beginnings of the band?
IR: The band started in Stockholm, Sweden as an idea for a project by guitarist Maria Säfstrand who wanted to play heavier music with other women. She tried different genres and band members before settling on melodic death metal with the original lineup. Frantic Amber hit the stages almost immediately and started their journey together.
MiM: What is the concept behind the name Frantic Amber?
IR: Frantic and Amber are two words representing the more brutal and harsh parts of our music along with the more melodically and mellow parts. It’s all about the contrasts and dynamics.
MiM: Death Metal seems to be going through a very good stage in terms of the quality and quantity of bands and releases. What do you think this is due to? What bands are you listening to lately?
IR: Yes, definitely! Not sure, but the Internet might have played a role. Nowadays it’s so easy to release music online and find bands worldwide to get inspired from. Bands frequently being played are Be’lakor, Oceans of Slumber, Opeth, Gojira, Archspire, Septic Flesh, Suffocation...
MiM: The latest album from the band “Bellatrix” (GMR Music Group, 2019) is an excellent album that has excellent reviews. What can you tell me about this album?
IR: Thank you, glad to hear you like it! “Bellatrix” is a tribute to warrior women from different cultures throughout history. A lot of thought and effort was put into making the songs’ sound and atmosphere reflect the culture they are set in. Guitars, bass, and vocals were recorded in our own Raventone Studio, and drums in Mikael Wikman Drum Studio. The album was mixed and mastered by Daniel Bergstrand. After the recording was started, the computer broke down and the recorded material was lost, so we had to start over...
MiM: “Scorched Earth” is a powerful song, with crushing sound, guitars cutting like knives, and a solid base of bass and drums. What can you tell me about this topic?
IR: There were already some brutal riffs, so we matched it with the brutal story of Boudicca, the Celtic queen who assembled an army and burned down three cities as revenge on the Romans for betraying her and flogging and raping her daughters.
MiM: On a musical level, when building music. What are your references?
IR: We are always looking to develop our sound and evolve as songwriters and musicians. We take a lot of inspiration from different metal bands, from brutal death to symphonic and melodic death metal, see bands listed above.
MiM: It's been several years since the band's last album came out. Do you plan to release a new album this year?
IR: New music is being written and recorded as we speak, keep your eyes and ears open! Meanwhile, we recently released two singles from the upcoming album that you can check out, ‘Angel Maker’ and ‘Bloodbath’.
MiM: What is a Frantic Amber concert like? As a band, when you perform live, what do you offer to the fans and the general public?
IR: We always give 100% on stage! There’s a lot of passion for the music that we perform and we hope that it shows in our live performances as well!
MiM: Tour project or concerts this year?
IR: Next up is the BAM festival in Barcelona on September 24th. We have some tour plans for the end of the year that will be announced shortly, stay tuned on our social media outlets for updates on this!
