El cantante, guitarrista y productor alemán Michael Voss ha anunciado el lanzamiento de su próximo álbum, 'Rockers Rollin' (A Tribute To Rick Parfitt)', un homenaje a la leyenda de la música Rick Parfitt de Status Quo. Este álbum saldrá el 13 de octubre a través de Massacre Records. Made in Metal habla con Michael para saber todo sobre este álbum.
MiM: Michael, siempre has sido fan de Status Quo. ¿Dónde fue la primera vez que los viste jugar?
MV: Hola Raúl. Un gusto conocerte aquí. Sí, la primera vez que vi a Status Quo fue en 1980 en mi ciudad natal, Münster, tocando en Halle Münsterland. Este fue el primer espectáculo de rock real al que asistí y quedé impresionado cuando Rick entró al escenario por la izquierda y tocó el riff de introducción de “Caroline”, como un martillazo de vapor, y de repente me volví adicto. De pie en la primera fila mirando directamente a la cara de Rick, observando y disfrutando cada minuto del espectáculo. Tenía 15 años y muchas ganas de tocar la guitarra y cantar. Este concierto encendió mis sueños de convertirme en músico de rock y a partir de ahí quedó sellado mi destino. Comprar todos los álbumes de Quo allí y tocar todas sus canciones en mi primera banda me hizo aprender y comprender la melodía y el ritmo. Tocar lo más ajustado posible y escribir melodías pegadizas.
MiM: “Rockers Rollin' (A Tribute To Rick Parfitt)” (Massacre Records, 2023) es un álbum con un sonido potente, con riffs de guitarra melodiosos y rítmicos. ¿Quién estuvo a cargo de la producción? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción?
MV: Produje el álbum por mi cuenta. Para mí era muy importante capturar el espíritu de las canciones de Rick y revivirlas y transportarlas al 2023... sin mucha sobreproducción. Una guitarra dejó a la otra en el lado derecho... y luego, rockeemos. Sólo instrumentos reales, no ordenadores, debe haber sido hecho a mano.
MiM: Hace aproximadamente un mes, se publicaron en diferentes medios algunas fotos suyas con Axl Roses en los estudios Metrópolis de Londres, Reino Unido y junto a los guitarristas Michael Schenker y Slash en los Estudios 301 de Frankfurt, Alemania. ¿Alguna colaboración con estos talentosos músicos?
MV: Bueno, nunca se sabe. También es información nueva y no puedo contar nada al respecto en detalle. Sí, nos reunimos allí y grabamos algo de música. Eso es todo lo que puedo decir ahora en este momento.
MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar estos dos relanzamientos?
MV: Me centraré ahora en el álbum tributo a Parfitt, donde pronto afrontaremos el lanzamiento del segundo vídeo, llamado “Don´t drive my car”, con la ayuda de mis amigos Herman Rarebell, Andy Susemihl, Uwe Köhler y Axel Urban. Aprovecharemos la oportunidad y queremos jugar allí también en 2024. Veamos adónde puede llevar este camino. Realmente disfruté la realización de este álbum y quiero agradecer a todos los músicos participantes que hicieron realidad este sueño.

German singer, guitarist, and producer Michael Voss has announced the release of his upcoming album, 'Rockers Rollin' (A Tribute To Rick Parfitt)', a tribute to music legend Rick Parfitt of Status Quo. This album will be out on October 13th via Massacre Records. Made in Metal talks to Michael to find out everything about this album.
MiM: Michael, you have always been a fan of Status Quo. Where was the first time you saw them play?
MV: Hi Raul. Nice to meet you here. Yes, I first happened to see Status Quo back in 1980 in my hometown Münster, playing the Halle Münsterland. This was the first real rock show I attended and was blown away when Rick entered the stage left and hammered out the intro riff of “Caroline”, like a steam hammer bang, then I was suddenly addicted). Standing in the front row directly looking into Rick's face, watching, and enjoying every single minute of the show. I was 15 years old and eager to play guitar and sing. This concert fired my dreams of becoming a rock musician and from there, my destiny was sealed. Buying all Quo albums from there and playing all their songs in my first band made me learn and understand melody and rhythm.to play as tight as possible and write catchy melodies.
MiM: “Rockers Rollin' (A Tribute To Rick Parfitt)” (Massacre Records, 2023) is an album with a powerful sound, with melodious and rhythmic guitar riffs. Who was in charge of the production? What was the recording and production process like?
MV: I produced the album on my own. For me it was very important to capture the spirit of Rick´s songs and revive them and transport them into 2023...not much overproduction. One guitar left the other on the right side...and then, let´s rock. Only real instruments, no computers, it must have been handmade.
MiM: Approximately a month ago, some photos of him with Axl Roses at the Metrópolis studios in London, United Kingdom and together with guitarists Michael Schenker and Slash at Studios 301 in Frankfurt, Germany were published in different media. Any collaboration with these talented musicians?
MV: Well, you never know. It is also fresh information and I cannot tell anything about it in detail. Yes, we met there and recorded some music. That´s all I can say right now in this moment.
MiM: What plans do you have to promote these two re-releases?
MV: I will focus now on the Parfitt tribute album, where we going to face the second video release soon, called “Don´t drive my car”, with the help of my friends Herman Rarebell, Andy Susemihl, Uwe Köhler, and Axel Urban; we going to take the chance and want to play out there in 2024 as well. Let´s see where this road may lead to. I really enjoyed the making of this album and want to thank all the participating musicians who made this dream come true.
