"Sólo queríamos ser feos, inquietantes y rápidos"
La banda de Death Metal Kadaverficker, celebrando su trigésimo aniversario, lanzará su nuevo álbum 'Superkiller (A Musical Journey Between Life and Death)', como indica, un viaje musical entre la vida y la muerte. Este álbum estará disponible el 29 de septiembre a través de Massacre Records. Inmejorable oportunidad para que Made in Metal converse con Goreminister, su bajista, para saber todo sobre este álbum.
MiM: Treinta Aniversario es una gira impresionante. ¿Cómo recuerdas esos inicios? ¿Cómo surgió la idea de formar la banda?
KF: Bueno, los comienzos fueron duros en la habitación de mis hijos en casa de mis padres. Acababa de escuchar discos de Anal Cunt y pensé “Oh, bueno, eso es fácil, yo también puedo hacer algo como esto”. Así que empezamos la banda como una banda de Grind/Noisecore y sólo queríamos molestar a todos. Formamos la banda con la intención de que la gente no soporte nuestra música. Sólo queríamos ser feos, inquietantes y rápidos. Bueno, eso definitivamente cambió mucho a lo largo de los años. Cuando grabamos nuestros primeros 7 pulgadas, ya sabíamos que no queríamos limitar nuestra música a ningún género, sino mezclar todos los estilos. Y así seguimos trabajando hasta hoy…
MiM: “Superkiller (A Musical Journey Between Life and Death)” (Massacre Records, 2023) es exactamente eso, un viaje a través de la oscuridad que nos acecha constantemente. ¡¡Excelente sonido!! Todo un viaje musical también: Death Metal con una fuerte influencia de la escena Kraufrock y Horror Rock. ¿Es tan? ¿Cómo lo ves? ¿Qué puedes contarme sobre este álbum?
KF: Es absolutamente cierto. Escribimos ese álbum con la intención de mezclar Darkwave, Rock, Death y Black Metal… de alguna manera. Es aburrido escribir el mismo álbum una y otra vez. No somos Cannibal Corpse. Entonces sí, es una especie de viaje, pero también refleja la música que escuchamos en privado. Verás, Major Maggotfeeder (guitarra) es un gran fan de The Cure, por ejemplo, y me encantan bandas como Joy Division o New Model Army. A Perverted Pete (bajo) le gusta más el Black Metal melódico y el Corporal (batería)… Bueno, siempre está dispuesto a cualquier tipo de nuevas experiencias musicales, pero definitivamente le gustan bandas como Wolfbrigade o Acid Bath. Es por eso por lo que también incluimos cinco versiones de canciones que nos gustan y estilos que nos gusta escuchar. Siempre digo: mantente abierto a cualquier tipo de música, tal vez influya en tu propio arte de alguna manera… O… simplemente disfrútala.
MiM: Kadaverficker es una banda de Death Metal que se desliga completamente de la forma tradicional de componer el género y se adentra en el mundo del Death Metal de una manera diferente, consiguiendo un sello único. Me gustaría saber si desde un principio ya tuvieron muy claro el sonido que tendría la banda.
KF: No, absolutamente no. Como dije, cuando empezamos, el Grind/Noisecore fue duro durante bastante tiempo. Luego comenzamos a mezclar vibraciones de Black Metal y las combinamos también con cosas de Doom y Sludge. Con cada disco le ponemos más capas musicales e intentamos sorprender a la gente. Nunca sabes realmente lo que obtienes cuando compras un disco de Kadaverficker. Tiene que ser nuestro estilo lo que llamamos Nekrokore, pero siempre queremos añadir algo nuevo a todo.
MiM: El trabajo de producción, mezcla y masterización es impecable. ¿En qué estudio de grabación se realizó la grabación del disco?
KF: Todo el álbum fue producido, mezclado y masterizado por Jörg Uken de Soundlodge. Es un estudio increíble y Jörg sabe exactamente qué hacer con nuestro sonido. Siempre nos da consejos y tiene muy buenas ideas para mejorar aún más las canciones. Ya es el tercer disco, grabamos en Soundlodge y esta vez Jörg hizo su mejor trabajo hasta ahora. Estamos todos muy contentos con el resultado. Y como tienes un apartamento en el estudio, simplemente duermes, comes y haces música. Siempre es tan maravilloso.
MiM: “Pale Shadows” es uno de los temas que más escucho por la variedad musical que nos ofrece, sonido de gaitas, sintetizadores y crudeza, todo bien mezclado. ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este tema?
KF: Es nuestra “canción final”, por así decirlo. Como en el álbum “Kaos Nekros Kosmos”, siempre intentamos agregar una canción que apague todo el álbum y lo ponga fin. Esta vez estuvimos felices de tener a Zagan de Black Messiah tocando algunos violines para nosotros en esta canción y, como saben, soy fan de New Model Army para mí, es algo realmente especial. Muchas gracias a él por hacer esta canción más completa. Los sintetizadores los añadió Jörg y tuvo varias ideas que realmente nos gustaron mucho. Es una especie de quinto miembro de la banda, cuando estamos en el Soundlodge. Y… Como puedes escuchar… En comparación con “Kaos Nekros Kosmos” ahora agregamos aún más capas…
MiM: A nivel musical, cuando se trata de construir música. ¿Cuáles son tus referentes?
KF: Como dije, a todos nos encanta todo tipo de música diferente. Pero al final la música siempre sale del corazón y del alma. Claro, estás influenciado por otras bandas, pero sobre todo la música fluye por tus venas. En Kadaverficker, Corporal y Major están escribiendo la mayoría de las canciones y simplemente armonizan. combinan perfectamente. Y luego trato de agregarle mi propia nota. Me encanta mezclar cualquier tipo de estilo vocal para hacerlo más interesante para los oyentes.
MiM: Sois una banda con varios años de formación con discos y conciertos en su carrera. Mirando hacia atrás, ¿cómo calificarías el trabajo de la banda todos estos años?
KF: Definitivamente cambiamos mucho a lo largo de los años y cuando alguien me hubiera dicho en el pasado que tocaría en grandes escenarios y lanzaría tantos discos, no le creería. Pero me gusta cómo han ido las cosas hasta ahora, así que veamos qué aventuras nos esperan a continuación… No valoro nada en la banda, solo disfruto el camino mientras sigamos caminando…
MiM: Normalmente, cuando sacas un nuevo disco, lo normal es girar. ¿Qué planes tenéis para promocionar este disco?
KF: Massacre Records está haciendo un muy buen trabajo para promocionarlo hasta ahora. Y… Estaremos de gira desde el 29.09.2023 hasta el 08.10.2023 y durante la gira definitivamente promocionaremos el disco y tocaremos nuevas canciones, combinadas con material antiguo. Al público le espera un viaje en directo a través de 20 años de Kadaverficker. Después de la gira seguramente habrá un diario de la gira y podría suceder que también siga un bonito documental de estudio a finales de este año, así que mantente siempre alerta...
MiM: Finalmente, quería que te sintieras libre de compartir algunas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores.
KF: Gracias Raúl por la oportunidad de hablar contigo para tu revista. The Death Metal band Kadaverficker, celebrating their thirtieth anniversary, will release their new album 'Superkiller (A Musical Journey between Life and Death)', as indicated, a musical journey between life and death. MiM: Thirtieth Anniversary is an impressive travel. How do you remember those beginnings? How did the idea of forming the band come about?
KF: Well, the beginnings were tough in my children’s room in my parents’ house. I just listened to records of Anal Cunt and thought “Oh, well that´s easy, I can do something like this too“. So we started the band as Grind/Noisecore band and just wanted to disturb everyone. We formed the band with the intention, that people could not stand our music. We just wanted to be ugly, disturbing, and fast. Well, that definitely changed a lot throughout the years. When we recorded our first 7 inches, we already knew that we didn´t want to limit our music to any genre but mix every style into it. And that´s how we still work today…
MiM: “Superkiller (A Musical Journey Between Life and Death)” (Massacre Records, 2023) is exactly that, a journey through the darkness that constantly stalks us. Excellent sound!! Quite a musical journey too: Death Metal with a strong influence from the Kraufrock and Horror Rock scene. Is it so? How do you see it? What can you tell me about this album?
KF: It´s absolutely true. We wrote that album with the intention to mix Darkwave, Rock, Death and Black Metal… Somehow. It´s boring to write the same album over and over again. We´re not Cannibal Corpse. So yes, it´s kind of a journey, but it also reflects the music we´re listening to in private. You see, Major Maggotfeeder (Guitar) is a huge The Cure fan for example and I love bands like Joy Division or New Model Army. Perverted Pete (Bass) is more into melodic Black Metal and the Corporal (Drums)…Well, he´s always up for any kind of new musical experience, but he definitely digs bands like Wolfbrigade or Acid Bath. That´s why we also included five cover versions of songs we like and styles we like to listen to. I always say: Be open to any kind of music, maybe it influences your own art somehow… Or…You just enjoy it.
MiM: Kadaverficker is a Death Metal band that is completely separated from the traditional way of composing the genre and enters the world of Death Metal in a different way, achieving a unique label. I would like to know if from the beginning they were already very clear about the sound that the band would have.
KF: No, absolutely not. As I said, when we started it was harsh Grind/Noisecore for quite a while. Then we started to mix in Black Metal vibes and combined it with Doom and Sludge stuff. With every record, we put more musical layers on top and try to surprise the people. You never really know what you get when you buy a Kadaverficker record. It has to be the style we call Nekrokore, but we always want to add something new to everything.
MiM: The production, mixing, and mastering work is impeccable. In which recording studio did the recording of the album take place?
KF: The whole album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Jörg Uken from Soundlodge. It´s an amazing studio and Jörg exactly knows what to do with our sound. He always gives us advice and has very good ideas to make the songs even better. It´s already the third record, we have recorded at Soundlodge, and this time Jörg did his best job so far. We are all very happy with the result. And since you have an apartment in the studio you just sleep, eat, and make music. It´s always so wonderful.
MiM: "Pale Shadows" is one of the songs I listen to the most because of the range of music it offers us, the sound of bagpipes, synthesizers, and rawness, everything is well mixed. What can you tell me about this topic?
KF: It´s our “outro song” so to say. Like on the album “Kaos Nekros Kosmos” we always try to add a song that fades out the whole album and brings it to an end. This time we were happy to have Zagan of Black Messiah playing some violins for us on this track and since you know I am New Model Army fan for me it´s something really special. Many thanks to him for making this song more complete. The synths were added by Jörg and he had several ideas, we really really liked. He´s kind of the 5th band member when we´re at the Soundlodge. And… As you can hear… In comparison with “Kaos Nekros Kosmos” we added even more layers now…
MiM: On a musical level, when it comes to building music. What are your references?
KF: As I stated, we all love all kinds of different music. But in the end, music always comes from the heart and soul. Sure, you are influenced by other bands, but mostly the music flows out of your veins. In Kadaverficker, Corporal and Major are writing most of the songs and they just harmonize perfectly together. And then I try to add my own note to it. I love to mix up any kind of vocal style to make it more interesting for the listeners.
MiM: You are a band with several years of training with records and concerts in their career. Looking back, how would you rate the work of the band all these years?
KF: We definitely changed a lot throughout the years and when someone would have told me in the past, that I would play on big stages and release so many records, I wouldn´t believe him. But, I like how things are going so far, so let´s see what adventures await us next…I don´t rate anything in the band, I just enjoy the way as long as we keep on walking…
MiM: Normally when you put out a new record, the normal thing to do afterward is to spin it. What plans do you have to promote this record?
KF: Massacre Records are doing a very good job to promote it so far. And… We´ll be on tour from 29.09.2023 until 08.10.2023 and on tour we definitely promote the record and play new songs, combined with old stuff. A live journey through 20 years of Kadaverficker awaits the audience. After the tour there will be a tour diary for sure and it could happen, that also a nice studio documentary follows later this year, so always stay alert…
