Hola chicos ¿por dónde andáis ahora mismo?

Hola Juan, soy  Si, he sido miembro de Anihilated desde 1982.

Estamos en Inglaterra, vivimos en un pequeño pueblo Ipswich,mas conocido por su equipo de fútbol que estuvo entre los mejores de Europa en los años setenta y principios de los 80

Vuestro disco más reciente “Anti Social Engineering”. Suena poderoso os felicito. ¿Cómo ha sido la respuesta hacia el mismo?

Gracias, nos alegra que te guste el disco.

Hemos tenido reseñas muy positivas sobre el disco. Parece que a todo el mundo le gusta, estamos muy felices con esto.

El disco suena bien ¿Con quién lo grabaron?

Fue grabado en los HVR Studios  propiedad de Danny B quien también trabaja en el. Danny también produjo el álbum, y ha trabajado antes con, Criminal, Pentagram Chile, Lock Up, Eastern Front, Trespass y muchos otros.

¿Cómo fue es el proceso de concepción del álbum?

Nos tomó aproximadamente 12 meses escribir las canciones. Danny escribió la mayor parte de los riffs y el resto lo ayudamos en los arreglos de algunas canciones. Todd tocó la mayoría de los solos del disco. Yo tenía las letras escritas antes de hacer la música y solo fue necesario trabajar en ellas para que se ajustaran a los riffs y al ritmo. Fue un proceso muy suave.

¿Cuáles son las principales temáticas de vuestras letras?

Somos muy conscientes de que el mundo marcha hacia el desastre y que la gente que nos gobierna están más interesados en hacer dinero que mantener la Tierra de manera que podamos vivir en ella. Vemos como la libertad que teníamos se va suavemente erosionando por los gobiernos, espiándonos y manipulando los medios para decirnos lo que quieren que escuchemos. Vemos como la justicia ha sido comprada y pagada para que los ricos sigan siendo más ricos y los pobres y hambrientos se mantengan como están. Adivino que pensaras que somos anarquistas o algo así, nos gusta la libertad de expresión y pensamiento. No nos gusta que nos controlen.

¿De dónde vino la idea de  “Anti Social Engineering”?

“Anti Social Engineering” era la frase perfecta con la que sentimos que estamos siendo moldeados por el estado para no asociarnos,  quedarnos en casa y someternos a sus reglas, para no hablar del monitoreo de nuestras comunicaciones, como guerreros del teclados del ordenador. Al final de la pantalla siempre tenemos que tragarnos la propaganda de las clases dominantes para mantenernos sedados con la mierda de televisión que nos dan. Para nosotros esto es modificar a la gente (“Engineering People”) en personas anti sociales. Los humanos somos seres sociales, y nuestra fuerza proviene de nuestra habilidad para unirnos contra un enemigo común, y ahora mismo el enemigo común es el estado que controla nuestras vidas.

Desde hace unos años estamos viviendo un revival del thrash, bandas jóvenes que se apuntan al sonido old school del thrash. ¿Como veis este revival?

Es un movimiento muy positivo, estoy viendo algunas bandas jóvenes que son técnicamente excelentes y mantienen la energía de la vieja escuela. También algunas de las viejas bandas están renaciendo y regresando, bandas como Anihilated, Exumer, Artillery, Acid Reign, Xentrix, Onslaught etc., quienes están abriendo el camino para nuevas bandas lo cual solo puede ser positivo.

¿Qué tal les fue en el Bloodstock Festival?

Tuvimos un pequeño espacio y estábamos preparados para ver un lugar medio vacío, pero la gente que estaba parece que disfrutó de verdad. Obtuvimos unas buenas reseñas y de manera general fue una buena experiencia. El equipo que nos apoyó fue súper amistoso y fuimos muy bien tratados. Fue maravilloso llegar a una vez más a algunos fans.

¿Cuáles son vuestros planes para 2016?

Tenemos pensado estar en algunos festivales en primavera y verano, y una extensa gira de invierno de la cual no podemos dar muchos detalles pero que va a ser una extravagante unión entre bandas británicas de old school y new school. Encima de eso, como se cumplirán 30 años de nuestro primer lanzamiento discográfico, vamos a regrabar nuestro primer Ep de 12” “Path To Destruction” y lo lanzaremos en vinilo  como edición limitada.

¿Habéis tocado alguna vez por estas tierras?

No, Euskal Assault será nuestra primera visita a vuestro país.

¿Qué podemos esperar de Anihilated los que vayamos al Euskal Assault Fest?

¡Vamos a llevar el ruido! Esperen un concierto lleno de energía y pasión, furia y poder. Nos apetece que los fans nos vean, somos uno junto a ustedes, no somos ni rock stars ni gente rica, somos la clase trabajadora, bebedores de cerveza y salidos del infierno, (“Beer drinkers and Hell raisers” es la expresión que utiliza, refiriéndose quizás a la canción del mismo título de ZZ Top)

¿Qué le decís a los fans que aún no se han animado a asistir al Euskal Assault Fest?

Los grupos que tocaran son maravillosos, el lugar es bueno. Apoyen vuestra escena o la escena se debilitará y morirá. Muevan el culo y también sus jodidas cabezas.

Hello guys, where are you now?

Hi Juan, this is  Si, I have been a member of Anihilated since 1982.

We are in England , we all live in or around a town called Ipswich, most famous for it's football team who were amongst the best in Europe in the 1970's and early 1980's.

Your most recent album is “Anti Social Engineering”. It sounds powerful, congratulation! How’s it going in terms of audience response?

Thank you, I am happy that you like the album!
We have had amazing positive reviews for the album. Everyone seems to like it, we are very happy with it ourselves.

The CD sounds really good. Where was recorder and who produce it?

It was recorded at HVR Studios  which is owned and operate by our guitarist  Danny B. Danny also produced the album, his other work includes, Criminal, Pentagram Chile, Lock Up, Eastern Front, Trespass and many more.

How was the writing process? It took a lot of time?

It took approximately 12 months to write the album. Danny wrote the majority of riffs and we all helped with arrangement on certain songs. Todd plays the majority of solos on the albums. I had the lyrics written before we did the music so it was a case of manipulating them to fit the riffs. It was a very smooth process.

What is the main subject of your lyrics?

We are very conscious that that the world is heading into disaster and that the people who lead us are more concerned with making money than keeping the earth fit for us to live on. We see the freedom and liberty that we have struggled to get being slowly eroded by the government spying on us and manipulating the media to tell us what they want us to hear. We see justice being bought and paid for so that the rich stay rich and the poor and starving are kept that way. I guess you could say we are anarchists of a sort where it comes to freedom of speech and thought. We don't like being controlled.

What the idea of “Anti Social Engineering” comes from?

Anti Social Engineering was the perfect phrase we felt for the way we are being moulded by the state to not congregate, to stay in our homes and submit to their rule, to not really meet where they cannot monitor our communication, to be keyboard warriors, at the end of a screen being force fed the propaganda of the ruling classes to keep us sedated with their bullshit television shows. For us that is engineering people into an anti social creature, humans are a social animal our power comes from our ability to join together against a common enemy and right now that enemy is the state that controls our lives.

In the last few years we are involved in a thrash revival. Young thrash bands playing old school thrash. How do you see that revival?

It is  a very positive move, I am seeing some great young bands who are technically excellent as well as having that old school energy. Also some of the older bands reviving and returning, bands such as Anihilated, Exumer, Artillery, Acid Reign, Xentrix, Onslaught etc. are laying the road for newer bands which can only be a good thing.

What kind of bands or records are you listening right now?

I have a broad range of musical taste. My current most listened to bands are Jethro Tull, Slayer (hell awaits , south of heaven era), Tryptikon, Criminal and Onslaught. I generally enjoy most forms of real music from traditional Japanese to punk. I struggle with “pop” I cannot find enough evidence of passion it and music without passion is dead.

How was the experience during the Bloodstock Festival?

We had an early slot and were prepared for a half empty tent but it was packed and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the set. We had some great reviews and all round it was a great experience. The staff are super friendly and we were treated very well. It was great to reach out to some many fans at once.

What are your plans for 2016?

We have some festivals lined up over spring and summer and a big winter tour which we can't give too many details about other than it is going to be an old school meets new school UK Thrash extravaganza!! On top of that, as it is 30 years since we first released it, we are re-recording our very first 12” ep “Path To Destruction and releasing it on Vinyl  as a ltd edition.

Have you ever played in Spain?

No, Euskal Assault is our first trip to your country.

What can we expect from Anihilated when we’ll come to Euskal Assault Fest?

We like to bring the noise!! expect a set with energy, passion , anger and power. We feel like the fans watching us, we are one with you guys we aren't rock stars or rich men, we are working class beer drinkers and Hell raisers!!

What would you like to ask to the fans who hesitate to go to the  Euskal Assault Fest?

The line up is amazing, the venue is solid, support your scene or the scene could wither and die. Get your asses down the front and bang your fucking heads!!!

Is there something you would like to include in this interview?

Many thanks for the questions and the opportunity to speak to the maniacs of Spain. We can't wait to get there and kick some!! We hope to be bringing some cd's and t shirts with us. Please enjoy the show.
