Cuando buscas a Lexi Rose en FaceBook, en la lista aparecen muchas mujeres, pero nuestra Lexi Rose es una neoyorquina, cantante, compositora y guitarrista impresionante, que ha estado haciendo un trabajo bastante interesante tratando de abrir el mundo de la guitarra femenina a una mayor audiencia a través de su canal de YouTube. Influencer y Guitargilr, Made in Metal habla con ella para acercarse a su trabajo.

MiM: Hola Lexi! ¿Cómo estás? Bueno, cuéntame ¿cómo fueron tus inicios con la guitarra? ¿Qué te llamó la atención para que te decidieras por este instrumento?

LR: Hola Raúl! Es un honor estar charlando contigo, ¡me ha ido bastante bien! Mis comienzos con la guitarra fueron sencillos: Empecé a tocar hace unos tres años. Mi tía le había prestado a mi hermano su guitarra acústica porque inicialmente estaba interesado en tocar. Definitivamente me había llamado la atención, y me encontré robándoselo para poder practicar. Eventualmente, decidí dejar de ser un fastidio y comprar mi propia guitarra eléctrica. Ver a guitarristas como Slash, Kirk Hammett y Marty Friedman me dejaron asombrada y supe que ese era el camino que quería seguir con mi propia forma de tocar.

MiM: ¿Cuéntame cómo empezaste a perfeccionarte en la guitarra?

LR: Después de unos seis meses de tocar la guitarra, quería comenzar a compartir mi progreso en las redes sociales. Pensé que sería una forma divertida de conocer a otros músicos y hacer un seguimiento de mi propio progreso. Así que comencé a sacar algunas versiones malas de canciones, con el tiempo, cuando comencé a tener seguidores inesperadamente, quise comenzar a mejorar mi técnica y la precisión de mis versiones tanto como pudiera. Desarrollé una extensa rutina de práctica para ayudarme a mejorar rápidamente y usar mi tiempo de manera efectiva.

MiM: ¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias a la hora de tocar?

LR: Algunas de mis principales influencias para tocar son Gary Moore, me enamoré de su estilo y la forma en que podía expresar emociones con cada nota que tocaba. Marty Friedman, estaba totalmente cautivada cuando lo veía tocar, definitivamente ha sido una gran inspiración para mí y para mi propia escritura. Kirk Hammett, Slash, John Petrucci y Dimebag Darrel son otros fantásticos guitarristas que me inspiraron. 

MiM: Mencionaré a cuatro guitarristas y me dirás brevemente qué piensas de ellos: Gus G, Joe Satriani, Rudolf Schenker y Nita Strauss.

LR: En realidad no sé mucho sobre Gus G, pero sé lo que haré esta noche, ¡jaja! De hecho, el padre de mi novio me presentó a Joe Satriani, me quedé completamente impresionado por su habilidad, particularmente por "Surfing with the Alien" y "Satch Boogie". Rudolf es un guitarrista absolutamente increíble, ¡me encanta aprender sus partes de guitarra! Nita Strauss ha sido una inspiración para mí; ella es una gran jugadora y es un ejemplo para todas las aspirantes a guitarristas.

MiM: En tu carrera, has tocado en el estudio con varias guitarras. ¿Cuáles son esas guitarras que guardas por los recuerdos que te traen? 

LR: Una de mis guitarras más memorables es mi PRS S2, fue la primera guitarra que me regalaron mis padres y realmente significó mucho. Todavía es una guitarra que tiendo a tocar más. Otro favorito es mi ESP FRX CTM, fue la guitarra de mis sueños durante mucho tiempo y estaba completamente loco de poder tener una. Mi guitarra actual es mi Dean Razorback Rust, ¡esa guitarra está hecha para el “shredding” y es una bestia absoluta para tocar!

MiM: Seguro que muchos lectores se preguntarán qué guitarra usas, pedales y monitores. ¿Cuáles crees que son adecuados para tocar rock?

LR: Esa es una gran pregunta. He usado muchas guitarras diferentes, hasta ahora mis tres favoritas son las guitarras PRS, las guitarras Dean y las guitarras ESP. También uso varios pedales diversos, realmente no puedo identificar una marca en particular, pero algunos que uso y amo son MXR, TC Electronics, Beetronics e ISP Technologies.

MiM: ¿Cómo te ha afectado la pandemia y el confinamiento en estos dos últimos años?

LR: En los últimos dos años la pandemia ha tenido un impacto positivo en mi carrera musical. Estar en casa me dio la oportunidad de explorar mi creatividad, trabajar en mi propia música y desarrollar mis habilidades de producción. También me permitió aumentar mis seguidores en las redes sociales y concentrarme en mis habilidades con la guitarra.

MiM: ¿Cuándo podremos ver a Lexi Rose en un concierto en vivo? ¿Te aventurarás algún día?

LR: ¡Con suerte, podrás verme tocar en vivo pronto! ¡He estado trabajando vigorosamente en mi propia música y espero tocarla en vivo para ustedes en breve!

MiM: La guitarra instrumental ha estado tradicionalmente dominada por hombres. ¿Crees que esto está cambiando? 

LR: Creo que esto está cambiando. Cuando comencé en mis redes sociales, noté que no había muchas guitarristas en el nicho, pero esto ha cambiado drásticamente en algunos años. He estado viendo muchas guitarristas fantásticas, ¡es bastante inspirador!

MiM: ¿Cómo ves el trabajo en las redes sociales y qué tan difícil es mantener el ritmo de publicaciones para lograr tus metas y planes?

LR: Creo que las redes sociales son una herramienta fantástica para los músicos. Te da la habilidad de conectarse con personas en un nivel nunca antes visto, ¡y la mejor parte es que cualquiera puede hacerlo! Mantener las redes sociales puede ser difícil a veces, definitivamente requiere dedicación y constancia para mantener su crecimiento. A veces, esto puede incluso volverse frustrante, pero la clave es seguir adelante porque el resultado bien vale la pena. 

MiM: ¿Habrá un disco en el camino? Creo que sería interesante escuchar un disco de Lexi Rose.

LR: Me encantaría que escucharas un disco de Lexi Rose, ¡y lo escucharás pronto! Ha sido mi objetivo sacar algo de música original, así que ha sido un desafío aprender a cantar y producir para poder hacerlo realidad. ¡No puedo esperar a que escuches lo que tengo!

MiM: ¿Alguna vez has pensado en crear una banda o unirte a una? ¿Has recibido ofertas de trabajo en una banda?

LR: A lo largo de los años, he pensado en crear o unirme a una banda. Recibí bastantes ofertas para unirme a bandas, pero me di cuenta de que primero quería desarrollarme como solista. ¡Quién sabe lo que deparará el futuro!

MiM: ¿En qué proyecto estás inmerso ahora mismo?

También he estado en el proceso de producir y grabar música original. Mi nuevo esfuerzo es con Guitar Mastery Method, ¡trabajaré con su increíble comunidad de guitarristas!

When you look for Lexi Rose on FaceBook, a lot of women appear on the list, but our Lexi Rose is a New Yorker, singer, songwriter, and impressive guitar player, who has been doing quite interesting work trying to open the world of female guitar players to a bigger audience through her YouTube channel. Influencer and Guitargilr, Made in Metal talks with her to get closer to her work.

MiM: Hi Lexi! How are you? Well, tell me how were your beginnings on the guitar? What caught your attention so that you decided on this instrument?

LR: Hello Raul!! It’s an honor to be chatting with you, I have been doing quite well! My beginning on the guitar was simple; I had started playing about three years ago. My aunt had loaned my brother her acoustic guitar because he was initially interested in playing. It had definitely caught my eye, and I found myself stealing it from him so I could practice. Eventually, I decided to stop being a pain and buy my own electric guitar. Watching guitarists like Slash, Kirk Hammett, and Marty Friedman left me awestruck and I knew that was the route I wanted to go down with my own playing. 

MiM: Tell me how that you began to perfect yourself on the guitar?

LR: After about six months of playing the guitar, I wanted to start sharing my progress on social media. I thought it would be a fun way to meet other musicians and keep track of my own progress. So I started putting out some bad covers, over time as I started to unexpectedly build a following I really wanted to start improving my technique and accuracy of my covers as much as I could. I developed an extensive practice routine to help myself improve quickly and use my time effectively.  

MiM: What are your main influences when it comes to playing?

LR: A few of my main influences for playing are Gary Moore, I fell in love with his style and the way he could express emotion with every note he played. Marty Friedman, I was totally captivated when I’d watch him play, he’s definitely been a huge inspiration for me and my own writing. Kirk Hammett, Slash, John Petrucci, and Dimebag Darrel are a few more fantastic players who inspired me. 

MiM: I will mention four guitarists and you will briefly tell me what you think of them: Gus G, Joe Satriani, Rudolf Schenker, and Nita Strauss.

LR: I actually don’t know much about Gus G, but I know what I will be doing tonight haha! I was actually introduced to Joe Satriani by my boyfriend’s dad, I was completely blown away by his skill, particularly by “Surfing with the Alien” and “Satch Boogie”. Rudolf is an absolutely killer guitarist, I love learning his guitar parts! Nita Strauss has been an inspiration for me; she is such a great player and is an example for all aspiring female guitarists. 

MiM: In your career, you have played in the studio with several guitars. What are those guitars that you keep for the memories they bring you? What are the guitars that you collect as goddesses? 

LR: One of my most memorable guitars is my PRS S2, it was the first guitar my parents gave to me and it really meant a lot. It’s still a guitar that I tend to play the most. Another favorite is my ESP FRX CTM, it was my dream guitar for the longest time and I was completely over the moon to be able to own one. My current go-to guitar is my Dean Razorback Rust, that guitar is made to shred and she is an absolute beast to play!   

MiM: Many readers will surely wonder what guitar you use, pedals and monitors. Which do you think are suitable for playing rock?

LR: That’s a great question. I’ve used many different guitars, so far my top three favorites are PRS Guitars, Dean Guitars, and ESP Guitars. I also use various miscellaneous pedals, I can’t really pinpoint it to a singular brand but some that I use and love are MXR, TC Electronics, Beetronics, and ISP Technologies. 

MiM: How has the pandemic and confinement affected you in these last two years? 

LR:Over the past two years, the pandemic has actually positively impacted my music career. Being at home gave me the opportunity to explore my creativity, work on my own music, and develop my producing skills. It also allowed me to build up my social media following and focus on my guitar skills. 

MiM: When can we see Lexi Rose in a live concert? Will you venture one day?

LR: Hopefully, you’ll be able to see me play live soon! I have been working vigorously on my own music and am hoping to play it live for you shortly! 

MiM: Instrumental guitar has traditionally been dominated by men. Do you think this is changing?

LR: I do think that this is changing. When I first started my social media platforms, I noticed that there weren’t many female players in the niche, but this has changed drastically over a few years. I have been seeing many fantastic female players, it is quite inspiring!   

MiM: How do you see the work in social networks and how difficult is it to maintain the rhythm of publications to achieve your goals and plans?

LR: I think social media is a fantastic tool for musicians. It gives you the ability to connect with people on a level never seen before, and the best part is that anyone can do it! Maintaining social media can be difficult at times, it definitely requires dedication and consistency to maintain your growth. At times this can even become frustrating but the key is to stick with it because the outcome is well worth it! 

MiM: Do we have a record on the way? I think it would be interesting to hear a Lexi Rose record.

LR: I would love for you to hear a Lexi Rose record, and you will hear one soon! It has been my goal to put out some original music so I made it a challenge to learn how to sing and produce so I can make it a reality. I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve got!

MiM: Have you ever thought about creating a band or joining one? Have you received job offers in a band?

LR: Over the years of my music endeavors, I have thought about creating or joining a band. I have gotten quite a few offers to join bands but I realized that I wanted to build myself up as a solo artist first. But who knows what the future will hold.  

MiM: What project are you immersed in right now? 

LR: I have quite a few projects that I have been immersed in at the moment. I’ve been working on some exciting collaborations with Ernie Ball, Taylor guitars, and a few others. I’ve also been in the process of producing and recording original music. My newest endeavor is with Guitar Mastery Method, I will be working with their awesome community of guitarists!
