La banda australiana de Heavy/Power Metal Night Legion lanzará su nuevo álbum 'Fight Or Fall' el 30 de junio a través de Massacre Records. Excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de conversar con el cantante Louie Gorgievski

MiM: ¿Cuéntame sobre los inicios de la banda? ¿Cómo surge la idea de formar la banda? Los músicos que forman parte de la formación de la banda ¿están por primera vez en una banda o han formado parte de otras bandas?

NL: Hola Raúl, un verdadero placer y gracias por tomarte el tiempo y el interés en la banda.

La idea para la formación de Night Legion fue concebida por Stu Marshall durante un período de pausa de su banda estadounidense Death Dealer, los músicos involucrados en ese momento eran amigos de Stu desde hace mucho tiempo y miembros de varias bandas australianas como Darker Half (cantante: Vo Simpson) y Blasted to Static (Batería: Clay. T).

Stu quería crear una banda australiana en la línea del power metal estadounidense, todos los músicos estaban disponibles y escribieron y grabaron el debut que fue bien recibido internacionalmente y en Australia.

De hecho, tuve la oportunidad de subir al escenario con ellos en 2019 mientras estaban de gira por Australia con Ross the Boss e hicieron un dueto con Vo Simpson, en una extraña ironía, parece que terminé siendo el cantante de la banda unos años más tarde. MiM: 'Fight Or Fall' (Massacre Records, 2023) es un álbum que suena increíble!! Power Metal 100% Heavy Metal rápido, veloz, con riffs cortantes pero melódicos, solos de guitarra épicos y voces que nos hablan y gritan desde lugares fríos y oscuros. ¿Qué me puedes decir de este disco? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción?

NL: Gracias, has resumido perfectamente y no puedo estar en desacuerdo, lo que se pretendía era brutal, épico, atmosférico y oscuro Power Metal en su estado más puro. Escribir y grabar "Fight or Fall" fue un verdadero trabajo de amor, mucha pasión y emoción entraron en este disco. Stu conjuró arreglos asombrosos y ofrece una fuerza imparable a lo largo del álbum. Sus riffs y pistas realmente dan en el blanco a la perfección y crea una zona atmosférica realmente genial para el oyente.

Realmente me ayudó a crear una imagen en mi mente y me permitió interpretar mi visión a lo largo del álbum lírica y vocalmente; cuando trabajas con un tipo como Stu, ya ha creado la obra maestra: simplemente agregué colores adicionales al lienzo; Habiendo dicho eso, puedo decir lo mismo de Clay, Glenn & Col, quienes ofrecieron una interpretación perfecta que elevó "Fight or Fall".

Vocalmente, he extendido y ampliado mis horizontes en "Fight or Fall" y he tratado de capturar todas las emociones posibles para asegurarme de que la historia se cuente de manera adecuada y creíble... Honestamente puedo decir que este álbum es mi mejor momento en mi opinión. El álbum fue mezclado y masterizado por Chris Themelco de Monolith Studio's en Melbourne, capturó un sonido balanceado de cada instrumento y le dio a Fight or Fall una hermosa característica de sonido que te atrae, te brinda una experiencia tridimensional en cierto modo al crear una película en la mente de los oyentes.

MiM: "The Hounds Of Baskerville" es una canción inspirada en la obra literaria, pero con un estilo más oscuro y aterrador. Es un tema que te atrapa y no te suelta hasta el final. ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este tema? ¿de qué se trata? ¿Cuál es el mensaje?

NL: Curiosamente, esa fue exactamente la visión de esta canción y la razón por la que es la primera pista de Fight or Fall y el primer sencillo lanzado: es uno que no se olvidará, gran coro, gran sonido y audaz.

Es una pista clásica inspirada en el terror ligeramente basada en Sherlock Homes "El sabueso de los Baskerville", sin embargo, con un giro mucho más oscuro y brutal y a nuestra manera. Se centra en un pequeño pueblo aterrorizado por los hombres lobo locales, con referencias descriptivas a lo largo de la canción. Dentro de la historia, algunas personas lo creen, otras no y piensan que es una leyenda que hemos inventado nosotros mismos hasta que ellos mismos enfrentan el terror y la ira.

Los lobos en este caso también nos representan a nosotros 5: estamos a punto de desatar un nuevo récord y tenemos hambre de desatar en el circuito en vivo. También está inspirado en cómo el propio estado de locura de la humanidad puede conjurar tanta maldad con el fin de aterrorizar, engañar y vivir siempre con miedo. La referencia al coro "Chase the hounds of Baskerville" realmente proviene de cómo nosotros, como humanos, estamos intrigados por aprender más sobre los misterios del mundo, nosotros mismos y básicamente cualquier cosa que nos asuste.

MiM: Louie Gorgievski en este disco se muestra en condiciones vocales excepcionales, logrando registros que me recuerdan al gran Michael Kiske. ¿Cómo se las arregla Louie para mantener su voz a ese nivel? ¿Cuál es el secreto? ¿Tienes formación académica o es empírica?

NL: Tomaré ese cumplido y correré jajaja, gracias compañero.

Salud y descanso es la clave para las condiciones vocales, si te disciplinas para cuidarlo manteniéndote saludable, activo, manteniendo los calentamientos y la técnica, siempre mantendrás tu voz en excelentes condiciones y obtendrás un gran resultado, en vivo o en el estudio. Entrené y enseñé profesionalmente durante varios años en Australia, pero su longevidad definitivamente proviene de mantener la salud, cantantes como Kiske & Dickinson han mantenido su rango debido a ese hecho.

MiM: ¿Podríamos definir el sonido de la banda o, por el contrario, son una banda inquieta a la que le gusta innovar y abrir nuevas propuestas?

NL: Bueno, nuestro único propósito es el metal en todo momento porque de eso somos fanáticos, creo que es lo más importante y lo que nos impulsa, todo se ha hecho antes y definitivamente no estamos aquí para reinventar la rueda. Dicho esto, en mi opinión, ser innovadores y no tener miedo de hacer algo diferente y atrevido es donde tendemos a estar sentados, aunque el debut está en la misma línea de power metal, hay elementos de la noche y el día entre ambos lanzamientos y no. porque hay dos cantantes diferentes. Fight or Fall trae ese borde oscuro que se enrolla alrededor de tu columna vertebral a veces, tiene partes lentas y también canaliza una dinámica diferente con frecuencia que te mantiene nervioso. También trae una carga de profundidad de coros enormes inesperadamente y ofrece un poder que solo puedo describir como aplastado por el ejército de Troya.

Australian Heavy/Power Metal band Night Legion will release their new album "Fight Or Fall" on June 30th on the prestigious Massacre Records label. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with the singer Louie Gorgievski

MiM: Tell me about the beginnings of the band. How did the idea of forming the band come about? Are the musicians that are part of the band's lineup for the first time in a band or have they been part of other bands?

NL: Hi Raul, a real pleasure & thank you for taking the time and interest in the band.

The idea for the formation of Night Legion was conceived by Stu Marshall during a hiatus period from his American band Death Dealer, the musicians involved at the time comprised Stu’s long-term friends and members of various Australian bands such as Darker Half ( singer: Vo Simpson) & Blasted to Static ( Drums: Clay. T ).

Stu wanted to create an Australian band in the vein of American power metal, all musicians were available & they wrote and recorded the debut which was received well internationally & in Australia. I actually had the opportunity to get up on stage with them in 2019 whilst they were touring Australia with Ross the Boss and performed a duet with Vo Simpson, in a strange irony it seems I ended up being the singer of the band a few years later given Vo Simpson had a commitment with his own band Darker Half and Stu happened to be writing for our band Arkenstone at the time; and it just made perfect sense.

MiM: Fight Or Fall (Massacre Records, 2023) is an amazing-sounding album!! Power Metal is 100% Fast, fast Heavy Metal, with cutting but melodic riffs, epic guitar solos, and voices that speak to us and shout from cold and dark places. What can you tell me about this record? How was the recording and production process?

NL: Thank you, you’ve summed up perfectly and I cannot disagree, brutal, epic, atmospheric, and dark Power Metal at its purest is what was intended. Writing & recording Fight or Fall was a real labor of love, a lot of passion & emotion went into this record. Stu conjured up amazing arrangements and he delivers an unstoppable force throughout the album. His riffage & leads really hit the mark perfectly and he creates a really cool atmospheric zone for the listener.

It really helped me create a picture in my mind and allowed me to interpret my vision throughout the album lyrically & vocally; when you work with a guy like Stu, he’s already created the masterpiece – I merely just added extra colors to the canvas; having said that, I equally can say the same with Clay, Glenn & Col who delivered perfection in performance that elevated "Fight or Fall".

Vocally, I’ve extended and broadened my horizons on fight or fall and have tried capturing every possible emotion to ensure the story is told adequately & believable…..I can honestly say this album is my finest moment in my opinion. The album was mixed and mastered by Chris Themelco of Monolith Studio’s in Melbourne, he captured a balanced sound of each instrument and he gave "Fight or Fall" a beautiful sound characteristic that draws you in, gives you a 3-dimensional experience in a way in creating a movie in the listeners mind.

MiM: "The Hounds Of Baskerville" is a song inspired by the literary work but with a darker, more terrifying style. It is a subject that catches you and does not let go until the end. What can you tell me about this topic? what's it about? Which is the message?

NL: Interestingly that was exactly the vision for this song and the reason why it’s the first track on Fight or Fall & first single released – it’s one that will not get forgotten, big chorus, big sound, and bold.

It’s a classic horror-inspired track slightly based around the Sherlock Homes “ The Hound of the Baskervilles “ however with a much more dark & brutal twist and in our own way. It centers around a small town being terrorized by the local werewolves, with descriptive references throughout the song. Within the story some people believe it, some people don’t and think it’s a legend we have devised ourselves until they themselves face the terror & wrath.

The wolves in this case also represent the 5 of us – we are about to unleash a new record and we have the hunger to unleash on the live circuit. It’s also inspired by how humanity’s own state of madness can conjure up such evil for the reason to terrorize, deceive, and always living in fear.

The reference to the chorus “ Chase the hounds of Baskerville “ really comes from how we as humans are intrigued to learn more about the mysteries of the world, ourselves, and basically anything that scares us.

MiM: Louie Gorgievski on this album shows himself in exceptional vocal conditions, achieving registers that remind me of the great Michael Kiske. How Louie manages to keep his voice at that level? What is the secret? Do you have academic training or is it empirical?

NL: I’ll take that compliment and run lol, thank you mate.

Health & Rest is the key to vocal conditioning, if you discipline yourself to look after it by keeping healthy, active, maintaining warm ups & technique you’ll always keep your voice in great condition & get great result, live or studio. I trained & taught professionally for a number of years in Australia but it’s longevity definitely comes from maintaining health, singers like Kiske & Dickinson have maintained their range because of that fact.

MiM: Could we define the sound of the band or, on the contrary, are they a restless band that likes to innovate and open new proposals?

NL: Well, our sole purpose is metal all the way because that’s what we are fans of, that I think is the most important thing and what drives us, everything has been done before and we definitely are not here to reinvent the wheel. Having said that being innovative and not being afraid to do something different and be daring is where we tend to be sitting in my opinion, although the debut is in the same vein of power metal there are elements of night and day between both releases and not because there are two different singers. Fight or Fall brings that dark edge that coils around your spine at times, it has slow parts and also channels a different dynamic frequently which keeps you on edge. It brings also a depth charge of huge choruses unexpectedly and delivers a power that I can only describe as being smashed by the Trojan army.
