Hi Dan, is a pleasure to interview you.

Bueno, la primera pregunta es que respuesta es tener nuevo álbum "The Northern Sanctuary"

Como fue el proceso de composición y grabación?

It was cool. It was spread out over a pretty long time and it was supposed to have started later, but I was so inspired that I made the whole thing earlier, just because I was so inspired...and that is always a good thing :) The recordings of most stuff was a breeze, but the vocals was really painful this time around. I max out my abilities and I seem to get less and less lung power the older I get, so giving a 100% each time takes its toll on my whole body, anbd not the least my head, that feels like it could explode only after a few lines!

Paul Kuhr have the letters that I write is a luxury that allows you to focus on the instruments. What can you tell us about that?

I love Paul's lyrics and it was our luck that he was interested in working with us on this project. He made a killer job with the 1st one and just as killer with this one. It's a privilege to work with such a talent!

What is the background of "The Northern Sanctuary"?

It's just a story I came up with one day, and we kind of made it work together with the stuff on the 1st album, with the song “The New Tomorrow” acting as a “bridge”

This new work is to some extent a logical evolution for Whiterscape, at least I see it. What do you think?

Absolutely. The first album was a bit trial & error, and now we know more what really worked for us and what kind of things we should expand on and stuff.

In these new songs besides your respective talents as instrumentalists, in a way these two musical aspects that have marked a bit about your career, ie the rocker melodic side at times almost AOR, progressive and death dark melodic metal are reflected. I really liked how they manage to mix all those influences and get so emotional songs.

Thanks. I am a big A.O.R. Fan and love when it gets really epic and grand! I wanted to use a bit more of that stuff on this album, and there are a couple of places that works really well in constant been fluffy/evil :)

Another thing that fascinates me are keyboards, very successful at all times. And what about Ragnar solos, brilliant. Do you have total freedom on guitars or also you contribute your ideas?

I am writing all the guitar parts for my songs, and the solos are usually something we work out together. Sometimes there are piece o the solos that have to be there, and then ragnar play them without protest, and then he just go bananas and jam on the stuff and cut out little pieces and move shit around, and present to him a “frankenstein solo” and then he learn it that way, and play it like he's never done anything else his whole life ;)

For the cover made by the Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák (Nightingale, Destruction, Tyr, etc.). You gave total freedom to create or tapeworms clear as I wanted it to be?

I gave him very detailed instructions on how everything should be, but then again, the whole landscape is his creation. I only explained it in a few words how I wanted it to be, and he took it from there and maybe it BIG!

I've always wondered how you find the time to write and record albums with many projects and produce as many other bands? I do not think you ever get bored.

Not really. I am lucky to work full time with my mixing and mastering business and whenever there is downtime there, like waiting for a band to give feedback on my work, I strum a bit on the guitar and come up with new riffs and stuff, then I record it on my phone and once I get another free minute, I go through the stuff and record little demos, an once have enough good piece that all words with full orchestration, I piece together songs and add the missing pieces.

If I asked you appoint five Swedish bands that you like, what would they be?

Always hard to name 5 of this and 5 of that on top of your head...but a few that jumps into my head at the moment are:

Work of Art
Europe
Opeth
ABBA
220 Volt

Well Dan not want to end if tell you that I admire so much as a musician and producer, in addition to charm me "Retribution" Nightingale, I can not even out of my head "On Stolen Wings".

Great! I like that track too!
